Well, how about looking at what causes exhumation of plutonic rocks rather than meteorite impacts? How about the subduction zone jumping, the effects of isostasy on eroding island arc terraces, upper mantle and mid mantle effects on crustal uplift etc etc? Possible underplatng causing more inboard thrusts?
