Not a single person in this video had a device
Who’s watching this in October 2024?
I don't get it. 🙂
What an incredible place LA is ,regardless of what people say. It’s still an incredible place.❤
I had that bear book.
This is the unfunniest person ive ever seen produce, and bear with me, its gonna be hard to type this "comics"
The Far Side is easily the funniest comics in the newspapers.
Very educational of a cool vintage capture of Los Angeles back in the 80's. Unfortunately, we are viewing this in 2024. So much has changed.
2014..?
Larson has influenced my sense if humor in ways that's impossible to explain. I was young when I started to read one of his books, and I didn't get much of it lol but by God, I never forgot it. It's strange to see him in the flesh.
The 1980s was peak Los Angeles aside from South Central
Way smoggy back then..lung burn
Wish I had moved to LA in 1961 instead of going to NYC. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
GOOD SHOW ! THURSDAY 8/15/24 AUGUST 15, 2024
O Charle cheen, tem uma casa em Malibu, e outra em Beverly hills,
I have so many favorites, but one that sticks with me is The Boneless Chicken Ranch. Another shows a drawing of two clouds, with a guy on one, and a bunch of music blaring from the other. The caption is "Life on Cloud 8"
Him being shy somehow fits perfectly.
18:28 Miami Vice opening theme
Whenever I go to a hardware store, I keep my eyes open - hopefully - for a spray can, and the focus of one of my favorite Larson panels: "Stop IT - An All Purpose Product".
I don’t know how he did it. Coming up with a cartoon everyday. Amazing.
Does anyone find this piece condescending or belittling? Peanuts music for the intro? Really??
Opening minute: There is positively, absolutely nothing offensive or controversial in Far Side panels. Why would anyone say that? Because his cartoons often (not always) require you to think. Some people (too much) find that "offensive". Family Circle makes them smile, and everything else is "offensive"? wtf
Her robotic voice really drives home the humor 🙄
I was in 6th grade and all the kids were passing around the "C'mon Fifi. Faster, Fifi, Faster!" cartoon.. and each kid laughing hysterically one by one. That's the day I got hooked.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen him!! He’s pretty much what I visualized him as.

Gary Larson is a lean, mean drawing machine. His cartoons from The Far Side book series never die.
Cyclops family at breakfast...a classic
The kid who is riding his horse too fast and crashes into a tree.
Was that a young German in Venice @51:06 ?!
Before the TENT-PEOPLE…before the $20 burrito…before Will Smith slapped the Oscar host. LA is not what it was.
He has a face! And a voice!
The funniest comic strip ever.
Daaaaamn Gary’s mom is a hottie holy moly!
?…
Surprisingly they didn't include Dodger Stadium, the Forum in Inglewood, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, LAX,and the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal.
I don’t know if I’d consider Gary Larson the greatest cartoonist of all time (he’s up there for sure), but THE FAR SIDE is undoubtedly the most timeless comic strip ever made.
How about greatest single-panel cartoonist?
24:51 "Downtown Hollywood"-- a term locals never use.
My favorite Far Side requires some explanation. When I was about 9 years old, I spent too much time inside. I was homeschooled, and my mom was paranoid at how unsafe our neighborhood was rapidly becoming. I started having nightmares about being trapped in the house (such as were common in 2020). One of the few places I did get to go was a fetid thrift store where it rained inside and all you could smell was B.O. And there, in that disgusting place that I still wish would collapse in the middle of the night, I saw the Far Side panel "Go back to sleep, Chuck. It was just a dream. We're still in hell though." How I laughed at that! 😅 (Oddly enough, that house wasn't generally hell. The next one was for years, but that's a different story. I never had another nightmare about being trapped in the house though.)
Cool
What's the year?
Looks like the footage is mostly from the mid/late 1980's.
I believe it's the early 90s. At approx. 23:20, the narrator states construction began on the rapid transit in the late 1980s.
1989
Hey Gary! Remember Tom Madson, your roommate at College? Unfortunately we have lost Tom.
he is BRILLIANT ! Gary come back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
genius
Can we please enjoy videos from the past without shoehorning in some corny “back in my day when life was simple”comment? That’s all I ask.
Thank you!
Right? I grew up and LA the bs that comes from these people is weird. There was problems back then too. 😂
I feel a deep nostalgia nuntheless and do miss the pros and before there were the cons of the present world
Genius
Don't this people that film documentaries know that lot's of us are afraid 😟 of height's
Back before the Democrats destroyed California and America.

Great upload
Tacoma has a swamp?
My grandpa likes his books.First time i seen him today. And wow he looks like him too Looooool.
The World would be a better place if there were more Gary Larson’s!
