It has mainly all living on one level with a bonus room upstairs, off of which is the large deck facing towards the view across the rolling countryside.

T-Shaped Quonset Huts? NOPE!
Просмотров 27 тыс.5 лет назад
The question has come up in our Facebook group: what about building a Quonset hut in a T-shape? Real world examples include Sarge's Surplus Hut within Cars Land at the Disneyland theme park; also RAL Kit Homes from Australia. So is it feasible with a standard Quonset building kit to construct one like this for yourself? This video explores this question and some of the issues related to trying ...

Is Topo zone map available in Alaska? Looking at the land there. Why did you pick the size of the Quonset? why not bigger or smaller?
I've never looked at TopoZone for Alaska but I don't know why they wouldn't cover that area. The biggest factor for you in Alaska will be the limitations of snow load there. How did we pick our size? It was just the right amount of building for us. It depends on what your goals are for the project. It's like how big of a car are you going to buy? It's just an individual choice with various factors going into it.
Have you ever considered using a bubble wrap style insulation? Im concerned that spray foam will deteriorate too quickly and then you’re stuck with it. I am seriously considering using a specific product known as Prodex…curious if anyone here has experience with both types?
Spray foam doesn't really deteriorate when you install it correctly and finish your interior correctly. Prodex has huge potential for condensation and therefore mold. They hype it like it's great for Quonsets but I would never use it.

Love this house layout. It's so spacious.
You can build the t-hut using a shorter qzhut for the stem of the T and have that hut protrude into the larger qzhut. The shorter hut retains full support end to end and should support the taller qzhut at the point where it rest on the shorter qzhut. There should be no problem with drainage as the ridges and valleys won't meet at the high point of the hut.. the tall hut should drain onto the shorter hut. And when building a t-hut ... build the shorter hut first then build the taller (top of the T) hut around the shorter hut... this is much easier as you can cut the arch pieces before installing.
Thank you for giving me some ideas on what specific items we need to think of
Great video! I think you want to put a thin adhesive rubber strip between the wooden ceiling members and the metal structure to help with sound deadening & reverberation.
After seeing how you installed windows in your sides, I will NOT cut windows into mine. You have successfully inserted a square peg into a round hole. Windows will only be in the ENDS. Just because it worked for you doesn't make it a good idea.
In the end we've decided we are never doing them again. I generally do my best to talk my clients out of using them. They add a lot to the cost of your build, and bring a lot of maintenance and potential for leaking with them.
Love the quonset concept brings back memories of when I was in the army. In South Korea.😊
My husband ga damn🤯
AI image. not a real building
derp
Nice render!
Surely the metal behind the blanket insulation will "sweat", and accumulate condensation?
I never understand the use of so much wood, in a steel structure? Finish the job properly, using metal.
Do you have any floor plans with 2 brdm 2 bath on ground floor. No loft or loft just for extra space. How many sqft. Cost?
This could easily become that with a little more length and second bath added downstairs.
Beautiful video and beautiful design. I thought it was very funny that the beds weren’t made.
I would be thinking about something at the Eves in the end walls that would reflect light back into the Structure ..... as not to Compromise the integrity
How do you connect the wood to the quonset structure on the inside so the attachment point doesnt leak?
It can be done with a coupling nut and threaded rod. The coupling nut gets attached to the bolt already in place keeping the panels together. Then the threaded rod gets attached to the bottom part of the coupling nut. You make a hole into the wood and slide the rod extension through then affix the wood to the threaded rod with another washer and nut.
@@Burntwaffle9699 makes sense. Thanks for the explanation
~ are U sure that U Build Quonset Hut homes...
I love it getting one
Man edit your thoughts before you produce this. This information is valuable but watching was painful.
I am new to ur channel liking it alot. Keep it up. Hopefully I will watch all of ur videos soon.
Can you build in Colorado?
I just saw a video on YT of one for sale. So, I guess it would depend upon the county. It was in Pine, CO.
@@lisaannwhite4080 Thank you, I’m going to search for that video.
I have to take issue with one thing you said. You said, when mentioning the RAL kit homes that they were not quonset huts because they had a wooden frame. I owned two quonset huts in Morro Bay, Ca in the 90's that were WWII vintage. They had interior steel framing and were clad with standard looking corrugated steel panels that were apparently prebent to the correct radius. The Quonset huts I see in production now are completely different and, as you say self supporting. I feel it is the actual shape that makes it a Quonset hut, because if we go by history, the new self supporting structures are not the same as the originals. I had also considered replacing the steel framing with bent lamination arches of my own fabrication because they were so rusty and wouldn't last much longer. I don't think replacing the steel framing and substituting with wood would have changed them from Quonset huts to some other thing either. I think the RAL kits can legitimately be called Quonset as well.
Another problem I see, though this may not be a huge issue in Arizona, is the flat roof of the window box. In Northern California, where I'm considering Quonset hut glazing solutions, there is considerable rainfall and I've learned from experience, a sloped plane simply weathers better and lasts longer than a flat level plane. I do really like the look of your windows however. Thanks for uploading.
same
What're the dimensions for this structure
What program did you use to make this? I like designing homes in my free time but the program I use is very basic
This was built in Rhino3D and rendered with Enscape.
What would this cost to build in New England?
Queremos saber o preço e metade deus abençoe
outstanding animation
Really nice. Where is your business located?
What you do is simple, you build the Groin Vault ceiling first to the required size, then you place the Quonset onto four the open sides of the Groin Vault, and you have a cross shaped Quonset hut, or just three huts and have the front door in the other open side of the groin vault.
How did you attach the lights to the hut
What is the cost of this model and design?
Hell, build it, spray foam the valley's and then shock cret it and smooth it out, paint it with with bed liner. That would be awesome!! Just a thought. Take care. Hawk out!!
Interresting.. i am taking another approach.. A hybrid quanset. A concrete hub or groin vault with arches designed to match and attach to the quanset. Maintaining all structural integrity.
If one is doing a quonset hut as forms to like the fellow did in this video, ruclips.net/video/AJgVIEC84zg/видео.htmlsi=J63OqQiF1b6Eruar , it could be done because the quonset hut is used as a form to put concrete over.
YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE A ROOF OR PAINT. 🎉
I want one of these homes..so bad.
Not eco-friendly. Uses a lot of wood. Aesthetically I don't like it. Looks sterile and impersonal. This looks like the living quarters of a cult or intentional community.
could you use a torch down product on the top and then design and build in miniature drains at the lowest point of each valley?
No bath in the Master Bath?
This is how the client I originally developed this for wanted it. There is a huge closet upstairs next to the bath that you could easily take space from and have a bathtub if you wanted one.
Price pls
Did you order the windows based off the size on the window schedule or were they smaller after putting in the bucks?
How are you managing moisture?
Don't tell them i told you this. But the t shape hut all ready was done when this system was invented. Dont forget about the underground base made up out of this stuff. It had t cross sections.
people use rebar and shotcrete on these structures
How much is the total cost
Amazing! Why the framing on the roof? Insulation I assume. Does spray foam not stick to the ceiling?
So you can attach a proper ceiling and cover up the foam.
@@CleverModerns oh yes, of course, thank you!
Very nice home, just curious about the shower, does it have a drain?
