So, is this a problem that could occur with a “straight-from-the-factory” Winchester? It seems that loosening of the springs is playing a role in short stroking and it sounded like you implied this would NOT be an issue with a gun that was not tuned for speed.

Talk about covering all the bases! Maybe I'm just slow! I have watched this video about three times and I still find information I missed. I short stroked my own rifle (AR savvy) and to tell you the truth it didn't take that much gun knowledge. After watching this I realized that the kit install is not rocket science. The fine tuning is! Long Hunter willing to take time to make this video and share their knowledge is valid reason to purchase their products. If you want the best tune job or a competition rifle Long Hunter would be your best bet!

Hello from the future. Appreciate this video. Best info I’ve found on these rifles. Just got a used Uberti and thanks to you I have been able to loosen the hammer spring and now my standard (not slicked up) rifle is a pleasure to cycle. I love this this thing. Thanks from OZ.

Your supposed to use .380 balls anyway! That's what Uberti says right off! And all of the Uberti's I have will not even shave a ring of lead with the .375 those just drop right in way to easily! .380 is what they supposed to use straight from the factory. But, I understand with boreing the cylinders chambers mouth and forcing cone so, that the ball will fill the lands and grooves tightly! So, that's a great thing to do! And want to do it also. But, Uberti recommends .380 right in the instructions! Not. .375!

For cowboy shooting what load would you recommend for the .36 1851?

On a different note, does this also apply to the 1866? i have some issues with light primer strikes and the rifle is stock, got it used but the previous owner didn't shoot it much...

CCI #10’s have been 100% reliable since I started seating them down hard with the hammer and a pressing tool. They’re the only thing in stock in my area, so I make them work.

Good and informative video but. You cannot claim that your procedure provides more consistency and accuracy - and - is the way they were meant to be loaded. Although your procedures may be an improvement in consistency and accuracy it is definitely not how these pistols were meant to be loaded. See the original Colt Army manual of arms. No wads and no grease or lube either. Although a good ideal to perhaps shoot more between cleanings lube and wads were not original procedure. They were also not incorporated into paper cartridges in the Civil War. Finally, I disagree with your caution on over-compressing black powder. It is not an issue. Pre formed BP charges for modern BP rifles are created under great pressure when mixed with a binder. They ignite fine and consistently. There is no BP powder manufacturer who cautions against over-compressing a charge in a cap and ball pistol.

Did I miss it? Or did you mention ball size in any of these calibers? Primarily the 44. If you said it my bad. And DUDES! Your web site needs some work. I STILL can't find the grease and dispenser on the site. Nor the vegie wads.

I heard that Birch provides the best charcoal. But by the time something becomes charcoal the tree it came from is a non issue. Unless you're making a you tube video an want to come off as an expert. BTW if you load under a full moon you'll have 15.3% more power.

As a brief footnote, check your caps prior to installing on nipples. Many of you might be surprised to find them entirely empty. It happens!!

CCI caps are inconsistent in size, they need better seating, they'd be fine if people understood not everything is made perfect, precise and consistent. Nipple size from gun to gun, regardless if its the same maker or model is also very inconsistent. Its very common to use different caps on different guns, even same maker/model. Most black powder shooters only have experience with a few revolvers and cannot understand the scope of these differences, this accounts for the millions of differing opinions and experiences. They are not precisely made and certainly not like modern firearms. Ive owned hundreds, currently 40+. Every gun has differences! I'm not a competitive shooter, I'm reenactor and also shoot live regularly on my own property. 35 years of shooting with goex has never been an issue. If you clear nipples between shooting you'll be fine, most shooters never clear, clean or maintain nipples properly, many nipples need work when new out of the box. A single piece of wax paper between wad and powder is better for good sealing and long term loading. Your lube process is completely unnecessary!! Its fascinating to see a precise procedure using imprecise materials. I'm glad to see the compression issue addressed, with different size wads and conicals and powder loads. Ultimately cap size is meaningless, know what your revolvers uses, the differences are great. Caps are designed to expand and grip, never pinch them, this creates an oblong cap, ignition and fragmentation are likely. Roll the cap with even pressure in the fingers, slide the cap on, and firmly press onto the nipple. Its also common to have differences in nipples on one gun, not just from gun to gun. Removing nipples, measuring and testing with caps to get all nipples matching is a good idea, it'll save aggravation. Safe Shooting!

The only time I’ve ever had a problem with CCI’s is when I didn’t have a cap seated all the way. I’ve gone through thousands as well.
