      Thanks for watching. Las Palmas is an interesting port and you can just get off the ship and just walk around. The beach and promenade are nice we have not stayed at that hotel yet.

    It's amazing how they dug out that canal all those years ago. I've heard that it's a very interesting experience going through it. Do you know if there are any ships that are too big to go through?

      It is fascinating journey and very interesting. Panamax ships go through the old locks and New Panamax can go through the new locks. So bigger cruise ships can now transit. There is a RUclips video from "Fraser at Sea" explaining the difference. ruclips.net/video/bgVvv1ZAUcs/видео.html

    Your video popped up just as I turned on my computer. Our first Queen Elizabeth cruise was in 2016. Tenerife looks like a really nice place and your shot of that rainbow was beautiful.

      Tenerife is a nice place to visit and we have stayed there many times in the winter. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is an interesting ports and you can just get off the ship and walk around.

      Norway is always the perfect place to cruise to. The the ports and places you can visit are amazing, and the sail into and out of the fjords are worth the journey.

      She was a small ship but we really enjoyed the cruise. Much preferred to today's floating apartment blocks. We were very lucky to cruise to so many ports then which are unavailable now.

      The North sea canal is a tight squeeze and the lock gates slide in and out. Amsterdam is another port you cannot sail into now.

      Thanks for watching, Funchal is a beautiful place to visit, I would love to stay there. But the airport Is notorious for its perilous winds. If the weather is too severe and the plane cannot land at Madeira Airport it often circles until it's safe to do so and some cases, the flights have to be canceled and redirected elsewhere.

    Sailed with the Canberra in 1969 as a 12 year old. From Southampton via Madeira to Freetown and back again via Gran Canaria. In the Bay of Biscay I experienced sea sickness for the first time in my life. I remember saying ‘I want to die’ to my parents, haha!

      I was the same on my first cruise, very seasick had to call the doctor for some magic injection then I was OK. Always take seasick tablets now.

    The last time I sailed into Dover was in 1976 and it was on a hovercraft! We didn't get a good view of the white cliffs, unfortunately.

      Braemar was a small ship but very nice. Fred Olsen sold the ship to Villa Vie Residences, who renamed her as Villa Vie Odyssey, refitting it into a residential cruise ship. But the ships world cruise has been delayed with rudders and gearbox problems, with passengers stranded in Belfast.

      Thanks for watching, Costa Classica was very much Italian design over practicality. Small marble swimming pool with a huge marble waterfall, marble floored restaurants which made for high noise level dining, open metal stairways and no balcony cabins.

    I would have loved to have tried Sagafjord during the period from about 1986 through to around 1994, when she was on top as one of the most luxurious ships in the world.

      We have been lucky to sail on some classic ships. We managed it in those days with a low season cruise and inside cabins on the lower decks, but we still had the experience of the ship the same as if we were in a suite.

      Bonaire is a nice place to visit. I had to add the music track as it was very windy and copyright music was being played in the bars we passed. Oceana was first the Ocean Princess for Princess Cruises. She was sold to Seajets in 2020 and renamed Queen of the Oceans but is still laid up in Greece.

    I really enjoyed this video. That was the year we had our first Cunard cruise on QE out of Sydney. We are sailing out of Sydney on her again this December. Sadly, it will probably be our last as Cunard are pulling out of the Australian market.

    My Uncle worked on the Canberra as an engineer, and family could visit on board for the day free, so when we all drove over to the south of France, we stopped at Cannes where the Canberra was docked and spent the day on it in 1979 x x x . My Uncle also went to the Falklands with it too in 1982. The last time I saw the Canberra was docked in Egypt around 1989 or 1990 or 1991 I think 🤔 when I was on the Vasco De Gama docked right beside it x x x I regret not trying to find out if my Uncle was in board at the time!

      Lisbon is a great city to visit and the sail along the River Tagus is spectacular especially at sunrise. The bridge when built was called the Salazar Bridge, after the Portuguese ruler Salazar. But after the Revolution in 1974 the bridge was renamed for April 25, the date of the revolution.

      Yes it went very quiet, felt like we where just drifting for a time. In a previous video - Cunard Queen Mary 2 Cruise 2011 Part 14 - you can see the large amounts of smoke as they powered up the turbines the night before we sailed from Quebec.

      She was beautiful classic ship. Sorry to see ships like her replaced by floating apartment blocks. It was also great to sail on her sister ship the Sagafjord. There is a series of videos on this channel of a Sagafjord Caribbean cruise in 1992.

    I visited Monaco as part of a tour way back in 1976. The harbour was smaller then, with a lot less boats. It is a beautiful place. It was nice to see it again.

      A Greek ferry company Seajets bought her and she is now named Queen of the Oceans. She’s been laid up in Greece since 2020 and is up for sale.

      The cruise was November/December1989. RCL where offering an included flights from the UK a night in a hotel in Miami, transfers and day room before the flight home it was a great deal.

    The last time I was on a P&O ship was in 1961 when my family emigrated to Western Australia! They've certainly changed a lot. The Saga ship looked nice. Sadly, they don't come here.

      Our first cruise was in 1980 on the original 1960 Oriana which sailed out of Australia between 1981 and 1986. From then on we were hooked on cruising.

    A lot of the ports of call on your videos look different to what I thought they'd be. Much better actually. I never been to the western Mediterranean so it's good to see it.

      Madeira and Tenerife in the Canary Islands are in the Atlantic off West Africa. So getting there can be a bit choppy on a winter cruise.

      Seabourn cruises is all-inclusive and has a smaller number of passengers.

      It was a great trip, we saw and did so much. It's amazing what you can do when younger. But we really needed the cruise after that.

    I often see ships in your videos that I've not heard of before, like the Albatros in this video. It's always interesting.

      The Albatross was a sister ship to the Fair Princess of P&O Australia, which cruised out of Australia from around 1997-2001. They were classic cruise ships built in the 1950s for the Cunard Line.

    I just sat down at my computer and this video popped up. Our Mediterranean cruise on Queen Victoria was the only one we've done outside of Australia and we loved it. Thanks for bringing back some lovely memories. Some great ports of call. I wish I was back on board right now!

      It was an amazing ride to the top. One time we where in Madeira we went back down to the town on a 2km ride on the "Carros de cestos" wicker toboggans down steep and winding roads shared with cars and pedestrians!! "Celebrity Century Cruise 1999 Part 5 Funchal Madeira"
