    Never mind the demise of Barlow! What about the demise of poor Father Callahan? I was kinda ok with how Barlow bowed out, even though I'd have preferred him to be located and staked at Eva Millers boarding house, as in the source material and the 2OO4 Mikael Solomon version, or in the Marsten House, as in the classic Tobe Hooper version. But in this movie Father Callahan's demise was over far too quickly for me(no Dark Tower for him!). I'd like to have seen Barlow force the fallen priest to drink of his own blood, as in the source material and Mikael Solomon version. In the source material, Callahan, tainted by the king vampires blood, is denied access to his own church, and blows town on a bus. In Hooper's version, Barlow just plucks Callahan's cross from his hand, and the camera cuts away. 🙂✌️

      I agree on all those points from the source material. Father Callahan was not given a proper send off. He’s part of the problem the 3 of us agreed on. That the back half of the movie sped things up too quickly. Thanks for supporting the channel! -Bob

    Im pretty sure in the excellent source material the Ben Mears character's dad dies and his mom has a kinda nervous breakdown and ships young Ben of to live with his aunt Cynthia in Jerusalem's Lot, Maine, where he remains till aged 11, when he moves away from the town.Maybe im mistaken but im pretty sure i have this partly right. I have no recollection of Ben's parents getting killed by any drunk driver. His wife, Miranda, is killed in an automobile accident, involving Ben's motorcycle and a van or truck, i think. This is also mentioned in the wonderful source material. Maybe someone will correct me if im wrong? 🤔

    This film felt like a highlights reel of a much longer film. It had lots of potential, it just needed more time. The lack of the Marsten house really hurt the story. Here’s hoping we will see Dauberman’s 3 hour cut.

    Barlow is not discovered in the Marsten house in the novel. Thats the Tobe Hooper version. He's actually discovered in the basement of Eva Millers boarding house in the source material and in the 2OO4 Mikael Solomon version. I would have preferred Dauberman to stick to kings excellent source material. I hope one day king's superb novel is filmed properly, as its never been done properly yet. 🙂✌️

    • @TheFandomOutpost
      @TheFandomOutpost 13 дней назад

      Thank you for the informative comment, and I (Mark) will be the first to admit that I haven’t reread Kings novel in probably 20 some years because I became such a hard-core nerd for the Hooper miniseries that I can guarantee I have blurred the lines if not shattered them all together about what’s from the source material what’s not from the source material. I love that novel has such a huge fan base and we’re all really stalwart in holding it so close to our hearts that we want it done so correctly. I truly feel that a miniseries is the only way it could do Kings novel Justice I mean like HBO miniseries in 12 parts something like that because the simplest of things like the knives at the bottom of the remove stairs, could’ve been a great scene for that new version, but even that was omitted, but I digress, thank you so much for your comment it is so appreciated here on our channel and more importantly thank you for actually watching and being able to jump on board with your thoughts.

      I saw it in the cinema recently and have to admit I was quite impressed! I loved John Benjamin Hickey's convincing portrayal of Father Callahan. William Sadler was also great in it as Parkins Gillespie. Matt Burke was very well played by Bill Camp, as was Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton and Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears. Pilou Asbaek made a decent Straker, but was perhaps abit too smooth and suave, and not chilling enough. Young Jordan Preston Carter was amazing it it as monster mash kid, Mark Petrie. I've heard Gary Dauberman's original cut was three hours and I'd really love to see this. The soundtrack by Elizabeth Scott and Nathan Barr was very good, I thought. Fitted the movie very well. The vampires looked good, particularly Mr Barlow, played well by Alexander Ward. All in all, a very good movie, I thought. Quite impressive!! 🙂✌️👌👌🙏🙏

    I saw this movie at the theatre back in 1978 or 79 when was first released and it's always held my interest. My copy of this box set arrived today and I expect this transfer (theatrical version) to look superior, that being said... Very disappointed that this package does not come with any book or inner case booklets whatsoever. The box and case inserts look good, but that's all you get as far as printed materials. There is only an additional seven minutes of movie run time with the extended cut. It is not remastered or cleaned up. Instead it looks low resolution, rather rough and scrappy and it does NOT have any subtitle options. The set is good for the collector, but for others you may want to wait for Imprint to release a standard, single disc theatrical version edition and save yourself some money that way.

    • @TheFandomOutpost
      @TheFandomOutpost 17 дней назад

      Bummer about the extended version not being transferred full res. Not sure there will be a better release (4K or otherwise) anytime soon but who knows. It’s definitely for those who are really big fans of the film. Maybe a more standard release will follow this. I saw it in the theater back in the day as well and it has always left an impression on me. -Bob

    • @TheFandomOutpost
      @TheFandomOutpost 13 дней назад

      Right, that always seems to be the problem with adding new Lore to movies that are 30 and 40 years old. Like I felt like none of the aliens would’ve waited. They would’ve just gone off that killer instinct that just pounced on the person might’ve stared at the other character through the window and tried to bang its head on the glass to break it, but the intelligence you’re showing in a movie that’s supposed to take place between two other already existing movies and then add more more to it can kind of diminish the impact of the originals. Thank you so much for your comments and for watching and listening. It is super appreciated here at the Fandom outpost.

    The Mark Petrie character is about 11 or 12 years-old in the book so Jordan Preston Carter is actually closer to the characters actual age in the new movie than lance Kerwin was when he played the role in Hooper's 79 original. Young Jordan was 12 years-old, i think, when he started work in Dauberman's Salem's Lot, wereas lance kerwin was in his late teens in Hooper's original version. But i love the late lance Kerwin's performance, and Dan Byrd also made a pretty good Mark Petrie in Mikael Solomon's 2OO4 adaptation. 🙂✌️

      OMG right!!! Like why in these modern times does Hollywood feel the need that they can’t stick to a source material and keep things the way they are? Why is there this great big need to please everybody else just to get your dollars to get somebody to watch your movie OK. Like your movie is designed for who it’s designed for if you have a problem you’re not making a dollar value then make something else Keep things the way at least should be as a source material. Mark and Ben being seen as father and son by most outsiders was always a cool thing for me because it was two strangers who had a common purpose of destroying these vampires and later on running from these vampires that why change all that up just for a modern Audience? Everyone could still understand that father son relationship in the face of the trauma that was thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching and listening we here at the fandom outpost truly appreciate it

    The reason Trash came back was because she was killed while the trioxin-contaminated rain was falling on her. The trioxin in the warehouse had been filtered out by the time the punks got there, which is why S*icide didn't come back, and there was no trioxin in the funeral home, which was why Scuz didn't come back. Oh, and that little zombie that chased Ernie back inside was actually a double amputee who took off his prosthetics and did one shot of himself running on his stumps, which was kept in the film.

      If you piece together where the Trioxin is that makes perfect sense. I like that chain of thought. Hope you enjoyed this episode. It is a movie that I’ve always kept as one of my favorite horror movies. Glad to see other people appreciating it. Thanks for supporting the channel! -Bob

    I feel like Ryan has been playing the exact same character for most of his career. I like the character but it is noticeable. Funny enough my father in law is a big fan of the comics and dislikes his portrayal of Deadpool for that reason.

      That’s a good observation. It’s kind of his comfort zone, I guess. That’s funny, about your father in law. I wonder how he feels about other actor’s portrayals of Marvel characters onscreen? Or is it just Deadpool that he gives a thumbs down to, lol. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and contribute to the channel! -Bob

    someone please explain to me why you would want to watch a spoiler review....you watch reviews about movies you have not seen to see if it is worth your time....who say's i wanna watch a movie review that spoils the movie??

    • @TheFandomOutpost
      @TheFandomOutpost 3 месяца назад

      I usually only watch spoiler reviews if I’ve seen the movie and want to hear what a favorite reviewer has to say about it to see if I agree with them or to gain some additional analysis I may not have thought of. There are a few reviewers I enjoy like a Mark Kermode or someone like that. I also like to hear other opinions on the movie I just saw. That’s why I enjoy them but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We definitely don’t want to spoil a movie for anyone before they see it. This movie had a lot of analysis that we didn’t even have time to explore. We tried to cover what we could. Thanks for stopping by. -Bob

    Awesome discussion! Liked and subscribed. You connected more dots, covered more of the questions than other channels. Looks like I'll have to watch the very end again on video when it comes out. I didn't think Nic was OTT. Casting and photography was excellent. Glad this popped up in my feed

    They could have made it, at least the folks in the basement, people in Hiroshima lived who were under half a mile from the nuke. What's more Fat Man was 15 kilotons whilst the nuclear artillery shell would be only 1. Skip 2 but check out 3, Melinda Clarke is sensational!

    It’s pretty much just ideology wrapped in arrogance with a side of insult the viewers before they even get to the theatre. It’s like going to the DMV. Even if it all goes well, it’s not worth it.
