The funny thing is that higher ranked law schools tend to have higher mandatory curves.
Non US person (german) here... kinda confused about the US edication/school system. What exactoy are mandatory curves? Something like minimlal attendance or something like that? Our school system and yalls are bloody drastically different from what i can tell
@@KhaziirEverflight This is more of a US law school specific thing, but generally speaking in US law schools, the way the professors assign grades have to follow a bell curve distribution where most of the class's grades get clustered around some pre-set median grade and fewer students are outliers from that median in either direction (few students will get an exceptionally good grade or an exceptionally bad grade; most students get a grade close to the class average). You basically have to be a very good or very bad student to significantly depart from average. Each law school will set what the median grade at that will be. The more prestigious law schools set a very high median grade, and the less prestigious law schools will set a very low median grade. In my law school, the curve was set to basically a B-, but because I was a little bit above average, I got in most of my classes I got a little bit of a higher grade than a B-.
