I'm not too sure, the only information I can find is this statement "The bridge refurbishment will improve customer safety and enhance the station environment for passengers." Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any published details to exactly what has been done.

No, it's just to the North of Chelmsford in Essex

I can now confirm that the area is indeed going to be one of the car parking areas for the station, check out my Xmas eve 2024 update of the works here ruclips.net/video/MkFJgflDAHE/видео.html where it can clearly be seen as the groundworks continue.

@ I thought or think that they will use another area around there for Costco and David Lloyd gym. But yeah I will have a look. Thanks for the info as welll

It's expected to be December 2025. I hope to get there about every 3 months during next year as I expect the exterior works will start moving along now.

Unfortunately not much more, I wanted to get more but was unable to work out the exact route it took due to the published directions not being very clear by using the names of farms and names of junctions that locals may know but are not marked as such on maps. Maybe next year.

You're not wrong, who knows what was going through the planners minds when they came up with it. It's just stupid to alternate the two lane sections the way they have.

@@rods-stuff The alternating lanes were only introduced in around 2002 as a short term safety improvement. Before that, there was just a single broken white line down the centre of the road and you'd get vehicles from both sides barrelling down the centre line, occasionally with fatal consequences.

Upgrading this section of the A303 was high on the Highway Authority's list of road projects for their next planning period and money has already been spent on the initial plans. Sadly this is now most unlikely to happen after the new Government has scrapped most new road projects. So much money is wasted in the UK planning transport projects that never get built.

Similar story down West Cornwall on the A30 Connor Downs and Hayle Bypass. Planned as dual carriageway but watered down to wide single carriageway by the conservative government of the early 1980’s. Since then the remaining gaps in the A30 dual carriageway have been gradually plugged and now were left with 102 miles of mostly motorway standard NSL dual carriageway between Exeter and Camborne which slams into a lane reduction and single carriageway at Camborne West with a slow crawl to Loggans Moor roundabout and beyond.

I used to live just outside Exeter and I often travelled down the A30 to Camborne when it was chaos through the roadworks at Temple. I certainly remember driving up the A30 and coming to a complete standstill approaching the Three Burrows roundabout, and again further up between Marazanvose and Zelah where the 3 lane sections reduced back to 2 lanes. More than once I diverted through Zelah to get ahead of the queue and re-join the A30 at the Goonhavern junction. I've seen videos of the Carland to Chiverton upgrade, hopefully the next time I visit family down in Exeter, I may take a drive down to see for myself how it's changed since I was last there.

I'm not a railway engineer or planner, so I don't know their thinking behind it, although I'm sure they have reasons for the decision.

I don't know the exact size of the sculpture, but I would guess as being very close to life size.

@@rods-stuff There don't seem to be as many fairground organs getting out and about so much in general now, but you will typically find them at steam rallies as part of their attractions.

I used to Live just outside Exeter & I can't imagine just how many times I've driven past the access road without knowing it was there. I'll keep hoping for better weather for my next trip.

It's tucked away on the edge of a village, the trees on two sides prevented getting good views from those sides.

It was half of my trip home from visiting family in Exeter, I'm just editing the second half of the journey.

Thank you, I've got some footage of an old Devon tin mine that I'm currently editing together coming up soon.

The information on Network Rail's website does say that it has been in the pipeline for around 40 years with it finally being due to open at the end of next year. Between now and then I will hopefully be able to keep the updates coming, especially towards the latter end of the project when things always appear to change more rapidly.

Thanks for watching, if you look at around the 2 minute mark it appears that the original line is being moved a few feet nearer to the road, maybe this will become a high speed pass through. On the next update I'll take the drone further along the tracks to see if/how the roadside section is connecting to the other line(s).

@@rods-stuff The line nearest the road is the rough alignment of the up line, it was so close to the road you couldn’t have squeezed a platform between the road and the track. The down line was parallel roughly where the island platform is. They have realigned the tracks to run through the station and are now reinstating the line near the road

Cool, I was making my assumption from the view in the video, unfortunately, I wasn't in the area for about 10 years and the work began before I moved back. Imagine my surprise when driving along Essex Regiment Way from the Braintree/Dunmow end when I saw the road sign for the A131 & A12 going off to the left by the McDonalds/Costa roundabout

Flying through the archway could have been a bit smoother, I should have disabled obstacle avoidance so it didn't "wander" - never mind, lesson learned.

Locally, until around the mid 90's it was known as the posh part of Walton-Clacton coastline, when it was home to mostly well-off retired people. It literally took decades to get planning permission for the first pub to be granted and caused many arguments.

The Colne Valley Railway is about 20 miles from where I live and built on an old section of track which was decommissioned in the early 60's and used to run through the town I grew up in.

I go past there every few weeks and when the work was first starting I thought that it was just simply a new road layout being put into place. I drove by about a week ago and from the ground there doesn't appear to be much progress over the last couple of months, hopefully work will proceed a bit faster when the weather improves giving me a chance to produce an update video.

Thanks for the feedback, it's just a shame that it wasn't possible to get the different times on a single day due to the very changeable weather conditions. The daylight part was shot on a Sunday morning before it opened up as I didn't want loads of people wandering about, you may also notice a patch on the grass where the circus was in the night shots taken just a couple of days earlier.

I hadn't been there for a number of years either - the only thing that appears to have changed since I was last there is that there is now a supermarket and retail park on the roundabout at the entrance to the port

Yes, closed in 1964, around the same time as the Colne Valley line from Chappel to Haverhill line also closed.
