Had mine for two years now after 8 months the monitor select button went bad😒
Matt - Do you have contact for Blue? I bought a pair for $700 and never can get someone to get back to me. Thanks buddy! I subscribed and liked so make sure you feed those pups! Tim
I've got the x32 rack mixer and followed this verbatim and it's not working.
A year passed... I'm wondering if you've found the monitor controller you were looking for? I'm just looking for one that isn't outrageously expensive, doesn't color the sound, and has all the common features. why is this so hard...
I keep getting an error message that says “average PWR for velocity layer #1 is greater than upper velocity layer.” Have you seen this and do you know how to fix this?
I ended up going with the Midas MR18. 16 excellent preamps, lots of processing and monitoring options, including Ultranet and an 18x18 usb interface. The similar Behringer X-Air is $459 right now, and right in your target price range, so maybe worth consideration.
Actually having such an old Software and being ported to current MacOS is a great thing....slate Trigger did not change too much either over the years ..what I am not sure is which is more consistent in timing.... Wave Machine is not going anywhere and are release a software that will be Insane
The joke at 2:12 was unexpected and very funny.
15 seconds after my last comment here I am. My man 💪
😂 happy to help!
Ive yet to purchase a Monitor Controller and want to find the one for me! Any luck in your search?
Yes, Check out my video on the audient Nero.
Glyn Johns method can be 2-4 mics. Great for overall sounds, and fill in with tom and cymbal mics. In today's age, I wouldn't go with anything that's not at least USB 3.0. Mainly because of lag. Most of the 400+ options also have ADAT hookups for later expansion.
Best song I've heard in a "demo" ever. Wow
5 min of pre-ramble, then you lost me in 30 seconds by dissing the Behringer without looking at the MANY glowing reviews it has on its noise level, features, and bang for buck. The brand has always been hit or miss: crappy budget mixers, bland efx units, and horrible cabs (looking at you, Behringer Live PA junk). But the other 60% of their gear is either decent or even excellent in quality. I've used their compressors, DI boxes, and limiters with great results. I'm still using a pair of their Truth monitors I bought used in 2009, after years of blasting these at house parties. Those who grabbed the black friday deal of the UMC1820 and an ADA8200 for $350 are VERY happy with their 16 channels of mic pre interface with very low noise, for less than most 8ch units.
I went out of my way to talk about how you can make great music with any of the interfaces, and how Behringer has made many great products, including the X32. You could also train AI to accumulate and summarize public reviews. That adds no value and there is no reason to make a video there I just read those reviews. Everyone here is capable of doing that themselves. And they should! My opinion is just one of many. My recommendations, however, come from personal experience or the experience of professionals that I know and trust.
What about applying processing before exporting the sample? Is that something you would do? Wanting to enhance live drum with custom made samples.
I personally prefer not to, but it is a very common practice.
very helpful tutorial... so thats just close mics right.. how do you add the corresponding Overheads and room mic samples?
So the question is……how to link the samples from same take
Do you mean link a top snare hit with a bottom snare hit , or something similar? Trigger does not do that, unfortunately.
I need to plug in 10 mikes but the top interfaces you recommend have 8 inputs, probably you have to plug in an 8 channel preamp box in these boxes to get the full 16 mic inputs. Which one do you recommend for recording with more than 8 mikes?
Right! I mentioned that as one of the positives of the top two interfaces: you can expand them from 8 to 16 very easily. Pretty much all the companies in the video make there own 8ch pre with ADAT ouput. The focusrite octopre is common, or the audient ASP800. If you had a high budget, you could do the Cranborne Audio 500ADAT.
You can get a small mixer to sub-mix part of your kit as a more inexpensive option.
I own a phoenix ascent eq and a neve 1073, both are crazy good also love the wa12 crazy value
I love the Phoenix audio eq's!
Great songs that can make any mic shine!
The song is always the most important part!
@@mattingramsoundWhat are your thoughts on the 47F model?
It is my go to mic for outside kick.@@MusicChannel-rf5zz
Good review!
Appreciate it!
I loved the cactus with the instrumental portion and the bottle for the vocals
I know I already commented but just have to add ... it's truly INCREDIBLE how much a difference an amazing (the proper or what I think is the best) mixing does for ALL of the sound(s)!! P.s. Keep showing more of your dog! ;)
Thanks, glad you liked it! I'll try to sneak in more dog shots!
This is AWESOME! I'm bookmarking it on my browser so I can keep going back to it. Thanks, Matt!
The very first question is how many mics someone wishes to use, of course. Just based on a standard 5-piece kit with 2 crashes and a ride (skipping a big debate about using 50 alternative miking techniques) I'd recommend 9 mics to capture that configuration well. Kick (1) Snare (2) Two rack toms and floor tom (3) Hi-hat (1) Overheads (2). And we often mic the ride cymbal as well (1). Total of 10 mics. Again...skipping all the debate...THAT is a very standard, professional studio miking configuration. That being said, I'd recommend that someone get something like an Audient ID series interface with optical (2 or 4 channel) as a BASE for its more immediate tactile control over monitors, headphone volume, DI, Dim, Hi-pass, phantom power etc. then add the additional 8 or more channels via optical/ADAT using either the EVO series or the phenomenal Audient ASP800 or ASP880. The ASP series preamps sound SO GOOD! Not surgically clean like millenia or grace, and not warm and wooly like Neve...but beautifully clear with a touch of analog bliss. By the way...please learn much more about MOTU. They're an exceptional, plug and play, rock-solid, built like a tank interface that is far more popular than you may realize. :)
Lots of great pro tips in this highly educational and Warmly presented video! Top job!
Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words!
Thanks for the video, Matt. Not sure how automatic any pitch matching is supposed to be in either of these apps, but pitch and phase alignment between original and replacement sample waveforms that you expressed some disappointment with is going to be quite dependent on their basic pitches as well as the polarity right from the start of each waveform (one waveform may begin going positive and the other negative for example, so polarity flip would be useful). So without any pitch correction, it is not the fault of the apps when you see and hear misalignment. Does that make sense? If pitch isn't matched, the waveforms will simply go out of phase with one another over time. This is why automatic pitch matching in UVI Drum Replacer looks very valuable to me. Try tuning the replacement drums to the originals first and only then looking at the relative waveforms in Drumagog and Trigger2. I think you'll be happier with what you see and hear at that point. Let me know how it goes and if my response here is off the mark or not.
Actually there's a different sound between the plugin version and the actual hardware of the Cl1b (own the hardware first and then got the plugin), I tend to lean hardware. But the plugin is nice to have for multi-tracks, since I don't have multi hardware units.
I hear ya! I prefer hardware too. Thanks for the info!
Let alone the price.... there is no availability for the cl-1b al over the world
You never know, I got mine in 2021 like the day after Christmas I looked on Altomusic and they had them in stock, was kind of in shock, so I confirmed and pulled the trigger the next day. The price was $3850 back then, a year later went up $70, now the price shot up over 4k.
Yep, it is hard to justify buying a CL-1B when this is available.
It should never be hard to justify the price of the real deal, we don't buy fake Jordan's because they are 20 dollars we buy the real deal Nothing wrong with clones when you can't afford the real deal but to choose the clone over what's being cloned is insane IMO
I think this topic is very interesting, I may make a video about it 1
I use DG and have never used Slate. Both should have output controls.
This is great info. I'm just starting out and appreciate the tips!
Awesome! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Is this song out yet?
It is currently in production

Hey! Thanks for the video! Have 2 questions if you can help me out: Im thinking on getting an SM57, which has worked super great playing in church; I have a Meinl Slap Shaker (Cascanet) in the front of my cajon, which I use as a Hi-Hat of sorts and it picks it up clearly (cause my cajon has the hole in the front and the mic is put there). But, I wanna do the 2 mic combo for more articulation and a more full sound. Instead of a 52, Im thinking of a Beta 57 because (apart from being in a slight budget) has made the cajon sound richer than the regular 57. So I would like to know if thats a good combo or a way to go for that. The second thing is that I wanna know is if I could put the Beta 57 more inside the cajon (to get use of its proximity effect) so I could get more bass emphases out of the cajon.
Thanks for the questions. There is no wrong answer in sound - If you like it, then do it. If you like how the beta 57 sounds, then that may be a great combo for you. Personally, I would stick with mics with more low end, but that is just me. If you end up putting the mic closer to the rear hole, any additional low end you might get will be covered by an extreme amount of mids that you get from the inside of the cajon. My advice - experiment and see what sounds better to you!
@mattingramsound Thanks! I appreciate it; will experiment and see how everything goes!
hi Matt...really enjoyed your video! I have a cajon that has both a bottom kick (front port) and a wooden snare mounted above the bottom kick..im thinking of using either the D112 or the 52 on the front bass port and then a 57 to capture the snare drum and pick up a couple little 6" splash cymbals...what is the best method for placement so there is no bleed between mics? any suggestions are very welcomed..many thanks ... the kit is from Loota
The best way to reduce bleed is just to make sure you are using cardiod mics. The 112/52 and 57 combo should work well. There is really no way to completely eliminate bleed.
I got a mixer to split my audio outputs on my interface. Main outs 1/2 are my computer and daw audio out. 3/4 are dedicated for discord and chats. Can I use both the source selectors simultaneously at the same time? Or does it monitor one or the other when selected?
You can only listen to one source at a time on your monitors, though you can route all the different sources to the headphone outputs.
@@mattingramsound got it. so only one source at a time through the monitors, but multiple sources at the same time via headphone output then? sorry a little confused still on that.

Oh ya!

Hii brother, how to connecting x32 to 4 amplifier,s and 4 monitor,s
You hardly see any video, where the toms or overhead been triggered why?
I replace Toms all the time. Triggered cymbals sound terrible though.
Sounds like the name of a laxative
Anything good out there for clean bass amp sims?
Did you check out the end of this video? I go over a clean bass sound as well. Still sounds good clean!
Cool song, I love Parallax, what did you use for the guitars?
Guitar was mic'd. Signal chain - Jericho Guitar > Empress compressor pedal > Synergy Diezel VH4 > Fryette power station > Mesa 1x12 > SM57 > wa-412 > Pro Tools
You aren't using the X Version of Parallax in your DAW
Oh man! You are right!
Where's the bass in your bass mix?
New? It’s been out for years. Though its distortion isn’t very versatile tbh
Right, I know it's been out for awhile. I meant new to me. I could see the distortion not working for every song, but it works pretty well for a lot of them. Thanks for the comment!
Great video man! I have owned this plugin for several years and seems like it is always my go-to. The options are endless. I have Darkglass as well but it’s not my favorite for the over the top heavy stuff.
Thats interesting, I love dark glass pedals for really heavy bass tones. Maybe the plugins aren't quite as good as the real thing? Thanks for the comment!
RCA or XLR, with RME ADI 2 DAC FS???
Yes 🎉🎉🎉
⭐Hello dear friend! I have a question for you and your community, but first I must thank you because I almost bought a Big Knob Passive... In my studio I use two computers each with its own interface, but I only have a couple of monitors. I suppose one solution is to buy a couple of monitors to work comfortably. But... is there a switch to switch between two sound sources? What do you recommend?
Hello! Glad you found the video helpful! A monitor controller would be the right solution for you, I would just go with a better one than the big knob passive. You can check out this video I released to get a comparison of several options. ruclips.net/video/_s7xX1bwEKQ/видео.html
Great video. I'm thinking of buying this Tascam US-16x08 for the price here in Brazil, Have you tried recording with these additional channels without preamps? Do you know if it works to add more microphones to a drum kit?
Thanks for the question! The inputs 9-16 are line level inputs, meaning you cannot plug a mic straight into them. You would need an additional 8 preamps to hit first, then go into the line inputs on the tascam. Hope this helps!
I got a pair of HS8's in excellent condition from a Goodwill store for $10 each, total of $20 for the pair. Lucky me.
DANG! Mine cost like 700.
