Maiden launch. It pretty much launches hands off. I flubbed with the camera and missed the landing. The maiden flight was done at the Huntsville Aerotow 2014.

Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Piper J3 Cub maiden flight. It took approximately 3 months to build. It has Solartex covering painted with Nelson Hobbies paint. The color is Lock Haven Yellow (Randolph 9521). This is the pre 1946 cub yellow. The engine is an O.S. Gemini 120 Twin with a Sullivan glow ignition system. The engine will hand start very easy when you don't have the throttle cut switch on. High speed Scope Cam video of H&N FTT 14.66g pellets. Head size is supposed to be 5.53 mm but are actually 5.55 mm. My Marauder with LW barrel sprays these pellets straight out of the tin. I sized these to 5.52 mm and the accuracy improved.

I was troubleshooting accuracy problems with my .22 cal Marauder (Ted's Holdover style). Ultimately I reduced MV to 800 fps to stabilize the JSB 18.1g pellet.

When I get too old to fly, I'm going to fly Cubs, Lol
ワクワクします 楽しそう✨😄
holy crap gonna fly it? or run the engine all day?
I have a 1/4 Cub (Sig) powered with the OS FF240 flat four. No problem looping from level flight even with floats. And it will fly level with rpm's close to scale maybe 3500 or so.
Nice work all around but you couldn’t find a cub spinner?
Sounds good pop but she is under power for sure.
Beautiful plane and flight. Those black covers on the landing gear cames with the kit?
I've got the same hat I think. Thanks for the video
Nice job Art.
I think an OS FT 160 would be a better engine for this beautiful plane! But when you fly scale it is okay. Nice video too, I like it!
Is it pretty hard to build this plane? I have moderate building skills
Gas control

Im working on 2 PBYs at the moment, id love to show you and discuss Shoot me an email if youd like: paul @ hootis . com Thank you

look at this link: www.etsy.com/fr/listing/821756693/baffles-benjamin-marauder-fortitude
Can you angle the floats up more?
Devil6CR The small scale of this model just makes it problematic. I think in 1/4 scale or larger you wouldn’t have these problems. But then the model is too big.

One of the most beautiful rc cubs i've seen. The fabric finish looks spectacular. Very scale flying characteristics and awesome twin sound. Great work!
Balls of Steel! Grats!

Great flying. Cubs are such a handful on the ground
Sound is a song
With respect, why the search for power? a 16 x 4 with throttle use would be plenty to fly the machine like a Cub and not like a fighter aircraft. Go for thrust instead of power and RPM. Nice job of the build though. I hope that it's still flying.
Mike White At that time I was used to over powered models. I have since gotten used to flying in a more scale like manner. Sadly it crashed due to a bizarre radio failure. My fault though, I didn’t perform a range check. It will be rebuilt but life has intervened and model building is on hold for a while.
@@ingrahal Oh! What a shame re the crash and `I hope that the "on hold" bit is not serious. Have good life, my friend.
underpowered? Its a cub not a pattern plane..
Can you please tell me how to covered the "O" rings on the landing gear. Thanks
I had the boots from a Hanger 9 1/4 scale cub. You could sew some out of faux leather
attantion tu vas t'envoller avec
You guy in Oklahoma?

What a lovely model, you just cannot beat a Piper Cub for relaxing flying.
Seemed to be very slightly nose heavy. (I could be wrong cuz the pilot may have been giving a little too much rudder at the end of the turns) It was certainly be a beautiful aircraft. I have a piper cub of my own and they’re the perfect scale tail dragger to start on too. Decathlon’s are good for that sort of thing too but you can also use a decathlon as a glider motor tow providing you’ve a powerful engine too. 🙂 thx for posting
The car driving by at the end of the runway got my attention. I'm assuming they were waiting on a successful landing to cross?
Yes we have signs up warning drivers of low flying aircraft
This Cub looks awesome! I got 2 of the smaller one, and now I`m building it in 1/4 with a Super Tartan 77. I`m thinking over that the covering will be in transparent yellow. Has anyone knowledge about, how it looks in the air? I´m afraid I can`t see, how it direction it takes, when it is transparent. Sorry for mistakes, I`m not so good in english.
Wow that"s my Clipped Wing Cub on steroids Beautiful Plane!!
Muito bom 🖒
I thanks for the comeback I just wanted to make sure I really enjoyed your video to keep up the good work I'll be watching them
It's a Saito? Hope I spelled it right 180 Gold Edition
Oh yeah plenty of power
Do you think my CO2 30cc 4 cycle engine would work on that Piper without being underpowered
James Morrison I’m not familiar with that engine but I’m flying it with a 1.20 and 30cc is equal to a 1.80
Might be a little underpowered like you said
what distance? Is it raining? cool video
40 yards, yes it was raining. Thanks
Super ! un beau modèle et il vole très bien...bons vols avec !
Thank you!!!
Espectacular muchas felicitaciones 😃 Un saludo muy grande desde Buenos Aires Argentina 😃👍👍.
Thank you!!!!
That's one of the prettiest Cubs I've seen. I prefer Lockhaven yellow over the later Cub yellow. One of my fellow club member's father had a J2 Cub with only 40HP! On a windy day you could barely tell if you were moving forward. I built Great Plains .40 Cub and flew it with an O.S. 70 FS. It would put-put across the sky at just over 1/4 throttle. very scale like speed. I've seen people fly Cubs with so much power they could hover them like a 3D plane....makes me wanna stomp on those planes. Visited Balsa USA when Ron Bush was still alive...what a shop!
Thanks for the kind words John.
Scale fly for my Cub is around 3/4 throttle on the same engine set up like this , You could do a beautiful full rudder turn hammer head on this Cub or invert with no gravity effects . Seem to me this 1/4 Sig with Gemini Twin 120 is perfect married .
well done!
it's definatley an airplane that you actually have to Fly it. you have to use momentum for aerobatics as the real thing, but i guess that's what gives you a sense of pride after every flight.
ripmax333 it’s one of the easiest hardest planes to fly. You have to fly it til it’s in your hands on a windy day. I think that’s what makes them fun for me. Your comment is spot on
I think your Cub has just the right amount of power. The real Piper Cub could not loop from level flight, either. You can try different props, APC's pull well, Xoar, Zinger. Never did like Master Airscrew, myself.
I agree, I ended up using a Xoar prop and got more rpm because they are lighter. It flies very scale like.
Excellent! All too often I see people over-powering their models. It's so unnecessary. And the sound of that Gemini twin is hard to beat. May you enjoy your Cub for many years to come. "Beware the downwind turn!"
which generation,os ft 120 is in your cub? i building a 91inch wing,cub,and have both gen 1,and gen 2,os ft 120,geminis.
I'm not sure. How do you tell 1 from 2?
in front of the motor, FT120 II on front,it .if not ,its a gen. 1,which is lighter and less power.
can u do a how to build on this plz:-):-)

Love the sound of that OS twin Looks like a great setup foe the cub great scale looks and sound congrats.
