I was wondering, do you have your patients stop taking the semiglutide medication prior to Lipedema surgery?

The tops of her thighs at the end still seem to have a lot of bulk. That's my problem area, makes my legs very painful and uncomfortable.

I have lipedema. I have done everything I can do but I know I need surgery. Of course, lack of insurance coverage is standing in my way. My arms hang so low that I burnt the underpart of one of them, twice on a lot on my stove. Even with the photos of the burns, documentation, etc they still wouldn't cover it. Not one Dr in my state of RI knows lipedema. Not one plastic surgeon here even wants to learn about it.

I was able to get mine approved on the first attempt. I had extensive paperwork showing I had tried nutrition, exercise, and weight loss meds. I focused on how painful it was, how heavy my legs are, how it impacted my mobility, and how as the diseases is progressing my mobility is getting worse. I printed off everything I purchased from Amazon, my compression pumps, herbal supplements, dry brushes, vibration plate, compression garments. I explained how even get my underwear off and on over my hips was painful, how just having my clothes rub my legs hurt. If someone rub my calves it was so painful it would give me chest pain. I had an approval within 10 days. They agreed to pay for everything except the skin tightening. I have Premera. I hope this helps getting others approved. I’m three days post op and feeling good. The best pain relief I get is when I get up and walk. The first minute of walking is a bit spicy but once I get moving it drastically improves.

Your videos are definitely helpful. It’s so discouraging that it’s rare to find a doctor that is actually knowledgeable. I’m happy you are here in Jersey too…I plan on coming to see you at some point in the next year. I would love to see some videos that explains all of the different textures and if liposuction will work on the larger nodules/lipomas, the hard marble type and then the big sections of fibrotic areas. I’d also love to hear some things to look for and document along this journey that will be important in getting surgeries approved…particularly panniculectomies and bracchioplasty.

Similar frustrations in my practice. Often with central type lipedema I try to get good lateral photos of the legs since the upper posterior calf is usually more involved than the ankle and is easier to see on photos. This has helped us get some approvals on peer to peer and avoid the appeals process. Keep up the good work

I can't even get my insurance to allow me to go to Boston to get diagnosed. There is not one Dr in RI that knows lipedema.

Why will you only do a Single case at through Cover lipedema? They won't even help anyone in RI because the insurance companies won't recognize Lipedema. I have been fighting that and advocating as much as I can.

Dr. Volshteyn I will be showing my mom this video and calling your office on Monday. I am awake because the knots in my neck are making me nauseous and have been this way for 9 years!!! My mom and I both struggle with our knots and even with acupuncture, Chiro, and massage, the knots only subside for a day.

What the heck! Is there a reason for that? He will be having them again if something is not changed. If not for the insurance, would you make an incision for each one separately?

I’m curious how to know the difference between lipomas and large Lipedema nodules? I feel like I have a dozen hard boiled eggs in my inner thigh.

This is so untrue. As a reconstructive plastic surgeon you have no means to stop the growth. You should not be treating areas that do not have lipedema growth as that would unnecessarily increase the risk of developing secondary lymphedema. Lippy women can have growth during hormonal period, not lippy women will. There is a case study of a woman developing at 96. Did all of a sudden she get a surge of E. Unlikely.

I had a huge one on my right ankle. It was like a golf ball was on the side of my ankle for about 20 years. It looked painful, but did not hurt. I started carnivore in june 2023. Today, October 5, 2024, the tumor is almost gone. I can see my ankle now and it only a little puff on the side of my ankle. Carnivore cut most of the inflammation. My thighs are still huge but my ankle is clearly getting better.

And did it work?

Is there anyone out there who, having received this surgery, can speak to its efficacy?

HATED semaglutide, but tirzepatide has worked wonders on my inflammation post-surgery.

So by that logic, treating only the upper leg for example, you would then get additional growth in the lower leg and lower abdomen as they are next to the treated area as in your outer hip example?

What advice you you give someone that thinks she has lipedema but not sure what to do .

I would love to see her after. My legs look like this but on smaller scale.

I think it’s just skill because I’ve seen other docs in Europe that removes all or majority of the lipedema fat and sculpt very nicely. The results are amazing.

This logic makes no sense because with lipedema, You don’t want to show your legs. Wouldn’t part of solution be to make the treated areas as aesthetically pleasing as possible?

So with PS, the emphasis is solely on the treatment and not aesthetics. How does Dr. Su get such beautiful results? It seems he can do both?
