I had the pleasure of participating in a Teaching Artist residency at the Utica Elementary/Middle School. I worked alongside the Utica Art teacher Coach Hawkins and the students in every grade level at Utica Elementary & Middle School to produce an artwork pertaining to their favorite food.
The purpose of this project is to focus on the creation of interactive ways to engage the students with healthy food choices. Utica, MS is closer to a Food Apartheid than a Food Desert due to factors such as race, location, and income level that greatly impact the access to affordable, healthy food options.
This was a fun project!
