We have too much sagebrush creating a tremendous fire hazard (with winds and a dry climate). Our goal is to use the “solar panel” that God has given us in a productive way - to grow grass and sequester carbon. The sagebrush is a “wound salve” that nature allows (not its first choice) to cover the land when it has been abused by overgrazing. It contributes to erosion and is the second to last st...

Hill Grazing Explained
Просмотров 2903 года назад
We have millions of “unusable” hillside acres in the United States alone, much less the world. What if we could use that land to be productive (milk, meat and hides) and at the same time grow grass (the most efficacious method of carbon sequestration). These lands are not plowable - nor would we ever advocate plowing at the level that the conventional, industrial, mighty AG machine does in the ...

Creek Restoration Project

The early settlers to our Ranch harvest all the trees in the creek that runs over two miles across our land. This was a matter of necessity, I am sure, and they no doubt did this in ignorance (lets not forget the conditions they lived in during the late 1800’s) But, the trees, and subsequently the beavers were unfortunately eradicated. This made the stream speed up considerably, and take tons o...

Cody (only a short drive from the Ranch) provides two of perhaps the greatest venues in Wyoming, every night. First there is the Cody Cattle Company Dinner and Show. This event is never the same, and always great. The buffet is generous, delicious and plentiful. The show is even better - and often has a “drop in” from visiting singers and professionals. Think Grand Ole’ Opry with food. The show...

With brush overlays and infestations due to poor grazing management, we first correct the root problem. Too much continuous use of the forage base by animal pressure 24/7/365 or 24/7/less than 365 - it doesn't matter how many days the animals are left to graze continually - if it is over one to three days (max - under certain conditions), it’s too much time! Next we mechanically remove the brus...

    How long would it take two pigs to eat an area this size?

    "and there's no smell associated with it..." Sir, I have smelled hog shit before! And you cannot fool me into thinking there is no smell associated with it! You must be from the Biden administration if you think you can tell me hog shit don't stink and that I might actually believe you!

    This ground looks more like our new five acres of hills and tall grass in Colorado. I will go read your websites to see what you say about sheep. I'm hoping if I got 3 wether hair sheep they would help with weed and grass. Now I also want to invite our neighbor's cows to come visit our ravine more. Thank you.

    I’ve seen cages like that where you can push them manually no problem, so you never even have to start a tractor

    Seems like there's a lot in such a small pen. How often do you move the pig tractor? Do you have them on taller grass or just focused on rooting up noxious weeds?

    Spreading parasites?

    • @FreeAmerican
      @FreeAmerican 2 года назад

      This would be better because the pigs are eating fresh grass and you are breaking (or weakening) the cycle of parasites'.

    Okay... we are trying the electric line method but our pigs are too smart... this is the only next step to keep pasturing our pig.

      Our pig's hate hot wire. Though the boar kept covering up the hot wire.

    I'm rotating my pigs through my woods they love it. I'm back seeding and creating a silver pasture

    • @suchandradasi
      @suchandradasi 4 года назад

      What is your system? How do you do it in the "woods" with all the trees and rough ground? Do you use electric fence? or a pig tractor?

    • @davidhickenbottom6574
      @davidhickenbottom6574 4 года назад

      @@suchandradasi I would suggest a good perimeter fence to meet the needs whether it's Hogs are cows but the pig's will train very good to a hot wire . If you want to create a silver pasture you will have to remove the small trees before you put the pigs in there . 3 pigs to start if you get females plan on processing In 4 or 5 months. Once they start to cycle their a pain in the ass.
