    These guys are incredible. Absolutely incredible. When they're at their most tame, theyre amazing. I have two myself, an about 2 year old male, and a little 4 month old female who lives in a separate enclosure for now! Ive only had the little female for a short time. But even though shes spooked right now, shes already eaten from tongs for me, and curiously peeks over from her hiding spot. I have confidence once she settles in and we work more together she'll be super calm. My male, is insane! Begs to come out, leaps out to my hands. Lets me handle his tail, I can scoop him up like an ice cream cone lmfao. He hangs out aometimes while i do the rest of my reptile chores! Im glad theyre getting more popular. Super little guys!

    I'm about to try modifying for a RHP and light kit, but I don't have humidity issues even now. I actually block off half the screen with a pce of the packing styrofoam that came with the enclosures. I don't bother spraying the substrate because it's not going to stay wet or damp. I use water bottles and have at it lol if anything I use a dehumidifier at times because it'll stay too humid in the summer if I don't. None of mine want anything to do with humid hides I've tried, all I know is they shed well and seem to enjoy their constant temps. I truly recommend these, and the prices have come down. ❤

    These enclosures are great, especially at their price point. I have 6 of these all for ball pythons. However, as im building them i silicone all the interior gaps and i also use insulation tape on the screen to hold heat and humidity. For $125 you're not going to find a better terrarium even if you have to make a couple of easy modifications.

    Hey brother, I have a question that maybe you can help with. in the near future, I am going to get a Pac-Man frog. In the past couple of years debates have come out in regard to heating and lighting. Heat pads are outdated and only heat up the side of the glass and are virtually useless. Would it be recommended for my exo terra 18x18x18 to get the exo terra compact top with a natural light bulb on one side and UVB on the other? one side gives off natural light and heat I assume and the other side UVB for frog growth and development and health and for plant growth?

    • @jaexotics
      @jaexotics 2 месяца назад

      @@TerraOblivion27 in this hobby we try to give our animals the best husbandry possible but what that turns into is everyone is a biologist and if you don’t do everything they think is right then you’re wrong unfortunately. My personal experience when providing warmth to these guys a low wattage heating fixture appropriately fixed away from the enclosure works best. These animals burrow to escape heat and for moisture so a heat source from below seems unnatural and without thermostats they can get way to hot for these frogs. Zoo med makes great nano fixtures and low wattage bulbs and I’d set the enclosure up and monitor the temps and humidity and see how hot it get and how dry before getting the frog. Many people push UVB on this species and many other species that never see the light of day and that’s also controversial and in my opinion everyone thinks they are a biologist. These guys live on the floors of the forest with their entire bodies covered except there eyes for a majority of their time. UVB rays would rarely ever reach them because of the forest canopy. They dig holes, hide under leaves and moss and are nocturnal. UVB has proven to have beneficial advantages to species but for a species that never sees it I don’t see the point and it seems unnatural. That’s just my take, and yes led lighting for visual light is fine. I hope this helps and if I didn’t answer everything just let me know

    I have 3 of these. 2 of the 48 x 24 x 24 for my ball pythons and a 36 x 18 x 18 for my sand boa . The thing I like least about them is that I have to use a sprayer to wet the substrate down but I have to go slowly and turn the coco chips while I spray or the water will drain out of the bottom. I'm hoping silicone round the bottom edges will fix that. Other than that, I really like them. They're easy to keep clean.

    do you know if these guys would swim or soak if given a paludarium?

    • @jaexotics
      @jaexotics 3 месяца назад

      @@acsakai based off my experience working with them and giving them soakings to aid in shed, they can tolerate shallow waters. I wouldn’t keep them in a paludarium. While they can stay afloat and swim for short period of time they aren’t built for swimming at long periods at a time. If they enter a deep water section in a paludarium and can’t get out they’ll stress themselves out, become to tired and drown. From my research they are hardly seen hanging out near large bodies of water in the wild. I wouldn’t take the risk for the sake of the animal’s longevity and for your wallet because they are a tad bit pricey right now

    I've got a custom 75x50x130cm Vivarium all ready, with a thriving group of fruit beetles (fun snacks, though likely too big and hard) and a colony of vampire crabs living at the bottom. I am fully expecting the Keeley to snack on the crabs when they can find them, but since the crabs breed readerly and in general are nocturnal, it should be interesting to see how it works. I got the idea to add them since the Keel bellies apparently often live round coastal areas. The water area at the bottom should help keep up humidity on top of the misting system.

    Thanks for this video! It’s really clear and to the point. It’s hard to find videos like this in the reptile hobby lol.. I’m thinking of getting a group of 3 of these guys in the future. Hoping to do a custom vivarium build. I’m new to the reptile hobby but a moderately experienced pet owner. I was thinking about getting a leopard gecko (and I still might at some point in the future- they’re cute) but emerald tree skinks won me over by how attentive, intelligent, and present they same. My favorite thing with small pets is this sense of being observant and thoughtful about the environment around them. My sense of leopard geckos is they’re wonderful, but very simple creatures. Plus, social pets are such a delight. I used to keep rats and watching them interact with each other is such a treat. Feeling like you have this little society of critters in a box in your house is more satisfying than an individual animal imo. Anyways- I appreciate your videos, they’ve been a great resource!
