My son took the 3 wheeler out for a spin around the neighborhood. This was a great chance to see my Morgan Grand Prix - inspired cyclecar in action, so I filmed it for posterity. He had so much fun he drove for half an hour! He kept the speed down so I could stay up with him on my bicycle. It can go quite a bit faster. I've had it up to 40 mph and still accelerating on a test run. I would need ...
Just a short drive in the 3 Wheeler

This is just a quick video of a short drive in the three wheeler cyclecar I built. No voice over or fancy edits, just a first person view of the ride. I held the camera down by the wheel instead of up at eye level so I could see where I was going, so this is the view you'd get when tucked in low for better aerodynamics. ;-P Sorry for the shakiness but I was driving and shooting at the same time.

1934 RAF Rolls-Royce Armoured Car CAD Model Fly-Through

I've finished my SketchUp model of a RAF Type A Pattern Rolls-Royce Armoured car. This model is based on plans developed at RAF Kidbrooke in 1934. The original plans provide dimensions of virtually every part of the armoured car other than the body plates themselves and the bits provided by Rolls-Royce. Because the armoured body plates are not dimensioned, the plates shown in my CAD model are s...

We just got back from the Fall Fly-In at the Pioneer Flight Museum in Kingsbury, Texas and thought we'd share some of the fun we had with the WWI reenactors . Three skirmish events were provided for the crowd in addition to displays and demonstrations. The FT tank replica ran great as did the motor bikes and we all had a great time!
1913 Grand Prix Cyclecar Replica

I find historic cyclecars fascinating. Back in the days when Henry Ford was still working towards his Model T, the only economical vehicular choice for a person of average means was a motorcycle, but this gave birth to a new idea: that an automobile could be built using the affordable and lightweight parts of a motorcycle. This led to the development of the "voiturette," a miniature car for two...
Renault FT tank Replica

Just a short clip of the replica Renault FT tank in action during the Fall 2021 airshow at the Pioneer Aerodrome in Kingsbury, Texas. My friend Al and I built the hull, I built the turret and Hotchkiss mg (it is scratch-built and just simulates firing) and then Al and his cousin Brent made it go. We plan to put out a "making of" video one of these days...

My Dad bought it and then I refurbished it as a combined Christmas and Birthday gift to my Mom. My brother, who is playing...
Budget Rolls Royce Armoured Car

Howdy! This is a slide show of a project I did quite some time ago. Funding was lean but I had a hankering to build a Rolls-Royce Armoured Car that I...eh'em.. I mean the kids could play in. With almost no budget I dove right in using the scraps I had in my garage and some cheap wire wheels from a Chinese firewood dolly! I took inspiration from Dave Manson's great RUclips Channel showing how to...
Cy-Clone Motorized Bicycle (re-edit)

Howdy! Back in 2010 I built a tribute bike (not a "replica" as I say in this video) inspired by a 1913 Cyclone motorcycle. My "Cy-Clone" is based on a Worksman industrial bicycle and a motorized bike motor kit, to which I added vintage looking gas tank, badges, lights, seat, handlebars, grips and pedals. I've driven this bike at car shows, motorcycle shows and out at the Pioneer Aerodrome in Ki...

What are the specs on the motor and battery?

    • @Retro-Active
      @Retro-Active Месяц назад

The battery is the NBPOWER 72V 20AH Electric Bicycle Lithium Battery, with 80A BMS and 72V 5A Charger for 2000W-3000W Ebike kits. I found it on Amazon. I have a mixed opinion on it. The battery was fine for the first year but now the range has dropped very noticeably. This is probably due to the cheap charger and BMS. The charge indicator light on the charger goes green long before the battery is fully charged. This should apparently be interpreted to mean that it is switching from fast charging to slow charging. I didn't know this and regularly disconnected it as soon as it went green. I think this created a situation where some cells aren't fully charging anymore as the system isn't sophisticated enough to balance the charge across all the cells. In its present state the battery will go for about 15 minutes with me in it or 30 minutes with the kids. I don't know how long it went when new, as I never ran out of juice in the neighborhood, but it was a heck of a lot longer than that. The hub motor is a NBPOWER 3000W 80A kit. It works great and will take the 3-wheeler up over 40 mph.

This is not a TUTORIAL, just a couple of guys getting their first T instruction and having some nervous fun, not an advanced training. Don't try this at home...oh, wait you probably don't own a T and if you did you would already know how to drive it. I am an awful teacher but the guys figured it out mostly in their own. My comments on the video are often my personal anxiety talking. There is more room to drive at the museum but this was a "basic" training video over a limited course. The bikes carb crapped out but but I have replaced it and doing some chain work on it now. Just got through "break in" and needs some tweeking.

I am impressed. Noble effort. If you have the motivation and creativity to build the 1/2 scale model, it is clear to me that you have the capability to build a full scale model. What you have built must have taken a lot of thought, time and energy. From someone who has built a full scale replica RRAC 1914, (though it was only 3/4 complete when my engineering business was sold), I am glad to see you added your project to RUclips.

Until around 2000, it was considered by notables in the armoured museum world including The Tank Museum Bovington that no examples of the 1914 pattern Rolls Royce Armoured Car (1914 RRAC) existed anywhere in the world. At about this time, David Fletcher, the then librarian at Bovington, (now retired) told me about an author writing a book on the World's remaining RR Silver Ghosts had travelled to India to check out Indian owned Silver Ghosts. They told the author about a 1914 RRAC on display at an Indian military museum. In 2001 and 2003 I travelled to India on business and took time out to track it down. It is indeed an 1914 pattern and is located at the Ahmednagar Cavalry Training Centre museum. I took a taxi from Mumbai to Ahmednagar (5 1/2 hours each way!). At the time of my visit, there were 48 exhibits, some quite rare (such as a Sherman with mine detonating flails and a German SDFZ 8 wheeled armoured car). Of the RR 1914 pattern, anything of value has long been pilfered. Brass, German Silver etc. It was in an unloved condition though received a coat of paint every now and then. During it's post WW1 service with the Indian Army, its wheels and balloon tyres had been replaced with solid disc wheels and solid rubber tyres. It must have been excruciating riding in one of these post war modified examples. I spent a lot of time at the museum in the two visits, reverse engineering the body. 8mm plate steel, probably manganese steel. The body is like a giant mecchano set. It is held together with 3/8" Hex head bolts, 3/8" counter sunk screws, and hex nuts. BSW thread. These were not standard (modern) BSW. The hex heads and nuts were thicker and larger than modern BSW 3/8" fasteners. Steel angle is used to connect many of the armoured panels. The only curved panels are the turret, the rear turret hatch and two rear body panels. Turret runs on plain steel bearings on standard mild steel, curved u channel. There is no winding mechanism to traverse the turret, it is simply man handled into position. The chassis/drive train is pure Silver Ghost with of course, dual rear wheels and tyres, and the standard Silver Ghost 7 leaf rear springs increased to 11 leaves, the lowest leaf is 3/8" thick, the remainder standard Silver Ghost leaf spring thickness. Each armoured steel panel has a part number stamped into it. When I was at the museum, this RR 1914 pattern was painted light blue but why I don't know. I tool hundreds of photos during the two visits and created a complete set of dimensional drawings. The finish of the steel is crude with edges looking like they have been flame cut with no attempt to clean up the rough edge. At the time, I owned a defence engineering/manufacturing business in Melbourne Australia specialising in manufacturing modern armoured fighting vehicle components for the Australian Army's then Leopard MBT, M113A1 fleet, and ASLAV fleet (LAV-25). In 2001 after returning to Australia, I purchased a project rolling RR chassis of the period and me and my workers commenced building a replica out of steel. Unfortunately, the business was sold before the project was completed. It was about 3/4 complete. The new owner broke up the body and sold the chassis with its original doctors coupe body. Until I came across this RUclips video, I hadn't thought about creating a RUclips video on our project. I will give this some thought.

Thank you for your wonderful comments. I think your story would make a fascinating video or a great book! I've been in correspondence with David Fletcher many times over the years, most notably discussing information regarding the Ford truck chassis used for the RAF's so-called "Fordson" Armoured Cars of WWII, which were made by transferring Rolls-Royce Armoured Car bodies onto 1.5-ton American-made Ford truck chassis (they were left hand drive). Rolls Royce Armoured cars are a passion of mine. I have been compiling research on them for 30 years now and have scans of numerous photos, manuals and other documents. I learned about the Ahmednagar car from an Indian website about 20 years ago and dream about visiting it one day as you did to take photos and make measurements. Although I have copies of hundreds of historic photos of these cars, I have relatively few showing the surviving car in India. I work at a university in Texas and only a few days ago I was thinking about approaching our Indian students' organization to see if someone might have contacts there who could help me find photos and measurements. As you can see from the partly completed CAD model in my video, I don't have a set of plans for the armoured body. What I do have is a set of plans that were produced by RAF Kidbrooke in the 1930s that describe just about everything on their 1914 cars at that time - except for the body! No panel or body frame dimensions are given. I managed to reverse engineer the dimensions of the turret panels based on radii given for various items in the plans that were bolted to it and a few educated guesses. It did fortunately include full drawings for the turret ring, rollers, and the other bits you can see in my video. I have some sketches with basic dimensions for the 1920 Pattern car at the Tank Museum which I hoped would allow me to reconstruct the body, but there seem to be some dimensional differences with the 1914 Pattern cars, or the sketches I have are inaccurate, as the 1920 body panels don't quite fit the RAF drawings of their 1914 cars. Would you be willing to share your knowledge about the Ahmednagar car? I would be happy to share all of the information and photos that I have to help you. Please post a reply here if you are interested in discussing this further while I try to figure out how to get you my email address without giving it out to the world! Mark

The piano is doing well. When considering an old piano the main thing is that the piano sound board isn't cracked. That can't be easily repaired. The tuning pins also need to be tight enough to hold their position. Most other items can be repaired yourself. Rusty stings affect the tone and are prone to break. Also most old pianos haven't been tuned in a while and the tuning will tend to drift. Expect to have to tune it frequently until it settles back in. Most professional piano tuners will say it isn't worth it to restore a piano. Often what this really means is it isn't worth it to THEM and they will charge so much for their time that you won't be able to make them do it! Do most of the work yourself and save them for the hard bits. Take lots of pictures before you start and as you go. Having a good piano repair manual is worth it as well. There is some good info online here: www.stevespianoservice.com/Free-Online-Piano-Repair-Instruction/fix-your-own-piano-start-here.htm

@@Retro-Active Thanks so much for your reply! By luck the woman giving it away has had to delay moving by a week so I've hired a piano technician to go to her house with me tomorrow. I already inspected the soundboard and pins myself, but figure it is worth $100 to have a professional tell me what I'm getting myself into before I pay another $350 to have the giant thing moved to my house! Thanks for the inspiration, and I'll let you know if I post a video of how it all goes for us. PS How often have you found it needs to be tuned?

Al and I hope to make a video about the construction of this tank one day. Were were fortunate to find several useful scanned historic plans and manuals online. It was also helpful to have an original within driving distance to photograph and examine up close. Al's cousin Brent was responsible for the design and construction of the drivetrain. The tracks roll and support most of the tank's weight, but the motive power is provided by a "fifth wheel" concealed under the tank. This takes a lot of the stresses off the tracks so they can be more easily made from less expensive materials.
