Keystone - A-51
The A-51 chairlift at Keystone Colorado, is a short double chairlift that services many of Keystone's terrain parks, which are known as the A-51 area.
_History:_
A-51 has been operating since 1974 at Keystone, and operated in what is called the Packsaddle area of the resort (which is lookers right of the mountain). It has had quite a lengthy history at Keystone since its installation, and is currently the oldest chairlift in Keystone's lift fleet. When it was originally installed in 1974, it was known as the Packsaddle double and started much farther downhill in the namesake Packsaddle bowl. It was shortened two years later in 1976 to make room for the new Go Devil double chair, but to als...

    This lift was built to be only a fraction of the length of its predecessor in order to make room for the Village Express. The predecessor Riblet ended adjacent to where the Sam's Knob lift ended, and having three lifts feeding into that spot would've made things rather crowded. Because the area at the top isn't as spread out as, say, points at Vail like Patrol Headquarters and Wildwood (with three lifts converging on one restaurant), or the Summit House at Keystone.

    The motor sounds like the Skyeship Gondola at Killington, but I believe Skyeship runs at a lower gear reduction ratio, because it sounds like this when running at 1200 fpm, whereas when it runs at 1000 fpm, it sounds like a regular lift running at 800 fpm.

      @@tucker.84 They decided on a gondola in 2006 to replace Funnel at least in part because of them putting in the Meadows learning area at the base of the Elk Camp lift. They probably went with a chairlift for replacing Fanny Hill here because of the amount of lapping traffic.

  • @TheLewistownTrainspotter8102
    @TheLewistownTrainspotter8102 4 дня назад

    Correction for your video description: Fanny Hill wasn't a double, it was a high speed quad that ran up to a point between towers 11 and 12, just above where Coney Glade started. At the time, to get to the summit, you rode up Fanny Hill, then rode up Coney Glade, then you could access Big Burn or Sam's Knob. Fanny Hill and Coney Glade were supplemented by a Riblet double called Burlingame. The mid-station on the Village Express isn't where Fanny Hill ended. It is, however, where Burlingame ended prior to 2005. To make room for the Village Express, Burlingame was shortened to end where the Coney Express's midstation is now located. It also received Fanny Hill's Alpha drive, and it still does in its new capacity as the Snow Park double at Montana Snowbowl. The Village Express actually also indirectly replaced the old Sam's Knob double, as that lift started at the top of Burlingame and ran up Promenade, whereas the Sam's Knob high speed quad runs up skier's right side of Slot. This was done so that all of the Sam's Knob pod's trails could be lapped via the namesake lift, as opposed to forcing people to endure a long ride on Campground if lapping the trails west of Promenade.

    Maybe reducing the number of chairs to increase the chair spacing would give beginners more time to get to the loading zone. Steamboat did that with Christie Peak Express, and it works great.

    Thanks for the video. By extending the bottom terminal back down to where Burlingame was we hoped to alleviate congestion at the Village Express lift, which it seems to be doing so far this season. You can access the lift from the Snowmass Mall without skiing down Fanny Hill to the VX. It's also useful for anyone wanting to get over to the Big Burn lift or Ullrhof restaurant without needing to go to the top of Sam's. Great upgrade to Snowmass Mountain!

      When sitting on the new comfort chairs, I found that the space between bar and seat was kind of small for the average person. It doesn't help that they also attach a trail map on each bar as well, so the first time I rode up on the lift, I got whacked on the head, lol. You can even see in my recording when I pull the bar down I have to lean to the left just to not get hit. But other than that I think the seats are designed pretty well, and they don't rattle over the towers, like so many LPA chairs do.

The bottom terminal is where Burlingame started, and the midstation is where Burlingame was cut back to in 2005 when the Village Express went in (and is just uphill of where Fanny Hill ended).
