Tear My Still House Down (cover) New Salem 2024
An emotive song, well performed!
Great video. Thanks. But that cabin and the forestry around it looks like nothing in my memory of New Salem.
Thank you. This is the New Salem Village near Petersburg, IL. Home of Abraham Lincoln during his early years. The Cabin in the background is the Lincoln-Berry General Store, one of Abraham Lincoln's endeavors before going to Washington, DC.
Very nice 35. Resonates like a symphony. What do you think?
Thank you. I love all of them for different reasons. The Martin is my most expensive and probably the one I prefer when playing alone and attempting to sing. I also love the rarity of the D-76 for collector reasons.
Was surprised at how good that first Eastman sounded, more balanced tone than any of the others including the Martin. The Martin had more bass and volume, the 2nd Eastman sounded tight, and the other guitar seemed to have some fret buzz?
Thank you. I would agree, wasn't sure it came through in the video. The E1D Eastman is wonderful for camping. I picked that up for $425 and that is the best "low end" guitar I've ever played. I would not be afraid to play it in a jam setting at all. It will hold up to anything out there. The Taylor does have a lower action which is why the fret buzz, I can have a pretty heavy hand. The new Tony Rice style Eastman is tight and new. Each day it gets better and I am loving it the more I play it. It is very articulate and great for lead playing which is what I am wanting to work on. The Martin, well it is a Martin. It has everything I expect from a Martin and love it for those reasons. It's like an old comfortable pair of shoes that just feels like home.
A Really Nice Demonstration of All. That Martin Sounds Superb!
"promo sm" 😚
Thank you for the comment. I'm not sure what you are saying. Here are facts about my post, 1) This is not a channel that promotes anything and there is no financial gain as the result. 2) The main reason I post is mostly personal. I've had family that played instruments and once they passed I've realized I have no video of their journey into music or videos of their playing. 3) I have two very young and beautiful granddaughters that I wish to inspire as they get older and I may not be here in person to do so. My hope is these videos might help do that.
Love it man
Great performance Jeff. Big like from your new Florida friend 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great song ain't it dude....Good job
I can play mandolin for you on that song 😊
Nice rendition of copperhead road. Kudos
Thank you. You are too kind. I have been laid up due to shoulder/neck injury. Started working on this for some guys I play with and posted it for their benefit. I'm not proud of it but considering the pain and numbness I have on the right side I thought is was good enough for them to work from. Bonus that someone else got some benefit from it as well. Thank you again.
@@jefflittle6567 it was good, stands well. I enjoyed it. Thank you.
that sounded really good
Thank you
Nice playing Jeff!
Wait, I think I know that guitar. We met, down at the crossroads.
This is not a Taylor, and will never sound that dim. Please move it along to someone else who will appreciate it, rather than tinker around and neuter it further. Bridge Doctors are a joke folks. Shaving the bridge is not a solution and causes further issues. Most 60s,70s & 80s Yamahas need neck resets. Stop tinkering Mr.Taylor ! Leave that neck alone. You'll take that tone away from that neck.
Considering it belongs to me and not worth spending $500 on a $200 guitar, I will do what I want. Truth is, I like the results. Too bad you have such hatred toward Taylor. Besides the Taylor, I also own Martin, Eastman, Gibson, and Washburn. They all have a place and bring me great joy. Don't be so narrow-minded.
Awesome best yet. Thanks
Nice one man 👏
You're not alone!! Wonderful tune.
Nice playing and singing.
cool.
Great job on that guitar, I surprised I didn't break mine, I ran heavy strings on it for years, I run lights now. It was my first guitar 1979, still have it. 159 bucks on sale 210 regular price, over 800 bucks in 2022 dollars. I just put a bone nut a saddle on mine, had to sand the heck out of both to get the action where i like it. It really plays and sounds awesome there is no projection though, no boom. I had never blown this thing out either, there was it seems a pound of lint and dust from 43 years of neglect. I got tetanus shots more than I changed strings on this thing. Still sound great. Its no high end Martin but it is awesome! Congrats on the successful fix on yours.
Great cover ❤️
I was looking for a way to refresh my memory on the rhythm of this fun song and ran across you video. I'm 60, just started playing mandolin 9 months ago, and am loving every minute of struggle and triumph. 😉 Thank you for sharing!
You got time to breath you got time for music
Love it uncle u do amazing job
Thank you
Woooooo! Great job on this. Everything sounded nice and I think i can use your playing to help me cover this song to. Good job!
posted on my birthday, thanks man!
The SJ-180 I had 16 years ago was great for slide and blues in open tunings. Would put in a soundhole pickup to play out at open mics. Those are a specialized sounding durable model, not great for everything. The stock tuning keys are kind of lousy, too loose.
Great job Jeff!
Thank you Tom.
Price seccond?
Not for sale
I'm just asking about the current price range. Because I want to own and want to sell it. Minus usage conditions
It's top solid?
I've read several places that the SJ-180 is plywood top. I have looked this one over many times and it looks solid to me. I would assume there must have been some with solid tops from what I can tell.
NO! Cheap guitar..not worth it! Get a FS-830!
@tigerbalm666 different people have have different requirements and preferences. Those can be great guitars for some styles.
WOW! Great job Jeff. When you retire, now you can have a second profession as a Luther.
Thanks. Watched a lot of RUclips videos and went from there. Reamer tool coming today and I figure I am going to remove the strings and tweak it some more. Something I did not mention in the video: if you run your fingers down the side of the neck and can feel the sharp edges of the frets, its usually a sign the guitar has been too dry. Mine has this problem and its really hard to steam the neck with the finish on it. Steaming the fret board too much can cause the glue on the fret board to let go. I don't like the gloss finish on the neck anyway, so taking the finish off to steam is going to help solve two problems. I also failed to mention that the neck on these old Yamaha's are often glued with epoxy making them very difficult (if not impossible) to remove, so I am getting the results I wanted without being too invasive. I have been happy with the results thus far. Moral of this project.....Keep your guitars at proper humidity. :-)
Well done Jeff
Very nice Jeff! When you retire soon, you can take your act on the road!
Great job Jeff!
Thank you. BTW, should I know who Captiantek77 is? Not that it matters, but you know what they say about curiosity. :-)
Great job Jeff. Keep up the good work!
