    I have never scored any of my laps but I'm curious about how you've done it. If I understand correctly, you usually run CCW as marked on your lap and as the arrow shows but then you ran the other way for your scoring. The way I see it, when you are polishing with the score lines going as they are, the swarf will all run towards the centre of the lap rather than off the edge which I would think makes more sense rather than using dirty oxides to continue polishing. Am I missing something here ? Of course, swarf eventually runs off the lap. Are you trying to preserve it on the lap longer ?

    • @aresshahumyan1821
      @aresshahumyan1821 Год назад

      Hi there, You are absolutely correct the swarf will be moving towards the center. When it comes to plexiglass for polishing I like to score them this way since they tend to overheat and melt on top of the stone making it a nightmare to maintain a flat surface. (I like to speed up the motor to over 2000 RPM, which speeds up the polishing 2-3 times) This method improved the polish of my stones significantly and I stuck with it for years. That being said I'd love to hear your perspective :)

      @@micahhanley4899 Hi Micah. You absolutely can scrub the lab using soap and sandpaper wrapped around a block, but this may cause a lot of issues. Not because of different types of oxides but rather the different grits. All it takes is a single grit of course grit to ruin the finish. So I'd recommend using a lap per grit.

      These are the index for the that specific row of facets if you google for faceting machine index wheel you'll come up with some gears these gears are called the index wheel . Each index simply shows a facet. Most common index wheel is 96 which is what we have here . After setting the angle for that specific facet set you'll start cutting and changing the index simply going around the stone to complete that set.

    • @aresshahumyan1821
      @aresshahumyan1821 3 года назад

      Hello Abdul I'm so happy to see that you enjoyed the video. keep in mind we need the aluminum oxide to be solid if we dissolve the powder we will not get any friction and it wont work what we need is some kind of a courier for the powder that's why we use it as a paste . that being said you don't have to use it as shown in the video it can be used by simply adding small amounts of water to the powder and use it as a paste .in order to make what i have here you can use some kind of hand cream since they are water soluble and add about 5-10 percent powder . keep in mind using it with just water will increase friction and will cut faster and the cream since it will have some oils in it will cut slower i recommend using water only but keep in mind you need a constant stream of water so it will not dry and become airborne that can harm your eyes and lungs . I hope this was helpful let me know if there are any more questions.

The oil helps with the keeping the polish on the disc since oxide powder used only with water will wash away fast but if we use only oil the oil wont let water to get to the stone and cool it down and will break and get lower friction and will take a long time to polish the gemstone . But if we use a emulsifier that means we can combine water with oil there for making it both sticky and water can wash it away slowly and cool in down you can also use something premade like hand creame and add about 20-30% oxide to it and use it but kerp in mind you wont need alot of water .
