3 Reasons NRIs Fear Moving To India | Return To India | Nupur Dave | Author Book: BACK HOME
This kid is smart and mature. Even if his perspective will change after a few years, like everybody's does, he has a great clarity of thought. Yes, these days kids everywhere are smart, but i feel kids in the US are all rounded. Our daughters were young when we moved to the US in 1993. One joined the 10th and the other, 6th. Schooling was a cakewalk for them at first. There are many reasons for that. Many people who move to the US, they feel it is very easy. The reason is, in the US, they don't know how prepared your child is for the class so they put them in the basic level. So it's very easy. But they have a very beautiful system and you hardly realise it. We don't have that kind of system in India. All levels in all subjects are herded together and taught. So somebody who is weak in a particular subject is bound to get a complex and the teachers add to that complex by publicly praising or putting you down, which is not good for children. So in the US, you have regular tests and if you do well, your level is promoted for that particular subject/subjects. You have about 12 levels for each subject in each class! Like my younger daughter was very good in math but not so good in English. ( i mean by American standards of English) So after a few months, she was put in 6- 9 for math but only 6-5 for English. Then as she got the hang of it, she was slowly promoted to higher level in both subjects but still, lower grade in social sciences according to her level. Unlike India, at no level a child is pressurised by the system or peer group. This way they flourish beautifully. However well our children may do in academics, the maturity, clarity is very different from ours. The parents there have no pressure but our Indian parents persuade their children to do well. So they excel academically. The intelligent quotient may be very high but the emotional quotient necessary for life, is not that great, of Indians. After 5 years we'r returned to India, leaving behind my elder daughter as she was in college. My younger daughter hated coming back and cried a lot, all the way to India. Everybody scared her by telling how she would manage in India, that too because she was going to be in twelfth. I decided not to pursue her to do well. She could at the most repeat the class. She managed to get a first class. But she was doing very well in public life. In her twelfth holidays i decided to keep her busy as i was working. She joined an NGO and took summer camp for kids for 2 months. She did so well, the governor of Maharashtra, Shri PC Alexander felicitated her. Yes she got the confidence from the American school system. She decided to be positive the day she landed in India, just like this boy. No complaint ever! And in two months she decided that there was no place like India. India is her true home. She now lives in India, whereas my older daughter is in New York, loves New York! Siblings but complete different opinions. Another thing is, the school system believes that children should enjoy life in school. Suddenly after high school, the level changes. College is very serious matter. Children don't wear fancy clothes unlike in school. They work and pay for their college. They really work hard. All in all, they enjoy their childhood.
are you married and have kids?
1. Entire west (specially G7) is in societal decline 2. Read up on "dedollarization" excellent videos by Dr Ankit Shah (he has been talking on this a while) 3. The great migration predicted (most NRI Indians will be back in India in the next 5 yrs or so) once the west completely goes through a financial reset and INR appreciates wrt US dollar (over time) and as IT and banking sector lay offs increase 4. Better quality of life in the eastern countries and gradual decline of QoL of western countries, great food, no school shootings, live with ones aged parents 5. Leading role of BRICs nations in speeding up the dedollarization process 6. Get back to our roots of sanatana dharm and forget the failed Abrahamic religions 7. Interestingly Ramayana and mahabharata become more relevant once one grows spiritually and financial growth is not as important
I am one of those FIRE guy planning to move my base to Bangalore from US early 2025. Resonate with all those points you mentioned. Guess I would be living both in the US and India. Start a consultancy like yours when I reach Bangalore :)
If you don't like Indian schools ,please don't come and study here, Nobody asked you study here.
Less amd less american ???? Were you a citizen of usa 🇺🇸
Nri is non resident indian not citizen of usa nri has to go back what is the big deal about it..if you lose your job you will have to go back 😉
NRIs moving back to India don't leave your shit here , move all of them back with you .
There's a saying in Marathi, "Soi titkichh gairsoi" (conveniences are balanced by inconveniences). So we need to accept that Life will not be a happy big commercial Ad with constant smiles in a golden light. There will be instances of that once in a while, with dark patches and a lot of humdrum life in between. Life is about "trade-offs". Can't be in 2 boats at the same time for long periods. Need to make a choice and move on.
Indians have access to so many resources today compared to the past. One can order many of the international reference books in India. RUclips videos from across the world. The gap is reducing fast. Key difference is in applied vs theoretical approach. Understand the "who, what, how, why, when and where" of every thing you learn in applied as well as Theoretical ways gives a complete education. This requires loads of free time which is not the case with traditional educational system based on rote learning. Extra curricular work in applying what you learn will make the whole difference. Today you get kits to make drones, electronic circuits etc or you can make from scratch as well. programming is another avenue that's very much possible. Today you have NIOS so homeschooling is possible to try out all these different ways of studying from New resources.
You all have lived in India earlier, so need tips, you already know the people, environment. Western ? Have u suddenly in few years, you need councelling???
How does an nri kid has a thicker Indian accent than my Indian friends
1:03 / 1:19 what do you mean??🫣
Frankly speaking I am not finding any advantage of this method of learning.. they are not thinking about emotional growth of that kid.. parents are looking their comfort and money
Quite the contrary. There are dark sides to education there too. People just don't talk about it openly. "Grass is greener on the other side". No parent will put extra pressure on their child just like that unless there's a solid reason behind it.
He already has the heads hake he will be ok
Stop these kind of comparisons
Living in America means loving western values? I live in India but I love western countries. I am ready to learn from whites
I lived in Germany for twenty years. After coming back to India. First few years were difficult but now I would say India is the best. Advice to NRI people. Earn as much money in the Foreign country you live and then come back to your motherland to live a happy and respectful life.
Sohum politely told that education in India is screwed and his parents would be spending old age in a retirement home if they ever tried something even remotely similar to his horrible experiment😂
I am agreeing his view on core subjects especially maths because I am from Bihar and here I remember my cousins who were having mathmatics calculation on fingertip it was really fast though my cousins were bit weak in English when it comes to grammer and speaking . Sorry I didn't mentioned I studied in varanasi(UP) was staying with my Nana-Nani and was going in summer vacation in Bihar to meet cousins and brothers.
Very interesting to hear this young boy's perspective. Lovely interview.
If he like USA so much, parents should not pressure him to study in 2 different countries
we only see the bright side of the picture from here. there are many dark sides there as well.
His initial years were in US so his foundational culture is American. Obviously he would find that better and would have an aversion for Indian systems.
wondering whether the child studied in private school there?
I went to IIT and MIT. I can say MIT was cake walk to the rigor I went through in India. This kid will get a new persprctive as he grows into higher classes
Do you think I can make it as an undergraduate architecture student to MIT? I am from CCA.
@@darrelldsa why not. Just see what it needs and work backwards in the amount of time you have.
@@bitsandpiecesmedia alright, that's great, but what do you think MIT thought about your application to MIT? What made you stand out? Besides good grades.
@@darrelldsa i don't know. Just show a balanced profile
First he needs to loose that typical Indian accent !
Smart kid. Parents must be proud. Btw the kid wants to go back to the US.
😂what a weird video! This kid has a thick Indian accent, he definitely hasn’t lived in the US more than a few months!! Come one guys! Viewers aren’t stupid!
His accent is thicker than my accent. I have never stepped out of India. However, the kid also said that he can change accents mid sentence, so I assumed this thick accent is him overdoing the Indian accent after he came to India.
If you say so 😊
like your perspective ❤
what about kids education ? I have seen many around me sacrificing the move. If you could cover this would be great.
Pls mention the schools' names in the 2 countries
India require talent, not nonsense
In US,they move slowly..After 5th-6th grade it’s harder..In English(ELA),it’s mostly grammar, creative writing/essays..no parrot reading for exams..Even in Social Study they just study the books at schools..Then write their own opinions about the historical facts in test.Math n science is difficult though..In US if the kids is in-to studies they will do great but rest will be always average n parents n teachers are fine with that too😅.In India you have to take pressure n work hard to do good in tests which makes kids discipline n hard worker. Here problem is different like no uniforms..Rich kids will always show-off with their fancy branded outfits, then makeups n all.Pre-teens n teens are under peer-pressure to look cool.In India in school all look same n equal which I love most.
Very well said. I have commented some of my thoughts and yours is my additional thoughts. 😊
My daughter is 12 n we thought of moving back to India but thinking how she will adjust with the education made us skeptical on this thought. She love India but scared of the teachers in India. Here teachers are very friendly n approachable..They will come to weak/special education kids for extra support whenever needed n those kids too have Teachers Assistant for extra support.
Hi Nupur, I moved India from USA in Nov 2018. I had plans to move back and start my own venture but initially I planned to setup Liquor manufacturing business; did analysed business in deep for 6 months than concluded lot of bribes to offer and overall project may not be done in 5 Cr investment. So I left it and started analysing Pipes & Fittings Manufacturing business. I started this since 2020 did setup took upto Aug 2022 to operationalise plant. Now its 2 years for the production going on but if I see the amount of $ I used to earn I am still no where in its comparison. This product has also become a commodity like item so margins are getting thin. Its basically not like some software startup which would have started with hardly 20 lakhs investment. Manufacturing industry is a bit of big amounts & lot of competition. Branding is also going on well but it still takes 10 years to build brand and so my patience is bit dropping compared to earnings I used to make. I have done MBA Finance, MBA Production Operations Mgmt from USA and also B.E. Production Industrial Engineering from leading institute of Mumbai University. Despite all of this doing full time & my wife is also Chartered Accountant full time we both are building brand but sometimes it gets frustrating. Need guidance how do I proceed ahead. Email: pipolepipes@gmail.com
This was quite an interesting conversation to hear. The kid seems super smart and mature. Also, the concept of putting your kid through different education systems is unique, definitely adds more to your kids personality. Exposure is the best education.
Hi
Baseball.. American Football.. Basketball... like piers morgan once said americans some how have managed to invent a few sports which they like to play and have declared themselves world champions..!!
Just give my 11th physics paper to this kid..!!
He's a kid studing in 6-7th grade. Wth are you even talking about?
@@eriol_h he himself said in the US their grades are way ahead ours so what I studied in 11th class is something he would be studying in grade 8th in the states
English is not our native language move on.. Btw my English teacher was an Anglo-Indian.
Which school district was he in the US? It looks like a nice one. I would really be interested
Actually I am unable to understand why such well educated Americans always need an Indian to run their business. Please convince ur parent to visit gurukul , u must take care of ur BMI report and might be able to nourish your accent
First of all its a wrong approach u are questioning a child who is used to US coaching for, 12 years instead a debate of an indian child vs NRI child of the same age with few questions testing skills wud widen the horizon. The basic thing wud be value-based education vs subject-oriented education. I had a known person who was bullied in US school to the extent the child jumped off from the balcony as she moved from india to US. Bullying is serious offense in India and punishable. Like soham said 25 mins he can take break but wat happens in that 25 mins no one knows
Totally agree..here in US also there is anti-bullying policy n there are councilor room.Any complaints can be kept private for the kids safety. There are cameras in every hall n bathrooms are in the classroom itself in most school. He just gave example that it’s based on trust. Most teachers tell not to use bathroom, drink water while important lessons but can use during writing activity or working on laptops.I am a teacher in US,so saying this.Kids are very respectful here too.
I think this is still not fully accurate comparison as he didnt study in public schools. In the US, especially in democratic states, public schools are way behind India's private schools. Students are not expected to submit their homework. They have no pressure, competition or any motivation to do homework.
Nice interview..even we r planning to move bk to india soon..since our daughter is in grade 6 and they teach absolutely RUBBISH in school
but does he know hindi grammer?why we will learn end here in india.does in USA they know hindi grammer.Psrents r wrong he will be confused so much crticism for india thera peple r so rude and emotionless
English grammer matters more than hindi grammer its not the language used in work space
Kids in US nowadays are preferring homeschool rather than school as they feel the standards are too low in US schools.
It's normal country! Not like a competitive country, India!
This is not cool, 6:08 in india we respect our gurus and extract knowledge from them, not just going on correcting them.India teaches people while being culturally respectful , he will be confused growing up, and why is the host laughing when is demeaning india, whats the point
The problem is it is hard for anyone to be balanced, be it teachers or students. If you give lot of authority to teachers, they may guide you in a wrong way or not guide you at all, and hide their incompetence behind authority. While if you give too much freedom to kids, they may correct the teachers just for showing off and be arrogant. The teacher should be able to admit mistakes and at the same time the student should respect the teacher to not correct them all the time. The mutual respect and trust needs to be built.
@@yaminiayachitamTotally agree..In India,in my college I corrected one of my my teacher when he used the term ‘single family’ which should be ‘nuclear family’.He was so mad at me even though I was respectful.Later he gave me very bad score when I did good on my test. Here in US,teacher appreciates n thanked the kid with a smile in such incident. Here students respect their teachers too..(BTW,I am a teacher in US)
@@nilamdas I understand the unfair treatment you had to go through, but I have seen students disrespecting teachers in the US. More than disrespect, they just dont care what the teacher says. Some kids feel entitled too. Anyway, good and bad is everywhere.
A guru need not be right always but problem with indian gurus and disciple's both think they can never be wrong 😂
There are many categories of people who "teach" totally different things. Adhyapak, Pradhyapak, Acharya, Guru. My high school teacher can't be made into a Guru just because they teach me X subject. My Guru can't be equated with just a teacher of X subject. In the English language, you only have words like teacher and professor. Though they do have similar (not same) terms they're not as much prevalent in common usage.
BTW, I dont understand, you became very popular with media coverage about your failed retirement story. How come your subscriber count is so low here? I thought you must have been a celebrity by now.
I dont believe you have enough money to FIRE. If you really had enough money to match your desired lifestyle, you wouldn't have regretted it is like just over a weekend. I feel mathematically your planning is pathetic. But you are extremely talented with high EQ than IQ, which is why you will probably be very successful in what you do, but you cannot FIRE. Your video is kind of a disservice to the FIRE movement, because you have not really understood and you were never meant for it in the 1st place.
This kid is so smart at such a young age! After watching this, I am convinced that kids should be in the US, they become so smart!
