WoodScrape
Великобритания
Добавлен 17 июл 2018
I Love wood...working.
A truly fulfilling hobby.
Hi there, and welcome to Woodscrape.
I started working with wood a few years ago and quickly fell in love with it. I have a small workshop at the bottom of my garden which is my hide away from the world LOL. I have ended up very much focused on fine wood working and furniture but still enjoy making random things.
I wanted to share what I make, so started this channel to show my love for this hobby that has kept my head on straight for the past few years.
I want to show people that living with mental and chronic illness can be made a much less lonely place with a hobby that keeps you occupied. My projects take me a varied amount of time because of chronic and mental illness but aim to release a video shortly after completion.
The items I make are not for sale. This is purely a hobby, and this channel is a way for me to show what I make.
Please feel free to comment and I'll do my best to reply.
I hope you enjoy my channel.

Easy Plywood Storage Boxes for my NEGLECTED Veritas Hand Planes | A Short Overview
Просмотров 4343 месяца назад
Just a Quicky - TURN YOUR VOLUME UP! Veritas Hand Tools are expensive and i'm finding that they are starting to get a bit tool box wear and tear. That needs to stop. In a previous video, I designed a parametric box on Autodesk Fusion that could easily be altered to suit other tools. All I have to do is alter the saved X Y & Z dimensions and it all adjusts acordingly. I've done boxes for my Veri...
Making simple Plywood Hand Tool Boxes - for my NEGLECTED Veritas Hand Tools
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.4 месяца назад
My Veritas Hand Tools have started to be neglected and part of that is down to me not storing them correctly. I decided to start off by designing a parametric mitred box that can be altered easily in the future. Made with 6mm Baltic Birch Plywood and with strengthening splines from Walnut. Finished with Shellac Sanding Sealant. The box is to house my neglected Veritas Bar Gauge set that I use t...
Designing & Making an ESSENTIAL Workshop Modification... because i'm TOO SHORT

The only space i had for my workshop extractor (Record Power DX5000) was high up on the wall, and because i'm a not the tallest person out there, and my medical issues stop me being able to reach up there, I needed to design ( with Autodesk Fusion ), mark out using LightBurn and a Ortur Lasermaster2 and then cut out the pieces of Baltic Birch Plywood using my Record Power woodworking machines. ...

Amazing to see you my old friend! Great video. I love watching your videos, always very impressed with your work and editing 😁👍
Thank you for those kind words. It really helps keep me motivated.
This is a brilliant vid. Thanks so much.
You're most welcome. Thanks for the view and comment

Lots of Rebates. Thank you for watching

Good man, Thank you
I had been wondering how it got around the back of the Dovetail. As requested - REBATE
Thank you
That's satisfying!!
yup!
Wow...
They're hard but fun to do
That is an awesome piece that you created. Thanks for sharing.
Its very kind of you to say, thank you
Great video. When flipping the square and marking I could see you contorting around with your right hand. I would recommend practising marking with your left hand. It is not as hard as many think. It takes a few goes and you will be doing it much more easily than when always trying to use your right hand even when it is very uncomfortable. It also enables more accurate marking - when contorting around with your right hand it is easy to hold the pencil at an angle accidentally and getting inaccuracies due to the error of parallax.
Yeah i'm not great with my right hand these days as I dont have feeling on that side. I've been told to start learning to use my left more but i've been fighting it a bit. I should put more effort into doing it. Thank you for your constructive advise and views. Much appreciated
Very nice marking knife.
Thank you
Inspirational video Neil. You mentioned that you went to an evening class for woodworking, do you have any details? I'm looking for something just like that but struggling to find anything. Not sure where it's based but fingers crossed it's close by me too. Keep the videos coming 👍
Hi. Thanks for your view. It was in Oxford - Rycotewood
Nice work!!! To check the base for square: set base on its side against a stop, mark along inside, place brass stock against the stop, flip base and set against the stop, mark along inside again.
i'll give it a go. thanks
Angle gauge.
hadn't thought of that. I'll add it to the list
How about a wood encased tape measure reel and chock line marker. Copy the dementions of both. Delete the seem add a new joint with all side getting dove tales. Each side a different kind as a sort of demo. You caget really unique tapes. Cunt hair (which is real but old ) certified accurate and stuff
Hey, this is cool. I'd loke to see you make a very expamsive tool kit.
I'm thinking about a marking gauge next. Thanks for your views and comment
0.00 - 2.17...Surely this is just a normal dovetail? 2.18 - 2.40...Ooh! that's clever.
I've seen others cut it at the 45 degrees... I'm not that accurate lol. Thanks for your views and comment
Love how punk started in the UK, reverberated across the globe, and now the UK rocks to the brilliant echo of punk that is Green Day. Music is awesome. Crank it up, brother!
The 90s were a great decade for music. Thanks for the view and comment. great to talk to people
Cool!
I might do a new video of this. This was one of my first
Just got your video on my feed. I have been subed for awhile now but haven't seen anything as of late. I also have about 200+ subs on youtube so that may be the issue. I think that people don't like to have too many subs because It could be that they just don't care. I look at it like this: I want everyone that puts a video on youtube to eventually get monetized and earn money. I cannot imagine but have heard on videos that it takes ALOT of time to produce a video, good or bad so my thinking is give em a like and subscribe because they have produced something that has taken time and money. I may not get something out of a video but more times than not I have gotten tons of info and knowledge. I am retired and have been a woodworker for along time but I learn everyday something about it. I wish you the best and especially better health. Remember in the dark what God told you in the Light.
thank you for spending the time to view and comment. Its good to hear from people. Ive done 6 videos over the past few months and things have only just picked up a bit. I'll see how it goes but i will keep going. Just need a new project now!
@@WoodScrape I am in the process of moving but the next project I will do is a mallet. I have watched several vids on making a mallet but haven't landed on one particular style. Thanks for the response.
Talent!
Thank you for your view
Subscribed. Keep your chin up mate! I’m going back through your old videos to watch a few as well.
Ah thats great. Thank you
I've liked, subscribed, and now I'm commenting! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for such a lovely video! Cheers!
Ah thank you. Much appreciated
It's been highlighted to me that I actually used quite a few expensive machines. Ok, yup! I used some machines. Lets go over them; The vacuum chambre that was used to stabilise and dye the wood - At no point do you need to stabilise wood to make a square. However, if you want to, I purchased this very cheap set-up from Ebay about 3 years ago for under £80 but I just checked and found one for £90. Inflation eh! I also mention in the video that you should get a more expensive one as mine is already cracking. The oven - Not toooooo sure what to say about that. The Pillar drill - Ok yes, thats a machine! That particular one is about 90 years old and it cost me £15 from a carboot sale. What if I had used a cordless drill? Would that be a machine? Should I have used a hand egg whisk drill maybe? Lets adress the most expensive machine I used. - The Laser Engraver. I appologise, as I should have mentioned this in the video, but YOUR square will work just fine WITHOUT a logo laser engraved onto it. I'm very sorry to be miss-leading. I have now amended the title of the video to be more accurate and less missleading. Thank you for your views
"By hand. No expensive machines" I saw quite a few.
Well I'm very sorry to disapoint you Brett
Awesome video editing, and of course Yay to Greenday! 🤘I have a chronic pain disorder so I know it’s impossible, but I hope you get to feeling better
Thank you for your views and comments. It’s nice to hear back from viewers
Very nice i could do with a laser not good with tech though lol
They’re not too bad to learn

Thanks for a great video!🇦🇺👴🏻
Thanks for the view. New video this saturday.
Hi Neil, just came across your channel and added you to my subscriptions, Love the content and presentation style, you have a natural flair for presenting and you kept my attention. Also love the mix with music and for me seeing the presenter is subconsciously essential, My wife has chronic illnesses also so I can relate to your symptoms and admire your honesty for sharing. Your positive attitude is commendable. Long may your channel continue.
Thats very kind if you to say. Thank you
Nice idea with the locator pins.
Thanks.Ive now made some more for some of my hand planes. Ive done a new style video for it, Should be released in a wek or two.
I have actually already made more boxes for other tools. Video is edited and uploaded just wont be released for a few weeks for obvious reasons. What other tools should I make them for?
Nothing like making storage boxes, although i must be honest my pc skills resemble a demented chimp at a keyboard
I've made more already, and made the video, just not released yet. Thanks as always for your encouragement.
Admire you just carrying on. Well done 🇨🇦
Thank you
Hi neil, I PRESSED THE BUTTON 😁 right onto a point i wanted to make youtube is a horrible place with very odd people just saying,as can people can be in the real world and be complete d,heads like me you and many others you fall into a catch 22 if you dont explain your illness to people so they understand why you do things like you do your classed as living in denial, If on the other hand you do explain the response is mixed 50/50 those who LISTEN and those that dont and think its a sympathy vote your looking for sadly. I myself have MS and struggle with many of the same thing as yourself but enjoy my woodwork efforts. People need to not let a illness define who they are but work with it as you have done. liked and subscribed
Hi, Thank you for the lovely comment, I just got to the point where it was just easier to tell people rather than let them speculate. If I was gonna start being in the videos, then the scars where going to become apparant and I'd rather beat people to the post on it. Invisible illnesses are hard thing to get support for as the only days that healthy people see you, are on rare days where you can actually stand for a few mins at a time or go out to the shops, and thats all they see, not the 99% of the time you are hidden away at home unable to do anything for yourself. They just think the 1% they saw is how you are all the time. I'm sure you can appreciate this, having MS yourself. I don't think that will ever change but I find that by telling people (probably far too much over sharing) they just accept it rather than letting them guess. Anyway, thank you for you views, comments, likes and subscription. Very much appreciated.
Computer skills are incredible 😮 (as well as the amazingly detailed fabrication of course!)
I love a bit of CAD
very nice wonderful video🌈💐✨💫🙏
Thank you!
Me and Mike just watched your video. Really impressed. Still got the bowl you made me for my 40th birthday BBQ. 😊
really enjoyed watching the process, I would be happy with that result!
Thank you. I keep meaning to have another go. New video out this friday
Great video Neil. Proud to be your Aunt. Ivor was very proud of you too. You're doing a great job and, like me with my Art on IG, it takes time and consistency to grow your followers with your videos. Keep it up and you'll reap the benefits. X
Thank you xx
Was already a subscriber and still am, looking forward for the next one 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Your a great man no need to worry about anything ignore all the hate. The world's come to people hating on others for no reason your a unbelievably nice man and your work is amazing your a very sociable character and your very smart when it comes to certain things stick to what you love ignore what others think about you
Thanks Jay
I think your projects are phenomenal! As someone who also suffers from Fibromyalgia, and arthritis- I’ve also taken up woodworking, and I suppose Matt Esley teaches me indirectly. I watch his videos. But do what you feel comfortable with, go your own pace, film how you want, add whatever music you want- I’m so appreciative that you share them- you inspire me to do good work. I’m nowhere near your level, but you do inspire me to do as best I can, and that there’s nothing wrong with asking for help. Keep up the great work! 🌟
Thank you for your continued support and your very kind comment
Sorry to hear all what you’ve gone through, Neil. Good luck with all your projects. Debbie B x
Thank you Debbie. hope you are well
As someone with a chronic illness myself, thank you for being open about it. Representation matters! Looking forward to your future projects, and you being in the video's is absolutely the right call.
Thank you for the comment and views, it means alot. I've been making a few videos over the past few months, so will have a few to release soon
Like I said in the video, this isnt meant to be a "poor me" video. It is purely meant to give you all an idea about who I am, what I do and what i'd like to do. My life is very different to most peoples. I would love to get the coments flowing on my videos and would like your feedback please
Happy to meet you and glad to hear you’re sticking with this endeavor as you’re a wonderful woodworking talent for sure. I subscribed right when you started the channel by recommendation from Matt Estlea. Also looking forward to seeing what other project types and shop improvements you make.
thank you for your views
Great video mate - well said! Look forward to the future videos!
Thanks for the views. I have a couple of videos ready to go so there will be a few over the next couple of months
