@@StevanOutdoorI feel like I’m missing a prytool. Considering replacing the wave with the Surge and ditching the Bolt Cutters for a mini pry bar. Thanks for watching.
@@kaisermojica4216 I don't have bolt cutters but I do have a mini pry bar and that's more versatile.
Let's camp in the yard tonight
Don’t complain about appearance, performance is more important. Hand forged tools are not always “perfect” if you want perfect go with a cheap drop forge axe. I prefer hand forged because no two axes are alike and I use the heck out of my axes and hatchets, that little indent is nothing to complain about since a hawk is not for heavy duty work hawks are more of a light duty small chores type of tool. In other words it would take heavy abuse to brake at that point.
There was nothing wrong with that hawk, it was beautiful but you did said you are new to axes, experienced axe users would’ve never complained about something like that on the opposite it’s what makes it unique!
@@schzlorena thanks for watching and commenting, do you have any experience with the 2 hawks woodsman? Or the Goshawk from H&B Forge, I am considering purchasing one now that I have more realistic expectations.
That pliers design is signature of Spanish Aitor knives.
@@4423reborn will have to look into that thanks for sharing, I like this design
Cold steel is a project hawk. And not 1/1000th what an H&B forge is. Difference in a Chevy and a Lamborghini. One’s production one’s custom-made. Both of them get you from point A to point B. H&B Forge has a 1095 bit. Which is gonna last about three times longer than cold steel. The whole thing on them is 1055 on cold steel
@@aprilnichols2806I have heard this from many reviewers, in the case of the one I received and shown on on this video I pointed out that it has what I consider is a flaw. The reason I posted this video is to gain perspective from H&B axe or tomahawk owners. It seemed very thin on one side of the head and there is this dead space in the eye. Is this to be expected with H&B Forge Tomahawks or is this one a lemon? It also does not have the H&B Stamp on the cheek. I would like to know your thoughts on that aspect. I appreciate your comment regarding the differences in Cold Steel and H & B brands. With my particular Tomahawk is this what I should expect when it costs 3 times the price of the Cold Steel? You say it’s 1/1000th of the quality, that is certainly not the tomahawk I received. You gave the analogy of A chevy vs a lamborghini, what if you received a lamborgini which had flaws coming from the dealership, would you keep it just because of the brand or would you not expect the company to deliver on what you paid for. I don’t understand why the knife, axe and gear community does not allow for criticism on their favorite brands? In my case I received my lambo and it’s missing features I paid for the very features you and many other H&B Forge owners love, I do not think I received the same quality and finish you have in your hawks in this particular tomahawk. For transparency I was planning to keep the hawk and give it a fair shake but after seeing it was not even stamped with the H&B Forge Logo I returned it. I am waiting for a replacement and will review that. Thanks for watching.
@@kaisermojica4216 you’re expecting way too much for blacksmith forged $150 tomahawk. This as a blacksmith myself. Your cold steel tomahawk is $25 for a reason. They are dropped forged which means they won’t hold an edge. Because they don’t align the grains. In a plant in China for $.25 each. Versus yourH&B forge that has a 1095 bit forge welded into a 1055 head. If you don’t like it, return it. And you can have something else produced by a communist country. For pennies on the dollar. Versus something that one person forged by hand. There’s a premium attached to that. If you want a blacksmith forged Tomahawk. That’s going to be perfection. You need to get ahold of Mark Mccoun but you’re going to pay between 500 +
@ that’s what I wanted to know, I did return and will order a new hawk but will likely be the goshawk instead. I appreciate your candid response and will have a more realistic set of expectations with the new one. Thanks again for watching.

As part of my training and recreation I walk my dog 900 to 1,100 miles a year. I need water and his bowl, then the pack got filled up. Some stuff is strictly emergency and hasn't been used, some is used quite often. I have my pocket knife and a larger fixed blade in the pack. spare socks, extra leash, shoelaces, poncho, ankle wrap, knee wrap, bandaids, water, in summer up to 5 liters, extra hat, gloves, a scarf in winter. some cord, the mylar emergency blanket, some hand tools rather than a multi tool, a compass for off trail, a couple carabiners, some strap material and adjustable clips some dog treats, One thing about carrying heavy items in a pack is that they will wear out the cloth or stitching in a lot of packs. I am now padding my pack under the steel water bottles.

I've never had any issues or problems with the tip of it, play the drove it into all kinds of different hardwood and smacked the side of the handle with a branch and the tip is still perfect I've even done the nail test were you smack the back of the spine with a hammer to cut a nail in half and not a single mark on the edge. Im a little disappointed in this review but i do enjoy your videos
@@jasongrooms8200 Glad to hear yours have no issues. That’s amazing to hear considering you cut through a nail with no issues. I actually have a chip on my SCHF37 shown in this video will have to show a close up. I was batoning on the ground and hit a couple of pebbles. Was able to sharpen her back up to a working edge but you can still see it when you look at the edge. Anyway thanks for watching. Which version do you have by the way the 1095 or the 8cr13mov version?
@kaisermojica4216 I have the 1095 version but when I first got it I took the powder coating off the blade and re heat treated it. It's a beast of a knife and I love the hollow gring
@ I wish Schrade would rerelease these in 2025 since technically the official release was I believe in 2015 they should do a 10 year Anniversary and have both Kydex and Leather Sheaths as options I would not mind paying a little extra for Kydex I think they could still sell these knives for as low as $60-$80 which is still $70-90 less than it’s competition in the Kabar, Esee and Tops brands.
They make a 8Cr13MoV High Carbon too, its just more expensive but is supposed to be stronger
@@jasongrooms8200 which one is more expensive and supposedly stronger? 8Cr13MoV is a High Carbon Stainless Steel as far as I know similar to Stainless Steels like 440A and 440C. 1095 is a Carbon Steel similar to those used by ESEE, Tops and Kabar.
Nah get you a schrade Frontier
@@jasongrooms8200 that’s actually the next video thanks for watching
Like the next video you are making? I think there's 2 different versions of the frontier
@ I will be posting a video on the SCHF37 and SCHF52
@@kaisermojica4216 awesome I'm excited to see that video. When will you be posting it so I can look out for it? I've had the 1095 version for about 10 years or so and have put it through hell. I mean I haven't tried to destroy it but it's had some good torture test, only thing I've ever had to do to it is run it over my leather belt to bring it back to shaving sharp.
I’ve got the strongarm in black and love it. Super sturdy, well balanced and feels awesome in the hand
This knife reminds me of a cold steel srk. I would definitely buy one of these for $125.
Gosh I put this on my wishlist as soon as it came out, handled it in a couple stores, but it came and went before I could pick it up. I went on a hunt yesterday and it would have been the perfect knife to carry. Nowadays I feel it would be too expensive. Was about 95$ in 2016.
@@dannzalbjorklund absolutely wish I purchased the bolo as well when I had the chance, hoping for something similar to come to the market in the near future. Thanks for watching.
50 bucks is *wild* for about 75 cents of kydex, 20 cents worth of rivets and about five minutes work.
AWESOME! 👍
I got the st-11 awhile back & mentioned it to Legion Tacticool in his comment section & he requested it & actually did get one for a review a lil while back. And you're right, the handle is a lil small but I wrapped mine with some grip tape & it feels way better in hand now & it helps to protect the grip scales some but overall, I like it. I've beat the crap out of mine & it is a tough knife. I also put a convex edge on it. Big improvement, for me anyway. Good tabletop review. I like the black on black on yours. 👍
@@LiveTrueorDieTryin76 So far I am impressed by the craftsmanship and the overall value, I used to pay $45 for Kydex sheaths alone on a couple of knives I purchased from US makers where sheaths were not included will post a video of some examples. Thanks for watching.
@kaisermojica4216 your absolutely right. I get surprised, on occasion, from the quality of some knives not made in the U.S. . A great example is a poshland bowie that my wife got me on father's day last year. The reg-109 I think, on Amazon. I was really shocked at the sheath & the knife. It's nicer than some high end stuff I have. Preciate the work you put in. I know it's a hassle at times but videos like yours & others give us input that's helpful in our purchase decisions. Thanks again..
People really need to do some better research those are not finger choils those are sharpening choils
@@ronfry5851 understood, it may just be a sharpening choil as you say, but I do have knives of similar size that do have finger choils. Having a finger choil on a knife this size would allow for better control of the blade with certain tasks. Check out @legiontacticoolcutlery he has a thorough review and says the same thing about having a finger choil. Thanks for watching.
I just found out it turns out this was indeed designed as a finger choil as the ST-11 is a copy of the Work Tuff Gear Elbrus. www.worktuffgear.com/product-page/elbrus-slick-coat-sk85-blk
