    This system is total shit. If you’re after energy efficiency then use tpo with at least 5 inches of iso or if you’re after a redundant durable system go with a four ply hot mopped sbs system consisting of 2 layers of base sheet one layer of interplay and a cap sheet. Roof it right or don’t roof it at all. This roof doesn’t even have a proper r value. Better systems exist.

    Insufficient fastening, fasteners inside the 6 inch area of board edges. No increase in fasteners at corners and perimeters. For instance if the fastener rate was 1 per 2 square feet, that is 16 per 4’ X 8’ board. Corners would get a 75% increase or 28 per board and perimeter is 50% increase or 16. This is as deemed by Factory Mutual, and the NRCA ( National Roofing Contractors Assoc). Typically on a 2 story commercial bldg without parapet walls this translates to 12 foot square corners and 8 foot in along the edge between the corners. Non of that was offered or shown in this video. Numerous other mistakes were made also. If your going to make a video DO IT RIGHT.

    Hello, I'm trying to learn about different roof systems in Belgium. How did you handle possible condensation problems in the insulation? I didn't see any installation of a screen between the steeldeck plates & the insulation. Thank you for the information! BR, Gilles

    No hardhats? I know it doesn't make sense since you are on a roof but it does provide shade on your head and potential hazards of tools or material that may hit you unexpectedly. Stay safe roofing bros haha

    Looking back on this thread a year later I knkw for a fact the kid who's arguing with me about vapor barriers hasn't applied even 1 Tremco Burmastic cold applied Built up roof ,I run the spray wand just like this installer does ,from side to side because it's fast as hell but don't let Tremco see you spraying from side to side ,Tremco requires the spray to be installed in 2 separate passes ,the 1st pass runs directly down the seam ,leaving no lines to follow ,then the 2nd pass covering the back half of the insulation ,just like the way rolls are hot mopped ,any certified Tremco installer would know this ,aside from improper work clothing and little silly shit these guys installed a text book cold process SBS modified roof ,prolly the best non union install I've seen .

      Michael Ledford And you know when setting the plies it lays better upside down. Was in a truck once “still dark “ walking over the barrels of burmastic. Some one but a barrel in with no lock ring along with lid not sitting flat. Well lid slid my leg went in up past my knee. Give me derbigum any day.

    Not so Stephen. A vapor barrier is used only over cold storage facilities or areas with high humidity under the roof deck. you can check this on Gaf or JM Web sites.

    first he didn't put a vapor barrier so condensation will destroy the iso insulation, second on steel deck you need a thermal barrier/auxiliary leveling surface ( drywall ) before your iso

    • @michaelledford4751
      @michaelledford4751 9 лет назад

      +Stephen Gallant who taught you how to roof ? vapor barriers are not " needed " or " required " or even recommended on metal decks , unless the building has serious thermal issues causing thermal shock on the substrate , such as buildings like auto garages that go from hot to cold a dozen times each day , as for drywall or " Densdeck" being needed that is also false , drywall & dens boards Are only required where a class A insurance fire rating is required , drywall & dens boards can be substituted for hardboard or fesco but are not required , and drywall & dens boards require full priming before application of cold process so not much incentive to use an inferior insulation unless the class A fire rating is required . As for walking on fresh plays get real , I'll bet I've sprayed on well over 100,000 squares of Tremco & Garland cold process roofs where 100% daily completion is mandatory , meaning workers MUST flash curbs & walls, set dumps & flash pipes , then gravel daily , the only reason to wait 30 days or longer is in the case of a Top Coat application vs gravel , and even then the wait time isn't due to possible bitumen displacement from foot traffic , that's just stupid , the wait time is so the solvent within the bitumen has a chance to " flash off " so as not to cause " Brown Out , which is discoloration of the top coat . This company did a text book installation with quality material & workmanship , you just wanted something negative to say , I'm a 32 year card holding journeyman roofer & waterproofer with local 149 Detroit & I find zero faults with this company's installation methods , nice work guys . On a side note , instead of sweeping & removing your rock using expensive labor look into industrial vacuuming services , the service we use sucks all gravel off any roof for $8 to $10 a square , and they get rid of the gravel themselves , on BUR tear offs they can clean over 200 square a day & on ballasted single plys about 100 sq per day , it's a massive labor saver not having to handle any rock before tear off .

      +Michael Ledford well first the conditioning unit on the roof seen makes me believe that this is a heated building and a change of temperature causes condensation on the warmer side of the insulation.when isopolystyrene is exposed to moisture it breaks down prematurely so unless you're south far enough that its always hotter outside this is a recipe for trouble I'm from Canada and a Red Seat journey man Roofer but lol what do i know people can check this out for themselves at the crca site also what is going to happen to the main membrane of this roof when the iso breaks down on q deck without a solid leveling surface lol I've never seen this done ever

    • @stephengallant3490
      @stephengallant3490 9 лет назад

      +Michael Ledford and p.s our tremor inspector requires a vapor barrier on any heated building with insulated roof for a material warranty but what do i know lol tremco site will confirm this maybe you should think about reading up on the product you use

    • @michaelledford4751
      @michaelledford4751 9 лет назад

      Stephen Gallant No need for me to read up on Tremco specs because I've gotten over 50 perfect 10's , just because " your Tremco salesman " sells the building owner a vapor barrier so he gets a bigger commission does not mean vapor barriers are industry standard , because they are not , its 100% wasted cash putting a vapor barrier on metal decks not experiencing extreme thermal shock , any building with proper HVAC climate control keeps humidity at or under 30% , now explain exactly what 30% humidity is going to do in a heated building , acoustical metal deck ( holes in deck flues for sound absorption ) need vapor barriers , type A & type b metal decks do not require vapor barriers , are you even aware there are different metal deck types ?, me thinks your a 1st year apprentice or helper , surely not a journeyman or master such as myself because your statements show ignorance of the trade , just like your comments about needing drywall with the insulation , do you even know what products are needed for a factory mutual class A rating & when they are needed ? as a test of your knowledge explain factory mutual approved systems like Tremco , Garland , Siplast , Koppers etc to us all & we''ll take it from there . Every commercial & industrial roof system is a different animal , there are few hard nailed specs for any particular roof deck ,with exceptions to acoustical deck needing " Twinkies " & gypsum & Tecktum decks , system components vary greatly with building conditions & system needs , you sound like you have just recently started working in commercial & industrial roofing , I highly doubt you've completed the 3 years school needed to acquire a journeyman card & surely don't have 32 yrs as a journeyman , what's your local Tremco reps name anyway ? I'm currently being sought as an inspector for several agencies now that I'm retired & possibly know the man .

    • @michaelledford4751
      @michaelledford4751 9 лет назад

      I'm in Michigan not far from.Canada so conditions are irrelevant , once again explain how condensation can accumulate in a HVAC building where there is no thermal shock , without thermal shock there is no possibility of condensation forming , these are basic issues dude . Since you claim to be a journeyman I'll explain thermal shock condensate to you in a different way , we all know a non insulated METAL expansion joint will leak like hell in some cases but not all , in the hot months & drip all over when it's not raining , why do you think every non insulated metal E joint don't leak in the hot months ? the answer is an insulated ceiling , or plenum ,.if heat is absorbed before it touches cold air condensate can't form , heated buildings decks are the temp of the building , the staggered inso separates hot interior air from cold exterior air , therefore thermal shock is impossible , except in cases where building interior temps have dramatic swings from cold to hot to cold from large doors opening &.closing constantly , like warehouses & auto garages , buildings like office &.schools have.zero use.for vapor barriers .

    OSHA wouldn't say anything about the shorts or shoes.. That's up to employer protocols. I only know that because we just had or meeting recently and I brought it up. OSHA doesn't require jeans or boots for roofers. It is encouraged but not required. Also did you know you don't need harness's if you can prove infeasability? It would only be for short durations though. But if you're installing a window from inside the home you need to be in a harness and tied off?! To what?? The homeowners wall

      Have you ever worked on a reflective roof? I have. One crew decided to wear shorts and some of them ended up in the hospital with burns on their legs. Also, I have a background in the cold process roofing business dating to the 70's. You better make sure what chemicals are flashing off with the materials you are using. Cold process evaporates some interesting chemicals that are not compatible with human skin. Same story, crew without proper supervision wore shorts with a cold process coating and ended up with burns on their legs. Also, I don't know where you can put on a roof not secured to I-90. I never have. Almost every one uses Dade County, which is 90. Any school district, government job, or military will require this, as will most manufacturers warranties.

    Several items insulation not fastened to FM 1-90. Adhesive is being displaced because your walking on the plies causes "pressure leaks".You must wait at least 30 days minumum for system to cure. those are just few of what i noticed.
