This is the second oldest piece in this collection. It started life as a very conservative demonstration of chorale writing in a minor key for a theory class. What a playful counterpoint! If I were a student, I would make this my learning material.

Prelude in C Major kicks us off with a bit of energy both rhythmic and brightly coloured harmonies designed to test the mettle of any 12-tone equal temperament system.

The first Invention in this series foreshadows the rest of the work in that a fan of Bach's inventions will find much that is reminiscent here, and yet will also be hopefully, pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of other disparate (and perhaps desperate) musical elements and influences.

As they say, it's hip to be square and augmented needs diminished like night needs day. Hopefully you will like this little ditty; it has some interesting counterpoint going on with some interesting augmentation. At several points the theme (motive) is playing simultaneously in different voices in 2 different tempos. If you are into the minutiae contrapuntal niceties this one might tickle your fancy ears a little bit. This invention is adorned with Perfect Octaves. An impartial listener or historian might even claim (quite fairly in my opinion) that I invented the octave. This one goes up and then it goes down, and then up, and down, and then sometimes it seems to go up while it is going down and then it gets a little bit slippery and recalcitrant. A very humorous and unexpected ending! It sounds to me like a sort of an afterthought that says, "Come on, you don't think I meant any of that seriously, do you?'
