    Hi! I like this pattern! However, for a new knitter like me, it would have been helpful to show how and when you changed out the cord and needle size. 😁

    Great tutorial. Just wanted to say that some of the time you were knitting you were out of the camera and we could not see you. Also what size cord are you using?

    • @exshawknits
      @exshawknits 10 дней назад

      Thank you! Yes unfortunately I noticed that too late. I really do need to purchase a higher table to film on because my back ends up really hurting and I adjust for the pain and that’s when I go out of view so I apologize. The cord sizes are listed in the free pattern- I have a link in the description. I’m not sure if you mean CO or when I do crown shaping because I use 2 different sizes. But you’ll find the info in the pattern! 😊🩷

      You’re very welcome ☺️ It can be intimidating at first but you got this! It’s just practice. When I taught myself the Norwegian purl stitch I made a blanket so I could get the hang out it plus it really helped with tension. Which made all the difference. Good luck! 💕

    I knit stockenette Norwegian Style. After I got the hang of it, I loved it so much better, but for me, when I purl, I guess you would call it picking. I just bring my yarn to the front, grab it and put through. So fast and easy. I think purling this way is fun, but no matter how hard I tired, I personally had issues with uniformity.

    • @exshawknits
      @exshawknits 23 дня назад

      Thanks for sharing! Yes, I also struggled at first to get a nice uniform look. I practiced with a blanket and that really helped with tensioning. But honestly if you enjoy purling the other way, I’d do that then. It’s all about enjoyment 🩷 So happy you found my channel!

  • @LeahBandB

    As a crocheter all my life, when I learned to knit, I went straight to Norwegian style and didn't even know it. I thought I was doing Continental. I've just never been a fan of having my fingers sticking in the air. For purling, I initially tried Continental purling and was like, "Absolutely not." Norwegian purling saved my knitting journey.

    These days many of us cant afford to live unfortunately. So being able to use cheaper uarns is great. I did fiind score in value village saturday. Someone donated bunch of 100% Norwegian wool and i found 5 bags of it for under $20 for all !!! Someone bought it in Norway cause labels are all in Norwegian and most of the yarns are now vintage. I felt like in that old ikea commercial whete woman yells at her husband start the car! after finding good sales at ikea lol I looked prices up and if i bought it all new it would cost me in ball park of around 350 cad.

    • @exshawknits
      @exshawknits 2 месяца назад

      That is so true!! Being able to make a sweater for 30 rather than nearly 200-300-400 is a big deal. Would I rather make with real wool? Of course but I can’t rn. SCORE!!! That would have been a good day! I remember that commercial 🤣🤣🤣 so funny! I know a little Norwegian (my grandparents) but not enough to read a label thank gawd for translators haha Enjoy your find!

    WOW, congratulations on your contract with Mary Maxim. My family lives about 15 minutes from their store in Paris, ON. We sometimes stop in when I'm visiting. So glad you found your direction. I'm not even close to being a designer and I have a hard time deciding on a theme. I have a mish mash of knits that don't go together but that's ok. As long as we enjoy the process! Happy Knitting.

      Thank you!! That’s nice and close. We’re about 7 hours from anything big. Being honest the more I use MM the more like LB especially their wool ease. Deciding on a theme is tough! And a mish mash would be less confining I think, more creative perhaps. But you’re right… the process is what’s important 💖

      A double wedding ring is gorgeous! If you enjoy the history of quilts (I do!) there are tons of books on them. I've read a few and found them fascinating. So many tell a story. Some even gave directions (safe passage) for slaves. Quilts are so rich in stories. I love that about them so much! Are you planning on sewing one of the patterns? No pressure... Hi Kim, I'm so inspired by your video. First, I love your pink Tee, that shade of pink looks amazing on you. Your white Tee is lovely but I agree the ribbed armhole is small, and for me, the scoop neck is too large. It's just my opinion. Otherwise, I love the white Tee so I would encourage you to keep working on it. It's such a classic style. Overall, your designs are classic and so my jam. I'm so not into designing so thank goodness for people like you who love to create patterns. You are such a kind soul and I hope you follow your dreams. Its also called russian or eastern european knitting. My mom knitted that way back in former Yugoslavia. I just knit through back loop and purl same as you did. With yarn always under needle. Women in russia in olden days created this way of knitting since its very cold there and they needed denser more sturdy fabric so this is how the twisted stitches kniting came about.

    Oh. My. Word. What a difference your video has made! I’m a crocheter who is trying to teach myself to knit. I was practicing Russian style, but was still struggling to achieve a smooth hand movement. Norwegian is so much easier! I’m still very rusty and loose, but I believe I’ll get it. Thank you so much!

      Yay!!! 🎉 Your tension will 💯 improve with practice! So no worries there. When I started this style I practiced on a blanket until I got comfortable and then I was knitting everything with confidence! You will too! Congrats! It’s a fun method 💖

    Does the purl stitch get stretched out? It seems like a lot of slack is needed. I'd like to use it for ribbing bc switching the yarn to the front every other stitch really slows me down

      At first when you’re learning I found that you need a little more slack but once you get the hang of it then no.
