      That's a great idea as you'll have lots of flowers to enjoy over a longer period. So long as you're using fresh compost in the container you should be fine planting everything now. We usually say wait with tulips until the colder weather to ensure any soil borne viruses are killed but in pots, this isn't much of a problem so long as the compost if new. Happy planting 👍

Thanks again :)

I have too much in my yard and due to work commitments/shift patterns as well I think I burnt myself out and needed a timeout, hence I've been quiet, sorry. The 2 Eryngium Neptune Gold which I moved due to over shadowing by a Salvia haven't liked the move and I think they're going to die. I had a load of Erysimum "babies" in the bottom of a large pot that contains a rose. I rescued the plants and put them in their own pots and they're growing away nicely. I've got about twelve plants all for free. I bought the original plant about ten years ago from B and Q and because they self seed, I have them every year. I can't understand why this variety comes through all the winters yet my Bowles Mauve didn't make it through a single one. Hope you're both enjoying your weekend. It's been lovely here the last few days so I've been outside. I tidied a huge section at the back of my garden which gets neglected and I had a little robin following me. He came really close and when I spoke to him he tilted his head from left to right as if he was listening. I had a robin a couple of years ago that did the same but he disappeared last year and a really unkempt one turned up in his place. I understand that they're very territorial. I like to think that the robin following me around is the one that disappeared. xxx

      @wendybartlett6717 That's wonderful Wendy, we love Erysimums for their lovely scent and long flowering period. We'll have to allow ours to set seed and see if they grow. We had a nice sunny day yesterday but today we've had showers and some thunder and lightning. Honey was a bit shocked with the loud bangs as it woke her up from a nice sleep. Robins are lovely gardening companions. There was one that was always around when my mum passed away and they do say say that when Robins appear, a loved one is near. Your little Robin might be the same one, just a little older and a little aged like us all! Have a great week Wendy, take care xxxx

      Thanks! When the cuttings have grown roots, they can moved to their own containers (if you took more than 1) I would leave planting in the garden until the spring at the earliest to give them time to grow on more. You could also leave them in pots and allow them to become larger plants before planting out if you wish. It just depends where you want to plant them and how much competition for light there is. Overwintering just means putting them in a sheltered place where they can be protected from the worst of the winter weather. We don't have a greenhouse, but that would be ideal. We use our summerhouse and our mini plastic greenhouses to help them survive the winter. The cuttings will be potted up when they have rooted and then placed in our mini greenhouse until the spring. Since you posted your video about euphorbia cuttings, almost each day I tell myself I have to do it (one of mines is struggling where it is so I figured I might as well take cuttings to start again fresh). I know seeds of echinacea aren't true to type but I wanted to try :) In september I'll let some dahlias go to seed to experiment with growing new varieties from seeds ^^ I tried taking cuttings from lupins and bleeding hearts but My plants are nit mature or in perfect condition so we'll see how this goes. xx

That's a shame about your gardening group organiser not thinking it was suitable. I'm sure many of the group would have loved to see it. Take care.

      Hi there, we don't bother cutting the old flowers as they age really well and provide some lovely vertical structure. The plant will continue to flower right into autumn without needing to be deadheaded. Thanks for watching 👍 😀

    Hello, again, thank you ever so much for your clear advice on how to plant seeds. l always bought seedlings from a nursery but never grown from seed, as l said. l did buy all sorts of seeds, and now when September ( your March) comes l will be busy planting seeds for our cut flower garden, we have planted twenty rose bushes plus a huge variety of perennials, also gladioli, and lilliums, alliums, lupins, and then annuals. if this garden does not flourish, l am becoming a nun! By the way, Melbourne is cold in Winter down to 0 degrees some days, but we have hot Summers...Again, thanks indeed for all your wonderful advice. Mario

      You're very welcome Mario. Hope this helps when you come to begin your seed sowing journey. Wow you have a lot of beautiful plants. I'm sure they will all flourish with the love and enthusiasm you give them. It's so interesting hearing about what others grow in different countries and climates. Good luck with your cut flower garden. Make sure you include sweet peas as you'll have a fresh vase full every few days they flower that profusely. Take care and thanks for your comments and subscription 🙏 😊

    Love this thank you so much. Going to give it a try as just been given some big planters and wasn’t sure what to put in them. Can I use old compost and not have to buy special bulb one ?

    • @MadAboutGardening
      @MadAboutGardening 13 дней назад

      You're welcome. Great idea to put your planters to good use in this way. There's no need to use a special bulb compost but if you are going to use old compost, we would suggest adding some slow release fertiliser to give it a boost. Bulbs should have enough energy stored to grow but it's worth giving them a little help to ensure you get a great display.

    Greetings from Melbourne/Australia, l just discovered your videos; they have been such a great help to us. l love your garden and your knowledge of plants, Like the boys in Denmark l got rid of the lawn and my partner and l are planting a cut flower garden, packed full of flowering plants, l am a retired florist, and l love flowers, but cut flowers have got so expensive that we are making our garden work.. From you, l have learned new varieties of plants, that l have never known but for some of the plants that you have, the only way l can find them is as seeds, l never planted from seeds before so wish me luck... Keep your RUclips videos coming, We are still in Winter so we are busy planting, hopefully by this Spring our garden may become alive and full of flowers. Thank you for all your advice.. Cheers, and thank you so much indeed, Mario

Wow, the cut flower garden that you are planting sounds amazing. We would love to see some photos of this as you progress. I absolutely love cut flowers and putting different flowers together. Lars and Allen are amazing in Denmark 😊 Growing plants from seed is exciting, I will add a link to our guide on sowing seeds we filmed earlier this year - ruclips.net/video/lsL7Uo2ot1o/видео.html Australia is an amazing place. I have family over there. Keep on watching and enjoying our videos. They are made with a lot of love. Happy Gardening from us 😊😊

    You are the King of cuttings Paul! Hope you survived the strong winds last night/this morning. I just had a few pots blown over but no damage. My brother had a tree come down blocking his lane and it's also taken out the phone lines so no internet which will kill him as he's always on-line. Must be a lot of people affected as his line won't be fixed until he middle of next week. I suppose living in the country puts you at the bottom of the list as you're not seen as a priority. Hope you both have a lovely weekend and manage to get in your lovely garden. xxx

    • @MadAboutGardening
      @MadAboutGardening 14 дней назад

      Thanks Wendy, that feeling you get making new plants is my favourite part of gardening as you know. The wind has been bad but luckily only some minor damage affecting a few stems on our cosmos plants. The sweet peas have been blown this way and that but seem relatively okay. That's awful what's happened near your brothers. Living in the country you would think more of a priority because of the remoteness and for security. It's been a busy week with one thing or another so very glad to finally be at the weekend. Fingers crossed for a bit warmer weather to come. It's really felt like autumn. Have a lovely weekend too Wendy xxxx

      Hi Tina, thanks so much! That's a shame about the stem but I'd give a cutting a try as you have nothing to lose. They root quite readily so fingers crossed for you. Take care and thanks again 😊

    You're right Paul, the Monarda does remind us of Fraggle Rock. Your container is very calming. I was in my garden for most of the day yesterday and the summer bedding is starting to look tired. I had to pull out the Mesembryanthemums which don't last that long anyway, and the hanging baskets are way past their best too but I'm clinging on for another couple of weeks with those. They don't seem to have liked these cooler evenings. I even had to put the lights on in the house as it was getting dark by 8.30p.m. Have you and Andrew ever been to Woolerton Old Hall? I've just found out that it's in Shropshire. Now that I've "done" David Austin's place I'd like to go there. We're supposed to be going back to Shropshire for another holiday next year so something to look forward to. Thanks for the video and take care. xxx

    • @MadAboutGardening

      We would have a lot more monarda if we could grow it without the slugs getting it, I just love the fraggle rock flowers! It's been feeling like autumn this past week, we have to get as much as we can for as long as we can out of the plants still flowering. It always surprises me just how quick the weather can change from day to day. The forecast for next week looks much better, so fingers crossed. Yes we've been to Woolerton a few times, in fact we went in August last year and filmed a video of all the wonderful flowers ruclips.net/video/1fWrnYmkDyQ/видео.htmlsi=IB30xJfaFwD6bJTF You will love the gardens there and they have a lovely tea room too and a small nursery. The dahlias were our favourite when we visited. That will be a lovely trip for you to look forward to. Xxx

    Hi Paul ! this monarda variety seems huge compared to the one I have ! But that height makes its flowers more visible. Question regarding this type of alliums: it's my first year growing milleniums and my question is: what do you do with the spent blooms ? If you cut them does it encourage more flowers ? Or do you leave them for winter interest ? Also your serendipity variety has a nice pink hue to it. Where are you gonna place this container ? Just being curious 😜😇

    • @MadAboutGardening
      @MadAboutGardening 17 дней назад

      Hi there, it's a lovely tall Monarda which is great for seeing the lovely flowers. We don't bother deadheading these types of alliums because they don't re-bloom and we like the structural seedheads through autumn and winter. I've placed the container along the side fence when it can get maximum sun 🌞 Thanks, take care 🙂
