Snowboarding in Chamonix just before the pandemic!
Thanks Marcin. I'm likely going there this coming January 2025 because my visa in Croatia is ending and I have to leave for a bit. I've had 4 winters in Split and I absolutely love it. A lot quieter, but the beauty of the town isn't diminished by a lack of crowds.
Thanks Marcin, some great tips there. I hadn't thought about the smoking thing.
Great video which answered our questions about visiting in winter! Do you have any Airbnb recommendations? We’re thinking about visiting for a month. Thanks again for such an informative video.
Okay me and my wife did many hikes about a month ago. This was by far my favorite then doe/bear point, however the vortex isn’t something I believe in
What type of apartment is available for $100/day
I would say quite a lot tbh. We were lucky to rent through friends but there's plenty to choose from on booking or other similar websites.
Great video! Where did you stay during these days and did you use a rental car to drive to your starting points? Best from Austria
We rented a house via airbnb in the western part of the island and rented a car using Top Car, a local canarian company which was spot on. Each day we drove to a hike and back, the roads are quite small since it's a small island so you have to count extra time for getting everywhere. On average we were at the starting point within an hour
we have our boat next to his not far from amsterdam. he’s really a very nice guy with pot of interesting stories
He's a great guy and a fun person to be around. Greet him from me if you see him soon!
Life is in scession with Capt. Hank! Ahoy Mate (always wanted to say that)😊
what a character, right?. Ahoy!
Sorry, you can only go anywhere you want if it's on the water without shallows on the route. What if you want to go to Lincoln, Nebraska? Then you have to rent a car and leave your boat on one of the coasts. I can go anywhere I want as long as I control my wants to places I'm equipped to go. That said, I'm jealous of your life. Cheers!
good point and yeah, life on a boat is just another level :)
Nice video, very informative. Is there indoor smoking everywhere in Tirana also?
Yes, it seems like it’s in all of the country.
Couldn't agree more with your live aboard philosophy. I don't like living on land anymore.
What a great video! I'm going to La Palma in January and I can't wait to explore the island, watching your hikes has made me even more excited 💛
Thanks! I'm super glad you enjoyed watching it and found it valuable! Have fun exploring La Palma! There's also so much more we wanted to see but weren't able to in such a short time
Werkt aan boord?om dit alles te bekostiging 🎉😂
Deep pockets. Money, money, money.
Everyones garage in heaven..........
totally!
To lose everything from childhood. Then come back Total Phoenix life. Great character. I can only wish.
Right? What a legend!!!
nice little video but you didn't think we's want boat tour ?? Thats all everybody wants !!
Next time!
lol 1 min in problem with the Anker a major problem for most people but not for captain hank just a short call .... gtfo
that was so unexpected but also so perfect
Thanks for sharing, brian in nz.
How do you afford it.
Part of the answer is he fixes everything and does all the maintenance himself and has always been working in the boat industry
The man is a legend 😊 🫡
totally agree with that! 🫡
Maybe someone can answer this question. When he disembarks and goes on the land, how does it work with immigration and customs? Does he have to announce himself or can he just walk off the dock and walk into any city he wants?
As far as I know if one arrives to any country via unguarded border one must present themselves to a nearest immigration office. that's what i had to do in central America but i arrived via land.
💦⚓️thank you for sharing! Wonder how what you do to generate money?
thanks for watching! Hank seem to have worked around boats all his life. I know one of his secrets to sustain this lifestyle is to know how to fix everything that's on the boat himself which comes super handy in making money too.
Yep if you dont like your neighbours up with the pick & move , Keeps you fit mentally & Physically ... Love it .
I see a nonsuch. Can you show us how it sails all by yourself? Thank you.
hopefully next time I cross my path with Hank we could do that but for on that occasion we only used the engine
Wow brother. Wow. What a great 8 minutes. What a great story. No fluff. No unnecessary drama. Well done!🤗🤗🤗
I'm super glad you enjoyed it and thanks for such a nice comment!!!
My wife and i will hopefully sail to la palma soon, when we do, we will hike these terrains 💪🏻 Thanks for the tips to look out for 🙏🏻⛰️❤️⛵🏴☠️⚓🌊
glad you enjoyed! we loved hiking in La Palma and the beautiful thing is often you are pretty alone on these hikes, they are not crowded at all!
Great video ❤️ i see a video of yours *5 days hiking in La Palma* ,we live in Tenerife 😃 if you come by, give us a shout if you like 🙏🏻⚓🏴☠️⛵❤️ Take care
Thanks for watching! I actually also live in Tenerife so we should definitely meet! drop me a message on IG if you can guys!
@@beyond_travel ok thats great, i Will do tomorrow at some point as we have just opened recently an IG and i dont even have It instaled on my tlf, but il get back to you 🙏🏼 Hope You are well ⛵⚓
„total freedom, can go wherever I want“ Next scene: Is forced to leave because of weather Next scene: Can’t leave because the boat is burned down Next scene: Can’t leave because anchor is stuck and needs help. The irony… I love sailing but the truth is that we need to endure A LOT over a long time to be granted some very special moments. Always something is broken, always something doesn’t work out as planned, always everything is more expensive than expected… You really need to know why you are living such a lifestyle or you will be back on land soon. Happy sailing and fair winds!
I love the irony too here! Hank told me also that for this kind of lifestyle you have to 'be able to fix all aspects of all the components yourself' so definitely it is not for everyone.
'You can go anywhere, any time you want.' And how does one pay bills and feed onself with such freedoms?
you have to have lots of boat skills to allow for this lifestyle plus some compromises
i love watching documentaries like this. cant wait to have my own sailboat
Thanks for watching! Good luck with the boat. I hope you get asap!!
Gratuluje, fantastyczny materiał! Super ujęcia👍👍👍 Żałuje, że nie mogłem z Wami pomaszerować
@@filipesso dzięki, mam nadzieję że następnym razem sie uda, np. Rysy pod koniec września?
I've loved so much meeting captain Hunk <3 what a cool guy!!! !
Legend 🙌🙌
Amazing! I am so glad you did those without me 🤣 I could pass out.
Yep, no heavy hiking together 😉😉
It was a treasure chest the anchor was caught on...😊 my first boat in my 60s......😊
That would have been an amazing story 😅😅😅😅
I've been doing it for 30 years and you know the only thing that saved me Is constant Clorox fighting that black mold
Good tip for new people I guess
Is the boat a Freedom 40AC?
It's actually Freedom 40 CC, It's also one of very few that are full keel with external lead ballast.
@@beyond_travel Oh right. Of course. I was thinking “aft cabin.” Some day I will own a 40 or 44 and sail the world in it. I am completely enamored with them!
What a wonderful human being you are🎉🎉🎉 WE welcome you to Turkish coast and explore a different culture here😊
I'll pass the message :)
How can someone live on a boat for 30 years without working? I'm really serious amd curious about this. I've wanted to learn to sail since I had a brief taste of it in the Boy Scouts many years ago as a young man. I'm 55 now and a professional chef. I run a catering business to pay my bills and I'm very frugal. My home is paid for, I only buy used vehicles and I very rarely go out to eat because my food is better than most restaurants anyway, lol (being a chef). I just don't understand how someone can live on a sailboat and not work. I'd love to do this! I'd do it in a second if I could figure out how. I wish someone could explain this to me.
From my conversations with Captain Hank who is now in his 70s, I know he worked around various boat / sail businesses over his life. We didn't get much into the details but I know working in this field was his main occupation for most of his life.
You can be a chef on a boat. I need one for three charters I have booked on a 58 ft catamaran. It's great money with tips.
You have an excellent profession/skill (I enjoy good food and love cooking). Buy a 60 ft sailboat and operate it as a charter in the most beautiful places in the world.
I am also curious to know and follow along; especially to be able to pay for repairs/maintenance or the diver. Food would't be an issue, since I can eat fish every day 😂
Ha ha, I met him in Greece, interesting cat, should have asked him about v Gwyneth paltro.
Gotta have a scuba setup on board
I agree, that would be an ultimate adventure setup for me!!
What a pleasant chap thanks
Where does the money come from? Where does Capt. Hank get the money to live on the boat?
I suppose he made some good choices here and there to make this life as possibility 💸
yeah i wonder what he did never to work again ,great story i curious what investments he made ,surely its not a government pension .will we ever find out
Most of the guys that live in that style just earn from hosting passengers on the boat and taking them places, diving, snorkeling and other activities. Owning such a big boat is a lifetime job...
@@ConstantinZagorsky that’s exactly what he did when in Guatemala & Honduras.
You are very rude !
It sounds like Captain Hank could tell interesting stories for months straight without repeating, but they'd be the kind of stories you'd want to hear over and over.
Definitely! He’s like a gold mine for stories! 💎
The freedom of sailing... Thank you Marcin for sharing this story.
Thanks for watching! Can’t wait for you to have your first boat mate ⛵️
Hank is an old friend from Rio Dulce, Guatemala. He helped me with his expertise with wooden boats on my 1936 Tahiti Ketch "ODYSSEY" during her 3 year restoration. After that I sailed the waters of Guatemala and the reef of Belize for 15 years. Best years of my life ...
That must haven’t been one amazing trip, definitely sounds like some of the best times 🥳🥳🥳
Hey Chocolate Bob .. what happened to the Ketch??
The mystery is solved. I’ve been trying to identify a boat that I can see from my balcony in Saranda for the past month. Then I stumbled on this video. It’s the Phoenix.
Nice one, happy to have helped solve the mystery! We were also asking the same question for a while 😅😅 I know now Hank is gone for the summer but he should be back in winter again
I recognised the type from the unique rig and hull lines .. a Freedom 40 or possibly larger. A double cat rigged boat with self supporting masts ..unorthodox with classic sailing ship hull features they can also show a clean wake to a lot more racey boats.. the high gun hauls keep you safely onboard even in rough seas. Very 😎 boat 🧙🏻♂️🇬🇧. Would love to see and hear more about it.
Mega pozytywny dokument! Chcemy jeszcze! 🙌
Dziękuję za miłe słowa! Pracuje nad kolejnymi filmami 🍿 🎥
Hi Marcin, Thanks for your interesting video. We are planning to go to Albania this July, and I can not find an answer to my question anywhere. Maybe you know, is there a possibility to leave the rented car in the other city? or it should be returned back to the Tirana office?
@@lauramelkonyan3924 hi Laura, we rented our car from Surprice via booking.com and decided to return it back to Tirana since my friend was flying back from there but I know they also have their office in Saranda so in theory it should be possible. To check your options I’d suggest a car rental search with your desired route through booking.con or Skyscanner.
@beyond_travel Thank you very much, will try to find information)))
Did you travel back to Tirana to fly out of the country?
@@STEPHMIGDALMUSIC-up1th as it was winter that’s the way out. The drive is around 4hrs from Saranda but there are also quite a few mini buses each day. During the summer (until early November) the easiest way in & out is via Corfu & a direct ferry to Saranda.
