2003 BMW R1150GS Adventure Alternator Belt Change

In this video, I change the alternator/generator belt on the bike. Not very difficult, but probably would have been easier if I had removed the tank.

TAC Force Range Bag Review (Medium/Tall) - Superior!
Просмотров 32 тыс.13 лет назад
Review of the most excellent TAC Force Range Bag. It is called the medium on some sites, but on TAC's site it is termed the 'Tall' bag.
Why doesn’t any body say what it was or if and how they fixed it !!!
Phil, I determined it was the push rods, but never fixed it, because it didn't affect the operation of the bike. Just an annoying sound. 😊
On top of it all… was this a gay production? It all sounded super gay I think…
Thank you brother! Well explained. Unlike most!
I have a 2004 r1200gs with 125,000km and a v-strom1050xt. I envy your engine sound. My r1200gs got a lot better with the valve check and throttle cleaning, but it still doesn't sound like your engine. Still, I am enjoying the special pleasure of riding an old bike. Like many others, I want to ride more than 500,000 km.
I don’t know how many videos I watched without success to assemble my MK III. This guy Max clarified & simplified the process in 3 fuckin minutes. Good video. Almost wish I hadn’t wasted 2 hours on other videos…but hey, at least the others tried to contribute. Thanks max
Thank you - I appreciate the positive feedback!
This video was a little painful to watch. Doing a how to is not really a platform for the instructor to free lance the procedure. Under no circumstances should you ever connect the positive terminal last. Disconnect the negative first then the positive when removing the battery. Reconnect the positive first the the negative last when installing the battery. This will prevent any possibly of the positive lead arcing to ground. It would have been a much better video if the person doing it would have been knowledgeable on the task at hand rather than attempt to be witty or clever with his narrative. In short, don’t do as he does or says. To much wrong in the middle, but to his credit, the battery did get installed without damaging the electronic system on the R1200GS. LOTS OF CRINGE MOMENTS THOUGH!
You doing this first time your self, and not to good eider, and just became a teacher... A mix of army talk with german droppings here and there, religious and respectfully to "old gall" but just at the begining... Are you a growing man? "Don't f.... with that" The battery cover is promoted to a PANEL now, poring acid just graduate to a PROCESS... Gerry built, make shift tripod, stand buy...I was afraid he will be back with a grenade launcher or an M16. Sheath, A simple battery installations became a lecture now...And why negatory? All that research and all that stand by, and even ya ya ya; never mind the army/police stile spelling, we are very impressed. How is that you did a little research but YOU figure that out... Just curious where is the sheet hole you put that old battery? A new battery (the beach) not a new battery system..Let's give her a go! It's always like that, it's always a trick... Positive is pozi traction? Loosing patience pain in the aaaa...this in to that, than on the other...yaaa, almost, forgot the other one. F....n fifteen thausend hour's the beach... Mack7 Mack7 ...
Thanks for sharing this great video, I got the best quality product from replicaclubs..ru yesterday
Cam chain tensioner , fit the upgrade one £65 ...sorted !
Thanks. It's a very good idea for tense the poly-V belt.
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful. As already commented Negative comes off first and on last. ;-) When I disconnect the battery the alarm goes off. What should I do to avoid this?
I do not know - my GS doesn't have an alarm. If you find out how - that would be good to know for those that have alarms.
Like others said, I'm glad to see how to remove that plastic bracket. A couple of general suggestions: wear nitrile gloves when working with the acid; Disconnect and isolate the negative cable before putting a tool on the positive terminal, and when installing, connect the positive first, then negative - this to avoid accidental short circuit to ground if tool on positive terminal touches frame. Thanks !
@Maxseven777 Hi, can I check if you’re still using this battery for your R1200GS Adventure? Is there any issues with the battery? Thanks in advance.
Still going strong - no problems.
Maxseven777 Thank you!
You really don’t know what your doing yet you are showing everyone “how to do it”
Did you get any error message after installing the battery? No errors caused by both terminals being disconnected?
No, no problems of any kind.
Cracking me up Max7 .. thanks
Finally, someone that showed me how to remove the hard plastic bracket around the battery. Thank you Max!
Just got my 2002 GSA! Been on a 72 R75/5 airhead for 30 yrs. Love this beast 1150. Ready to ride to Alaska....Cheers
This fellow had the same issue - and fixed it. Turned out to be the bi-metal (aluminum and steel) pushrods. ruclips.net/video/Yu36vhL6j4c/видео.html
I'm going to do the pushrod upgrade once I can scrape together the $200 for four new rods lol. At least it's an easy swap job I guess. These bikes are really easy to work on, as long as it's not the clutch you want to get to.
I have 2000 model R1150 GS and it used to have that sound. Apparently there is a retro fit for the Cam Chain tensioner, so had that done at about 45,00 km's. It has made the bike quieter at idele although after a ride it can emit a type of knock knocking sound which I have been told is very quiet compared to most others, so that not too bad I suppose. Up to 79,000km's on the odometer now. So as this video was a while ago it would interesting to know what happened. Hope you didn't have to take the heads apart...... :(
Thank you so much for the video! It helped me so much! And I had a good laugh at all your extra comments in between. Thanks for the trouble of recording it
What are you messing with on your clutch side? You say "put that little doohickey on". Just curious
So what was it? Throttle body or pushrods?
I can tell you that it was NOT the throttle-bodies. I had sold the bike shortly after the video, so I never found out - but am almost certain it was the bi-metal push-rods causing the sound.

This was fantastic, thanks so much!
Sounds like valve adjustment needs to be done. What was it in the end?
Almost positive it was the bi-metal pushrods under the rocker-arms. I sold the bike prior to correcting this.
I like the dog! :-D
Hi did you solve this ?? I have the same problem
See my reply or - ruclips.net/video/Iyex9tVnQ-0/видео.html
Everyone having trouble seeing what is going on here, watch this video. ruclips.net/video/0Zz-Hg_Af6c/видео.html It's a much clearer process. No hard feelings, I just couldn't see what you were doing with the angle and lighting.
Hi I have to replace the alternator belt, but the operation seems simple enough, reading the workshop manual, it's not for me because the manual is split up the work on the engine disconnected from telaio.La difficulty (does not enter the torque wrench ) I meet is pulling in the right tightening torque of 20 Nm, the bolt at the top as the front suspension prevents me unless partially disassemble latter '. Any of you have experience with respect to the model of my bike? I accept tips Thank you Fabrizio
did you ever figure it out?
See my reply.
hello, i think that the sound is comming from Shutter ... i mean the axis are K.O. Bearings has bigger distance and that is why it is happedn only in hot engine. bmwgs.cz/forum/attachments/2015/01/DSC_0385.JPG
try press the clutch, if the noise stop is a tipical sound produced by the stick that push rthe diaphragm. its so comon in the r1150. if you press the clutch and the noise continue, veryfy valve calibration and hidraulic chain tensioners
I have the same bike making the same noise? Did you ever figure it out?
+Michael Warren I didn't get a chance to take the heads apart to verify that the pushrods needed replacing, as I sold the bike (traded in) and bought a 2015 GSA. In retrospect, I'm 90% certain it was the pushrods, because it only happened when the engine was at temperature. In any event, the noise was annoying, but didn't cause any performance problems or malfunction.
+Maxseven777 - yep from what I've read, that's the issue and is easily fixed but basically a non issue. Congrats on the new whip, and thanks for the video, helped greatly to diagnose
+Michael Warren Thanks for info... I have same issue on my bike... not sure, should I do anything or just continue ride and don't worry about this sound.
@@feniksgordonfreemana long time ago, but do you remember what was causing the sound on your bike?
I often go to the range with my wife so we need to carry two full size pistols, 6-8 magazines for each, ear/eye protection, extra ammo and a reloader. I was worried this bag would not be large enough, but actually it is perfect. here is the link to it in case anyone is interested: amzn.to\1dK3iAQ
Tac Force went out of business.
Totally off the subject of range bags, but what brand of organizers, are those on your workbench? Also, can you give me an idea of where you got them. Thanks
VEry nice. I have seen them and the quality is as you said, for the price very good!
