Great point about the fact that daily tracking of ones CO2 footprint may not be all that helpful. Doing this once already highlights four huge areas of personal emissions: 1. heating or cooling of the home, 2. car fueling, 3. flights and 4. food choices. These require directional changes in life, rather than daily decisions. For example buying an electric car, and benefiting from an increasing amounts of RE in the grid (or buying solar PV to supplement)? Deciding to not fly - go by train? Don't go? Go economy, not business (more persons per plane)? Make a huge step-up in home insulation, and switch to electrical heating (likely a heat pump)? And finally, decide to eat a largely plant-based diet? Only this latter one requires daily decisions. However once decided and enjoyed, it becomes easy to maintain - done right there's usually no going back!
