I can never understand why everything must be put into a greenhouse. “Let’s go green with tons of fucking plastic and energy inputs!” Why don’t they grow it outdoors? Yes, there is much more waste, however there’s also a way lower startup cost, and a lessened load on the environment.

ATT is about their get their last dollar from me...While I choose to continue with dsl, which should be at 660kbs. I am paying for this speed. Even at this low speed I am being blocked. It is Kbs, which means it is less than 1 Mbs! This is still just adequate for watching videos. I don't need their wireless router, and I definitely don't need my one internet service bundled with anything. I don't have any limits to any plan, but I use very little data. So... the only reason I can see I am being throttled by ATT is based on alt-news content of videos, or their hunger to charge me more. I do not want to download copywritten material, but back in the days of dial-up 56k internet, yes you read that right, I could just download videos while I sleep and in the morning the download would be complete ready to be watched. Right now, I can select You Tube videos I want to watch later. Why can't I just set these videos for download while I sleep, a time that should be fastest with least demand -- and when I get up in the morning presto, the video download is complete. I could then view videos offline whenever I wish. The point is they would rather you be addicted to expensive data plans.

Great video and Interesting discussion. I think the topic of empathy is an important one. Of course you can be of any ethnic background and write (convincingly) about characters of other backgrounds. But there is a limit, I think, depending on the type of story. If you, a white writer, write an action thriller with a generic lead who happens to be of Indian heritage, then , sure. Or if you are doing a documentary and rely heavily on research sources to gather the background. But there are tons of examples of ostensibly super-talented, super-experienced writers who decorate their narratives with non-white characters who are cringeworthy in their inauthenticity, or as flavorless as wood. This is particularly a problem when there is more than one non white character (two Black friends talking, for example). And, my guess is that the writers do not command the empathy or the motivation to get these (Black, Asian or Latino) characters pitch perfect, beyond simply casting them as non-white. I do not think it is intentional or necessarily mean-spirited, I just think it is a lot to ask when it comes to deeply inhabiting any well-defined sub-culture that is not your own, and then trying to speak for them. If it's one-off, generic characters, it's probably a non issue. That's where we get the "happens to be" thing. Happens to be Asian, happens to be Latino, etc.
