THANK YOU for watching a video that is outside of my norm. Sometimes you've just gotta go back to the basics. Over the past few weeks I've been doing just that! There was a LOT of talking, but needed to get it out. See you next time with a new guitar.

Kind of still confused on this release, since there was no news or big to-do about it. I feel like it's something like a Guitar Center special, but it's also listed on other smaller retail sites. Who knows.. but I absolutely adore it, and I'm thankful my local GC had it in store. THANK YOU for continuing to watch these videos!

New Gear Day! Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard VOS w/ Maestro Vibrola
I've owned this guitar at 2 different times. I've bought it again for the 3rd time today. It was an incredible guitar and easy to play with it's 12"-16" radius. Also, the price point is insane. It's one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned and it was 1/4 of the cost of others I've owned that were way more in price that didn't play as nice.
Great Video! I love the passion that you clearly have for guitars and for the small stuff, like the sticker. I own the 61 USA Maestro version which I love. I have been thinking about upgrading to one like yours so this video has been very helpful to me. The neck on the 61 is very thin and because of that I have to make truss rod tweaks quite often. I also own a non Maestro 61 USA and the one with the Maestro is much easier for me to play because the added weight of the Maestro...not as much neck dive. I can also struggle playing in front of others. I do play live on Sunday mornings but I have to be very prepared, maybe over prepared. I encourage you to continue to have fun playing. Whether it is just for you or you share it with others. It will bring you so much joy as you go through life. Especially through difficult times.
That strat in the back is awesome
Favorite headstock is a Gibson?
yes its whats called shreader but, it plays all genres, more easily to me, its also called a fast neck, check your action, mine is at 1.2 to 1.5 mm, if thats a strat style 2 or 6 point tremolo, you know you cant use that tremolo until its set up in the style you want, floating or decked, as is something can break trying to use as is, have to loosen the screws so it can pivot, can balance the back of the trem either floating in the air about 1/8 inch off the deck or deck it meaning flat, or block it meaning a wood block wedge in the spring area. Utube vids on it. Have to balance tension between strings and the springs. Put on a locking nut, a string positioner at nut, maybe a wilkenson trem drop in, maybe gotoh locking tuners, and depends on what your playing if you want different pickups. Then its a 1500 dollar guitar or much more, for 100 dollars in parts, the bones are good, meaning you will have a hard time finding a better neck and body for this style, even at thousands of dollars, its not the price, to me and checking, that price range has best body and neck on most brands, after that its the extras, diy saves money, right now if thats a strat style tremolo its working like a hardtail style. You can change tuning easily the way the trem is set now, pretty easily if change to a wilkenson drop in, now the j32 if I remember has a floyd rose tremolo, whole different story, usually dont change tunings on that due to it takes to long, so would have more that one guitar ready to go. Or a very fast guitar tech stage side.
Yeah, your alltime fave guitar headstock in the history of the world is gorgeous 70's Strat's
That Shawbucker sounds AMAAAAAAZING! Killer song choice for your demo <3 HSB is a perfect display of Kurt's songwriting genius.
Hi! Did you’re vibrola arm get more “loose” with the time/usage? Cheers
You cant get any more les paul than that
Hello Ashley: if you really want to purchase an amazing guitar look and read the reviews on the squire J. Mascis Jazzmaster. Every review is a ten so I bought one. Recently purchased a mint 1966 Fender Jazzmaster for over 12 grand. This guitar is just as good at huge fraction of the price.
Thank you for the tip! I've seen that one and it is very tempting 🎸
I have the same guitar. Had the same issues with the finish you did. Bought it brand new and got it home and was like why does the finish look so cloudy and like there is scratches all over it. The scratches weren't in the guitar itself just seem to be in that hazy vos junk they put on or like they waxed it and didn't buff it off good enough. I polished the guitar with the vintage Gibson cleaning kit and all scratches gone and looked so much better. I also took the metal polish from the kit to all the metal bits and they look so much better as well. If you leave the vos junk on the metal it will continue to age a lot faster then a real 64 would have so I personally wanted that stuff off. Love the guitar now. How much does yours weigh? Mine is 7.6lbs.
Very good tips on cleaning these things up! Looking back at my notes, mine is 7lb 6 oz!
@AshleyOffset Awesome mine is 7.6 as well. Just was curious as have seen them anywhere from 7.2 to 8.05.
Hi from the UK 🖐 I bought my white j22 dinky about 4 months ago and love it (That Jackson headstock and logo is a work of art). I took up the Guitar 4yrs ago at 53yrs of age, I would practice get frustrated , put it down, watch guitar vids on YT , buy another guitar, practice on it enjoy it, put it down, buy another practice on it etc,etc..I now have 14 electric guitars and have got better at playing..the frustration went away about a year ago after i learned all the pentatonic scales. Best thing i ever done, i just love jamming over backing tracks on my spark amps, will i ever be a fantastic guitar player, NO!, i will just continue to Jam, constantly learning as i go and now really enjoy the fun time i spend with a guitar in my hands. loving your enthusiastic approach to your guitar journey, your love for them and really enjoyed your vid...new sub for you 😁
Such a tough choice ... Been saving for a "dream guitar". It's to be another HH offset, with a hard tail, much like my last acquisition, mij HH Jazzmaster with stoptail, only with double the budget... It's between one of these... Or a Fano jm6 Oltre ... 🤔
Angelic ...
The clean sound is better sounding than the distorted sound. Maybe the pedal? Just noticing this because it's the opposite way on my JS. Anyhow, thanks Ashley
Sorry to take a while to respond. Been outrunning hurricanes and tornadoes. If Fender wanted to find a great spokesperson who better than you. Forget that you are beautiful and intelligent - your shirt matches the color LOL. But seriously, thanks for the thoughtful and well explained overview. I still have yet to own an offset but on the hunt! So awesome that you got Jared James Nichols to do the demo hahaha!!! Sorry - its been a day! Thought it might be a short scale but apparently not? All the very very best to you - go go go Girl. Luv Ya!!!!!
This comment made my day, and it happens to be my birthday! Thank you always for your kind words. Really lucky to have found you in this community! I hope all is well your way with the horrible weather it sounds like you've experienced. Sending love!
Awww hope you have a Fantastic Happy Birthday!!!!😃
Hi Ashley! Hope you're doing great. I was wondering what are your opinions on buying from Sweetwater vs Cream city music?
Hi Cesar! I have never purchased from Sweetwater before, but Cream City was definitely easy to work with and helped me find just what I was looking for. I've heard awesome things about Sweetwater too :)
I so want the burst one with the gold pickguard
Yeah, I see that. Kings Guard colours! Me, I'd like to see the ebony board on this one... I think it would pop like a Jimi Hendrix Strat... But it doesn't matter cuz I'm gonna get the Texas tea. That shit is me all day!
Lol it's a pretty perfect guitar aside from one thing... That volume knob placement is restarted. Fender should fire that effing moron.
won't be buying this one fender.
Just ordered new JS22... waiting for it. It's my first guitar
Awesome! Let me know how you like it, and congrats on your first guitar! It's a great choice.
Thanks sounded great
That fretboard is junk. They used rosewood years ago. My 2000 Squire Strat has rosewood and it plays better tant when I bought it
It sounds nice. I have to try it first. The body just looks uncomfortable to me. I'm use to my tele and jazzmaster
Totally understand. I figured it would be uncomfortable too, but the contours are perfect. I do play mostly sitting down, though.
@AshleyOffset im sure standing wouldn't matter. It looks great, im going to try it out. I'm a bass player mostly. I'm looking to get the bass version. It reminds me of a jaguar bass.
@@stevenbaca587 The bass version looks AWESOME!
Can we remove or change the position of that knob under the bridge pickup?, it's chopping fingers...
I’m really glad they included the meteora in the new American ultra 2 line up, this guitar needs more praise.
I completely agree!
They need to release the solar flare color guitar, not just exclusive to the bass
It deserved an ebony fretboard but sadly Fender didn’t make that an option.
Ebony fretboards are so fucking overrated.
No Color I like🥲
Ah, bummer :(
$2250 for a maple fret board and an alder body is a big no for me. Somehow Fender has fooled everyone into thinking this is worth that price.
What’s wrong with a maple fret board.
Sweet
Careful with your knuckles - I think they meant to put the rubber knobs on this one. Otherwise it's a pretty great guitar.
I hadn't seen this vid. Great to catch it. I love the thin neck profiles too!
That is a gorgeous guitar, and this is an excellent review. I've been eyeballing the Meteora in Avalanche as a possible replacement for my Reverend Billy Corgan BC-1 which is very similar in form and function, but I'm getting to feel like having an artist/signature series guitar may be a bit on the juvenile side (especially when you're trying to keep your collection lean). Cheers!
Nicest Fender guitar I've ever seen (other than my American Pro II Jazzmaster in Dark Night). OH DEER
I dunno it looks kinda dumb. Like what novo guitars did with the jazzmaster shape. Also typically heavier than a strat or tele shape so that sucks. Also the name is terrible. Reminds me of linkin park which is just awful lolz.
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 Gotta agree with you on the name. I'm also not in love with the uncovered humbuckers. The unfinished look of them doesn't befit such an expensive guitar.
*It appears Fender has really started hustling to ensure they can compete with the Asian guitar market.* It's great to have a veteran legend brand instrument, but I see left and right guitars from the right seller $250 and it's literally equal to a Gibson and Fender selling for $2500 all the way down to the unbranded pickups. *These companies are gambling on there being enough "gear snobs" to keep them profitable which is why Gibson has been in Chapter 11 for years now.* They know if they increase the quality of entry level instruments, it will butcher the sales in their overpriced "old man" guitars. *Majority of the world isn't interested in buying 20 guitars for a few thousand dollars a piece, but when you look at the trends, millions of guitarists are stacking up dozens of guitars just for playing at home and locally, and doing the same with hyper expensive amplifiers.* Anyway, soon enough, someone will come in with a business model and demolish the snob brands. *I'm literally a scientist in electronics engineering and know exactly where it's all going to wind up.* Digital will crush valves and solid-state analog within 5 to at most, 10 more years.
I like your insight, and totally agree on price points and bang for buck just because of brand names. Even though I was buying one of these big brands, I was really hoping to do it from a local shop at the very least. Thank you for watching!
@@Rod_Serlings_wristwatch it has nothing to do with such a rude and childish obnoxious comment as getting over myself because people being so shallowly full of themselves is the most specific reason these vintage brands will remain as empires and soaking up government subsidies to survive. *Gibson has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy for over half a decade.* It prevents creditors they owe from going after them financially while they restructure and they can do it for many years with the creditors satisfied. I'm an electronics engineer and inventor with decades in various technical trade skills so I understand markets at a very deep level. *I know tubes will never go away, however, digital will ultimately continue to dominate the trends until it's easily 90% of all gear sales and the valve industry will have to adapt.* Their current adaption is truly absurd and snob marketing schemes because what remains consistent is people are stupid and like to spend money. The more they have, the more they tend to spend it foolishly. *My argument is far from oversimplified, it's an economic fact! lol* You have no understanding of economics and industry, just the widespread bad habits of human beings that operate on credit at all levels of financial class. *You're the one with a ridiculously oversimplified argument.* I'm more than aware the majority of people are technically ignorant much less knowledgeable in an advanced field of science such as my own. *There will always be everyone from dummies to geniuses to socially insecure intermediates that want the power of owning a highly lusted instrument and the attention it commands in social settings.* All the trends prove that I am correct, the majority of guitar and music equipment sales are in "off-brands" as well as digital and it's to such extents, goofball brands that have traditionally died out are now becoming staples in the industry and there's no sign of their business models failing. *As a scientist and inventor though, I know YOUNG people will continue to favor the newest most technology so that price means nothing in the long run.* They want the newest most conversation piece in technology. *It's ironic that you're the one stuck in the past with your thinking, meanwhile, I'm several steps ahead of everything.* Everything going on with designs, brands, sales and so on is what I've predicted over a decade ago. *In 5 to at most 10 more years, digital will literally constitute 95% of all guitar gear sales.* I can already buy prefabbed 100-watt RMS digital amplifiers for $5 a piece that on the bench tests genuinely provide that much wattage. So, the current trend ATM is more or less most committed guitarists have a dozen guitars of off-brands or entry level big brand models and also buy at least 2 that are expensive and a flashy brand name. It's no different than Nike shoes vs Walmart's store brand.
Great to see you again, Ashley! I’m glad you got such a nice Fender. I love my Gibson guitars but everyone should have a Fender in the stable
Awesome guitar Ashley!
Nice axe, love the shape. But why would I pretend it was nitro... So I could look forward to it being an ugly yellow in a few yrs? I never got that whole thing. Good vid
Thanks! Only reason I say that is because a couple of my Fenders with poly have started getting cracks near the neck pocket. But you're right, much less worries when handling ones without nitro, that's for sure!
I love that ugly yellow
Welcome back Ash, now you've got one of the top-shelf offset guitars so no one can complain! Other reviewers who opened Ultra II guitars this week concur that there is a paint smell, so it's not just you. Locking tuners with a fixed bridge is as fast and easy as string changes get, and push-pull humbuckers actually give you a lot more tonal options than guitars with more pickups. And thank you for supporting my local business (I live a few minutes from the Fender factory.) Keep posting! 🎸🤘❤
Thanks for sticking around! Always appreciate your insight :)
Gawd I love that accent. And that’s a super cool offset Fender. It’s like a hybrid of a Gibson Firebird and a Fender Jaguar body. Great video Ash.❤❤❤
Haha thank you!!
Cool, I really like the white pups with the white finish. Great to see you again.
Sending love to you, sister!
Awesome guitar! Is the fretboard gloss or satin? I love a maple neck and fretboard, but ! am not a fan of the feeling of the thick clear gloss that Fender often uses.
satin :) thank you for watching!
The necks are tinted.
First, good to see you back!! I hope all's well. I seriously always enjoy your videos and your demos. Second, that's an awesome guitar. I love the look and it sounds amazing. I love how individual it is. The Meteora is definitely it's own thing. When I first saw them, I was a bit put off, but the more I see them, the more I'm like, these are so cool looking! Nice guitar, glad that you like it
It really is always nice to see you in the comments. Thanks for sticking around so long and for always having such kind words!
@@AshleyOffset Oh, I always enjoy your vids. You are just so honest and legit, not coming off as scripted or with slick production (not that they look or sound bad, mind you); just you and your joy of showing off and talking about your guitars. I think it's awesome.
Beautiful guitar! Love the color!
Beautiful guitar - love the Avalanche White colour. I enjoyed your review a lot as I have never seen this model in any of my go-to (local) guitar shops. After watching your review, I'm really interested in trying one out. I still would have liked to see YOU demo it though (I think you underestimate your ability), but I get that you hate doing it 🙂.
