    Your missiles take a little while to load onto the rail. There may also be a limit to how many can be used at once, older radar had severe limits on how many they could guide. Not sure if that is modeled in the game. Glad I found your channel, mellow and enjoyable. Thank you for making content for us to enjoy!

    To add a bit on what the other comment already explained (I know its a lot of information overall, you will start getting it bit by bit once things gradually click once you see them in action): Semi-active missiles are guided by your ship's radar lock instead of carrying their own radar system (advantage of this being that they are much harder to notice, since the missile itself is not pinging the enemy, and the radar system on a ship is much more accurate and precise than anything that can be fitted in the limited space of a missile, which is why you will see most anti air missiles here use semi active homing), if they lose connection to your ship or if your radar loses its lock on target the missile wont be able to do much. Because they work by radar lock, the range shown when you click on a semi-active missile is basically the horizon (which is as far as some radars can detect a surface target, but also because the horizon would cut the link between the missile and your ship) but if its an air target then the semi-active missiles can go way farther, you can hover your mouse over an incoming aerial target with the missile selected, as if you are going to launch it, and the range should update on the map so you can check if its truly within range or not. The higher something is flying the farther it can be spotted by enemy radar as a rule thumb, but it can also get visual spotting on enemies from farther away so they can spot enemies for you without using radar, doing this from the start is usually fine since the enemy normally starts with their radar off as well, but if you spot enemies and they have an ellipse around them then that meansthey are using radar and the ellipse shows their probable location, but that doesnt mean they have seen you yet, since you can spot enemies using radar from like 4x the distance they need to spot you with it. If you want your aircraft to be sneaky and you already know where the enemy is at you can send them flying low so the horizon covers them from radar and enemy visual range as much as possible. But if you need your planes to go REALLY far away, then flying at max height is useful because Also, some missiles take maybe 20-30 seconds to be loaded since they dont have a dedicated launcher, but instead use a multipurpose launcher. Once you select the type of missile you are going to shoot at a target they start loading that missile type into the launcher but it takes a bit. Harpoons tend to have dedicated launchers, so the ships that use harpoons can launch those basically as soon as you give the order. Edit: as for situations like the one at 40:48 where the ship is not moving to the waypoint, you can see on the UI at the bottom, left of your weapons, theres a "status" field, and it says "Engaging with RM 8" which is the missile you ordered the ship to attack with, so the ship will try to, first and foremost, get in range and into position to execute that attack, and any other attack command you gave it since those take priority, and once that is done it will start following the waypoints and navigating normally. To prevent this you can right click on it and order "cease fire" so it goes back to following its usual navigation orders.

    To utilize naval weapons, one must first understand the criteria to fire them and guide them to the target. Naval gunfire is rather straight forward, you have in range of the weapon a clear position contact with no estimation of variation shown by that yellow circle of the contact. For certain other games/situations, one must make sure the arc and path of the gunfire will reach the target. That comes into play with high land mass trying to aim at something beyond it. You would hit the land in front, not the target. For missiles and torpedoes, it starts to get muddy. For most anti-ship missiles and surface to air radar guided missiles, they either are active guidance or semi-active. Semi-active guided missiles require you to obtain a lock on the target before firing if in range. Active guided missiles for the most part are fire and forget. On active guided missiles you have a definite range that the target is at and you fire with that data if within range. Active guidance missile will turn on that seeker usually well early enough to find it given that range and attempt to destroy the target. You can tell if a track has a radar lock by looking at the letters under the target will have an R. In the information box of the track, it will list what units are detecting it and by what means. Ships will not navigate the direction you want if you give them orders to attack a track usually. They are usually maneuvering to fire the weapons in the best outcome/manner. If you want it to stop, need to choose cease fire in the unit actions menu. I believe the F-4 Phantoms in this scenario are a consquence of an AI update for aircraft to make them actually a real threat. I suspect when possible they will be updating the scenario when they can to reduce the number of possible aircraft in the scenario.

    Just discovered your channel and liking your content. This game is amazing and I played a few scenarios of it. Yes, it has a steep learning curve and it can be challenging but that is what makes it fun. Also, there are not many naval games set in the Missile Age and naval games are a niche genre. Hopefully you are enjoying the game as much as I am. I would recommend some games in the future for if you're interested: 1: GHPC (tank sim) 2: Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts (RTS-style naval combat where you build your own ships) 3: U-Boat (Subsim) 4: Nebulous: Fleet Command (RTS set in space) 5: WARNO (RTS set in Cold War gone hot) 6: Silent Hunter 3 (The best Subsim, IMO) These just a name few and they are challenging games. But they are fun. Also, you just got a another subscriber. Good luck with your channel.

    I walked into it blind and found it relatively easy. It all depends on how much military knowledge you have to begin with - it's a tactical simulator basically. If you studied declassified cold war information and know how things were done in real life, all of that applies here. If you played other similar sims (CMANO in particular, which is even more difficult and realistic), all of that knowledge also transfers. If you had absolutely no contact with real life naval warfare, you are going to have a hard time, but this also makes it a great tool for learning about it, if the topic is of interest to you. Basically, people who this games is addressed to - military and naval enthusiasts - don't need a recommendation, it's the most important release of the year to the. Everyone else: it depends on whether or not they want to dive into the topic. If you simply want a good strategy game, there are better options.

While i got my moneys worth from this game and will continue playing, it just isnt a great first impression for players new to these kinds of games in comparison with others. Bugs and incomplete systems abound, and i dont think there is a lot of hope for the games micromanagement issues atm. Its fun, but it needs patience for the wrong reasons so i would recommend other pseudo war simulators as a first impression

    I will try to explain to you the absolute dynamics of naval combat in a way that you will understand easily. First thing is that the ships themselves do not matter as much as you may think, what matters is what weapons and sensors they can use. Warships nowadays are basicaly mobile missile silos and radar instalations (so focus on learning their weapons and sensors). Ships in surface combat (ship vs ship) will mostly rely on radar to spot the enemy and be able to fire its missiles at least roughly on target. The problem with that is that if one ship has its radar on it will be counter detected by the enemy from a far greater range. (Think of activating the radar as using a flashlight in a big dark field, sure you will be able to see the enemy if he is close to you, but if he is far away llying in wait hidden he will be able to see the light from your flashlight from very far away and you wont even know about it). So turning on radar is a bit of a mind game. Whoevers turns the radar on first is at a considerable disadvantage, however in many cases it is necessary when you suspect the enemy is already close or when you suspect there are missiles already in the air launched against you. Still about radar, radar detection range is not very reliable, as the radar detection works on the principle of reflection. (Again think of the flashlight, it will be much easier to see the enemy on the dark field if he is an obese dude wearing a space blanket, and in turn, that means you can spot him from farther away than if he was a midget wearing camo.) With radar its the same, radar will detect large ships from very far, but will only detect things such as speedboats when they are already close-ish. That means that the prefered tactic in naval warfare is that if possible we want to keep our radars off and try to find the enemy in other ways. That is because, as I explained, turning on the radar will imediately give your direction away to any enemy that has a ESM sensor (wich is most of them) (The ESM is basicaly your eyes in the dark field, there is no way to detect when and if the enemy is looking at you). So how do we find the enemy then? Using our normal human vision of course... Or sort of, we can also use superpowerfull infrared cameras straped into our ships to see much farther than our eyes, and ESPECIALY IN AIRCRAFT. In naval combat we will mostly find our enemies using our aircrafts, eighter trough the pilots vision, IR cameras, ESM sensors that will pick up the enemies radar if he decides to turn it on for some reason. Thats is in an ideal world, if you can find the enemy like this in theory he will not have a chance to find you when you already know where he is and can fire undetected. (However, this is very rare to be the case in reality, so if we cant be 100% stealthy and find the enemy without he ever getting a wiff of us, the next best thing is to use our aircrafts radar to locate them, because our aircraft can be deployed far away from our main force. In this way we will find the enemy using radar, but we will fool them because they will be counterdetecting our aircrafts radar, and not the main fleet, all the while we will know exactely where they are and still fire at them undetected). About the main tactics... We always want to kill the enemy from as far as we possibly can. We also want to pretty much always fire first if we can. These things give us a massive advantage, because every loss on the enemy side means that he will both have less interceptors to deffend our next full strenght volley and will have less offensive missiles that he can use against us if he counter attacks. Standard protocol when being fired upon is to launch your own missiles straight back at the direction the enemies missiles are comming from, even if you dont know for sure where they are at (because most missiles fly straight, so you can make an educated guess and this will ensure that you will strike back with a full force in case you loose ships to that first volley). And that is also why you dont want to use radar all the time, because if the enemy is very far he may detect your radar, and fire his missiles on your general direction and you wont know about it untill the missiles are already halfway into you. As I will explain later, this is especily dangerous if you play as NATO, because the USSR vastly outranges NATO, so you wont even be able to retaliate unless you have air cover. To maximize range NATO and the USSR had 2 very different ideas on how to do that. NATO relies on tiny shorter range sea skimming missiles to kill their enemies (they carry A LOT of them), because their missiles are shorter range and tiny they can use aircraft to launch them even though their ships also carry them, but the planes can fly suuuper far, shoot the missile and run away, NATO has a huge advantage when it comes to aircraft so its very safe and they are hard to shoot down. The USSR in turn has ENORMOUS, SUPER FAST AND SMART BEHEMOT missiles. They VASTLY outrange their NATO counterparts and are much faster and deadlier warhead. But they cant carry a lot of them. Usualy USSR best tactic is to play for a first strike knock out blow, dump most missiles on their first salvo from very far and run away. If they know NATO has no air cover at that given time USSR has a BIG advantage because they can strike with impunity without fear of imediate retaliation from the US shorter range missiles. That is the gist of surface combat, let me know if you want me to make an Submarine warfare and Anti submarine guide for you where I explain a bit of sonar.

      Bought it release date, it's amazing. Lack of content? Man, one mission just took me 11 hours(carrier group vs carrier group in pacific) It's built for modders, there are hundreds of missions and scenarios already , and a probability system in mission editor(yes, and it's very easy to use), that allows no mission to be the same. I'm tactics kind of guy, but God it's satisfying to see us carrier group defending against 32 kh-58 DEAD strike, with kh-59 disabling blow after it, and then, in an hour after rearm, a fab-500 explosive bombing of Iowa and Nimitz. Have you seen Russian ko-45 strafe Ticonderoga class? I have!

    I don't think the radar was the (primary) problem on your first mission. Submarines in particular make it easy for themselves in that they like to hide behind larger ships, which make their noise an x-fold higher, so you are so to speak blind at this "corner". It's best to use helicopters (if I remember correctly, these are available on 2 ships). But I also have to admit that I didn't survive this mission unscathed (all of my ships were sunk, although at least one submarine too, the first attempt ended similarly to yours). I'm still figuring out the optimal tactics for this mission, and I'll have the solution in the next 10 years (I hope). 🤣

  • @KennyInSubic

    This game is hard core, take your time and learn the ropes. Submarines kick arse.

  • @sionbarzad5371
    @sionbarzad5371 3 дня назад

    You need to cut all radar and sonar by default on the ships, because while you can't compete with subs stealth wise you just need to stay elusive enough for them to approach and get caught by your Helis. You also need distance to deal with torpedos in time as they are quite slow given enough distance. Use the helicopters to drop their buoys ahead of the ships to detect the subs. Keep the ship away from the subs, the helis are more often than not enough to deal with them and in this game, subs can do nothing vs helicopters.

    The problem is that they don't take into consideration those who want to learn but are new to this. Sad. That all these developers do is feed the small segment of the gamer base. The same base. New newbies.

      That is not true about the developing team for this game. There are underlying realities such as the work on the game is self financed (out of their OWN pockets) that forced them to release the game now and not a year later." The game is at a finished enough state to legitimately earn a qualified early access release.

    One tip about noise: you’re right that your ships make more noise when going faster. But even at slow speeds they’re never going to “out-stealth” a submarine. The sub will almost always hear you before you can detect it from your surface ships. That’s where the helos come in because they can help detect subs before they get in striking range of you.

    • @GuyJustCool
      @GuyJustCool 3 дня назад

      @@TheBlackSnake88well active ship sonars they are useless mostly, cuz if sub is in active sonar range(unless you are doing some layer convergence and sound focusing shenenigans) , you are already dead. Tho sonar ping goes 3-10x farther then you can hear its return, and you just are broadcasting your position(not like sub already doesn't know where you are, by your loud as hell propeller, but why even bother) Active is only useful if you know there's a sub next to you already, and its very close, last Dutch pretty much or sub fucked up badly. Passive is king. Best way is to lay buoy nets around you and sometimes all stop and just listen. When you are static(and remember buoys are always static) you can hear way better. Hear better and buoys you can hear torp from father and even sub potentially.

    I've been doing naval milsims since Harpoon in the 1990s. Sea Power strikes me as kind of easy, but I think the game will improve as its AI and features come online. The developer is putting a lot of effort into it. Wait till it's gets challenging, lol! But milsims have a high learning curve, and realistic naval milsims have extremely high learning curves. It takes practice and some study. There are bunch of good tutorials for this game's predecessor, Command: Modern Operations, which can help you understand naval warfare. And Stealth17 has some good tutorials but they're very basic. The positive side is if you can win, it's an accomplishment. Naval warfare makes you think. It's like chess x10. BTW, Ruskie ships had very good missile and torpedo defense in the Cold War. If you're going to take them down, you have to swarm them with Harpoons. Or at least two torpedos per salvo.
