Duo480C: 16" trailerable catamaran build and launch
Просмотров 121 тыс.8 лет назад
This is a video of the Duo480C catamaran built during 10 months in Finland. This is a very light boat, about 200kg so it's easy trailer. Boat is desingned by Bernd Kohler www.ikarus342000.com/CATpage.htm

Hey Mikael, very cool video. How did you get into the wave with the board? Did the boat pull you in with a line? I've recently got a similar setup with a Gong Hipe 5'3 and an Allvator L. So far I've only managed to fly on the line but haven't dared to stand in front of the wave and let go of the line. It would be cool if you could report how you do it. Best regards Steven

Hello Steven! Here are some thoughts that could help :) Firstly i think that it should work with you foil, if the boat/wave size is adequate. In this video was maybe my first or second time behind the boat. After that i have done it 5-6 times and tried at least following Gong foils: Curve xlt, Fluid XXLT, Fluid XLT, Fluid XLS, Fluid LS. It has worked with every of them, but every foil has it's own preferred speed which it likes to fly. So try different speeds with boat. Boat has been about 5-6 meters long without cabin. I think it is easiest to use the second wave of the boat, at least with the boat we have used. So try to use a rope that is just right length to get you on right spot. First you should use a rope to get to the wave. Position the foil high on top of the wave/slightly front of if. Sweet spot is really narrow and foil has to be high enough to capture energy of the wave. But not so high that it will breach. When you are in the right spot you will feel acceleration and increase of lift. You have to anticipate that and push with the front foot to keep foil under water. Try to get the feeling, when you are riding power of the wave. You know it when the rope you are holding becomes slack. First you should keep the slack rope in your hands and as soon as you drop out of the wave you still have the rope to pull you and keep going. This way you don't have to do time consuming restarts. Only after you can ride the wave for longer period >10 second with the rope slack, you just toss the rope away. The person on the boat can then reel rope in and voila, you are riding behind the boat with just wave :)

Hello, an under table dent and all other hungry electricity consumers can be dimmed steplessly with the 5000W dimmer (7, EUR). I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs for 12 hours at a time, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos on my channel ruclips.net/video/eC2olbCBhh0/видео.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because extreme current peaks no longer arrive at the inverter...

I would like to ask couple of questions about the front of your boat....the front looks like it would try to spread apart if there was speed behind it.....why this shape????.....also the bottoms....why so thin.....why not wider for more floatation???..I'm thinking of building a motorized one(40--50 hp).... I have made the 16 foot cabin boat....with pull out extension....you mite like that pull out....gives me 13.5 feet cabin space at night....So I can sleep...eat....fish all aboard.

It's a sailboat. When it goes fast pressure in the sails makes it's lifting the weather hull, and depressing the lee hull; as it needs righting moment. So, the profile of the lee hull is more powerfull than the profile of the weather hull. This way the designer hopes to counter leeway by changing the hull form.
