WHAT type of snags were they

One word that defines the difference in age groups between the UK and the Europeans, " Commercials ". Here in the UK, the young lads involved in angling, are nearly all on our commercials. These types of fisheries don't feature in Europe. That's your difference. So do you pick a team of youngsters that are dominating the match scene at places like Lindholme. Barston, etc etc etc. To take on a team of Bulgarian youngsters to fish a big tidal river?. Mmmm now you have an issue. Do you fish a team of experienced codgers to get a silver, or do you write off your own England managerial career with a team of youngsters off the Carp puddles that finish 14th, 22nd 19th etc etc hoping and believing that one day they will get the hang of it?

I love river fishing and am glad to see this event still going strong. Although the pole is a good method for rivers, I still associate river fishing with rod and running line. Yes, I'm either A) Old school B) A dinosaur or C) A miserable old git (or possibly all three) 😉😆

Great report from one of the "real" matches left. Shame that most like to catch human bred fish from human made ponds aka "fisheries" these days.

We should enjoy it while we still can. Natural venues are the home of the more senior anglers(age wise). Sadly the younger anglers seem to prefer the commercials(guess that is where the money is nowadays). Unless things change in this respect, i very much doubt there will be a " Riverfest 2043". Hope i am wrong.
