This was beautiful, I can imagine the tribes before the Europeans, dancing after a good harvest or hunt and enjoying those fruits among family, the white man called them savages and stole their lands yet they lived a more full life with purpose and peace than most of us today.

I was supposed to be in Ashland today
I have a Good Idea would R&N 425 carry is train from Reading to Steamtown & Buffalo.
I have an Idea would C&O 2760 be restored on the Erie railroad.
The idea is nice, though the reality is highly unlikely considering that it would be extremely difficult to remove 2760 from its current location. Not to mention it is unknown what mechanical condition is in as it spent decades exposed to the elements. I would choose a different locomotive.
@@m611martin Don't worry it will carry the erie Limited once again with CP 1286 with the Lake Cities Limited .

No. It is to be cosmetically restored in its American Freedom Train appearance. Aka AFT 1

I imagine that the shop is full at the moment with the other projects they are working on like the B&O 5300.

Uphill, not really. Downhill can be smokey. Great ride and scenery. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful view of the problem both cars and trains have in Ashland. Blame it on the NIMBYs who don't want a railroad bypass in their neighborhoodw. They probably never go into town to experience the hassle, prefering to work and shop in nearby Richmond. 😢

Probably not. Of course nobody knew back in 2009 when I recorded this video that 611 was ever going to run again. Nowadays I wouldn’t do it.

15 years later and she is now running again. with plans to build a new shed to accommodate her, her mallet sister and another locomotive being returned from chicago

When I was a child, early 70's. This used to be a place where we would come to and explore all the trains, never destroyed anything, just climbed on, ran through, explored. Takes me back.
Question, why was the 611 going the wrong way?? Since obviously it has to be pulled back by diesels??
There are no turning facilities on the Buckingham Branch that I’m aware of. 611 handled the eastbound run from Goshen to Staunton and the diesel’s pulled the train back west.

The cars at the end are part of the Autotrain that Amtrak offers to passengers who wish to take their automobiles with them.

I was in Ashland for train day. First time making it to Ashland in a year and a half I may have said it before but I have cam control there
Ahhh, gotcha. My girlfriend and I were planning to go to that, but we just couldn’t make it for that as I had to work. I think I remember you saying that you do. Cool. Let me know when you come up here. My girlfriend and I live 5 minutes from the station.

I’ve rode this train here a few times
I used to travel on board Amtrak 65, 67 Southbound to RVM, WBG and NPN, all before Covid-19. Then would take 66 Northbound to ALX. Brings back some precious memories. Good Times. Now I think #66 is part of the Roanoke Amtrak Service routing. Back when 66 was part of the Northbound service NPN-BOS. Williamsburg, Newport News, Richmond Main Street and Boston South Station. All the 3-letter city codes. Awesome from head to toe!

Most excellent catch of the Northeast Regional at RVM: Richmond Main Street Station. This train arrives at RVM at around 10-something in the morning, daily, going to NPN: Newport News, VA? Is this correct? Awesome work 💪. You rock! Keep up your Amtrak videos. They are really good, great solid job.
