i only found this because of my nekoweb retardation activities but this channel is awesome af. godspeed with the engine, blew the engine on my fiesta st shitbox a few weeks ago after putting a big turbo on it, so im glad i get to laugh at random people on the internet instead of fixing it.
omg jayz from rap if it makes u feel better i just swapped this in less than a year ago with NO turbo and i spun a rod bearing while making a little drive to the dentist so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

was probably on its way out for whatever reason. You can rebuild the engine cheap with a kit. just gotta make sure crank is good so it'll have to go to a machine shop. KA can hold a lot of power and be reliable if done right. Don't go into debt before you start drifting lol
the crank is kinda cooked:( im gonna bring it into a local shop that redid my single cam crank and see if its beyond a good polish. hopefully its good because every other bearing weirdly looks mint, cylinder 3 just decided to turn into a neutron star

Rotella sucks now since they changed the formula. Not sure if it matters as much for 240sx’s but it does for Mazdaspeed3’s. I just use pennzoil euro 5w40
ka's will run on dog shit if you can stuff it down the oil fill hole lmao, im still gonna put the normal oil back in it tho cuz ive been scared straight. im taking the engine apart and theres like 0 sign of failure anywhere idk how the bearings failed:[
my single cam sounded kinda like this everyone told me it was knocking and i did timing chain and it fixed it
yea ka's are known for their loud timing chains but this ones blown, it sounds like 10x worse irl. ill probably do a motor teardown in the next vid:p

Could be worth pulling off the timing cover and seeing if the tensioners decided to eat themselves. did a rebuild on mine recently since I bought the car with a blown motor, had another head sitting around to swap on it because the valves were all bent, but honestly they're fairly easy to do the rebuild on, if you do go that route and buy the aftermarket timing kit use the oem intermediate gear that the distributor interfaces with because the aftermarket one isn't cut correctly and makes timing the thing extremely difficult.. I run rotella 15w40 in both my KA and the L28 in my datsun and seems to run good and I kinda doubt that was the cause to anything here.
i really appreciate the info i love learning about these and talking to people with experience. i have the tools to rebuild it in my garage so if the crank/rods aren't damaged beyond a resurfacing i could probably build a nice motor for about as much as i'd spend buying someone else's beat ka plus i'd have piece of mind. glad to hear it wasn't the rotella though it was super hot this summer and i was already doing the oil pan so i thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to go with a thicker weight on this old engine
@@destroyallhumans3 forsure! I had to resurface my pistons with a grinder because the valves ate into them quite a bit lmao, should be able to wiggle those rod bearings to feel for any play or whatever when you have the pan off of it and turn it over to make sure they all return to the same height relative to each-other on the top of the block. also s14 cams are smaller so if you have good s13 ones i’d run those if you can. I think i’ll be doing another rebuild on mine sometime to probably address the rings and valve stem seals in mine due to the high milage and questionable condition of the donor head but it at least has some power to do skids ;)
@@emulsionvhs69 i always wanted s13 cams! i can never find them for a good price though, ive thought about the 242/242 setup too but i heard its kinda underwhelming since ka's torque is mainly in the mid range. i checked the timing components and they look mint, still gonna tear it down out of curiosity but i think i have my sights set on a 1uz swap at this point
