Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 : GAS Super Stearman Preview (EARLY)
ok - here is the preview video of the Super in the Gene Littlefield livery.
The project is still in EARLY stages. It is a WIP preview and is not fully representative of the aircraft as it will be upon release.
There will be some new features and a completely and professionally reworked wWise sound suite for this aircraft (thank you Mike at SimAcoustics) and Didier is doing his sorcery on the model and FDE as we watch this brief exposition. Paul Corish has put together a very talented team on this project as Jan Kees Blom is working on the textures. I think his artistry is highly regarded for good reason. Again - all of what you see in this video is a work in progress.

People have their opinions about Aeroplane Heaven and anyone who visits the official forum will know there is some justification but it's become just a flogging horse. That said - aircraft sounds are a bit light. I have to really boost the bass and subwoofer to hear what I think is closer to where it should be. I tried...

I loved this airplane in FSX but it's even better here. This is a longish flight for the channel at 1:04 run time. This is on the latest Nvidia driver updated today but I haven't cleared the old shader cache yet. There was a bit of micro stuttering - recorded at 4k resolution at around 50FPS on average.

      to be determined by the Boss but usually GAS includes 5 or 6 to keep the download and your disc space manageable, as opposed to the dozen or more you might see elsewhere. Keep in mind that there will be plenty of 3rd party repaints for the GAS Super Stearman aircraft

    I love these old radial engine airplanes. My only suggestion is to shorten the length of your videos and you should see an uptick in views. Great plane! I took it to period WW2 Midway and Wake Island for a shakedown. The cockpit feels better then the DC-3 and I have a feeling the mods will be released to shore up any shortcomings. A GPS would be a nice mod to add. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! I gave you a sub 👍

      thank you for viewing and joining - much appreciated. My typical GA flights are about 20-30 minutes. These twin radial flights are going to average 45-60 minutes due to the most common nature of their use. I am not really bent on max viewership as these videos are less for entertainment than they are for evaluation. I use them to compare my PC performance related to scenery and aircraft addons, GPU and sim updates, my own or the settings tweaks of others, and so on. To be fully honest they also serve as sleep aids for my recent bouts of insomnia. Since YT places adds on the ones that reach more than 100 views I figure I'm paying for the service and its all copacetic.

    I had a friend who passed away in 2005, who actually flew the C-46 in the CBI theater during WWII - he had an AVG / CBI theater card. These aircraft were typically flown with the following cargo: Aircraft and jeep parts and tires, firearms and munitions, 55 gallon drums of engine oil and avgas, Chinese laborers and tools for the creation of crushed coral runways and airbases, and food and water parcels along with the mail. Often these planes were overloaded based on the duration of the flight (fuel load) the altitude they needed to maintain, and the short length of some of their destination airstrips. He said they flew pretty well in all aspects of flight except for the landing approach. They wallowed like a water buffalo, taking a long time after pilot control inputs to 'settle down' and that the problem was exacerbated by the cargo load weight and the short narrow runways they often had to use. He said you needed a lot more than the recommended (manual) airspeed in many cases but had to factor in the short runways - weather was often a factor in the region - ice at high altitudes - and strong winds that could make a slow heavy aircraft ever harder to control on the approach. A few years before he passed we went to the local airshow at Gillespie field where the CAF was showing their flyable C-46 'China Doll' so we climbed in and John was really excited to walk forward to the flight deck. He started talking a mile a minute to the point that the CAF pilot came over to us and asked John about his service. When my friend John Dorn showed that feller his pilot cert. and his CBI card he took a step back - "you want to fly it? - we'll push it back right now" he says. No says John (no longer flight certified - age taken its toll) - but can I sit in the left seat for a minute. The guy says take as long as you want. We talked about the old days - the changes between the original panel and controls vs this one's updated or cobbled panel, and how the beast flew for the most part - pretty well, but like a set of car keys on final to landing. He had the CAF pilot laughing til it hurt. It was a memorable day.

    I notice you have this flight for both the DC-3 and this module. How do you feel they compare? How is the quality of this C-46?

    • @heywoodplanes6651
      @heywoodplanes6651 Месяц назад

      yes - that was purpose of the two recordings. Here is my opinion - and from the videos you can see how I fly them. I am not one to bash a developer so you wont hear that stuff from me. The DC-3 here has the duckworks mod installed - the C-46 is just as AH made it. I like them both and I think AH did a good job on these contracted 'special release' aircraft for MS/ASOBO - given that they are meant to be used by both PC and xBox users 'as is'. I have no doubt they both would have been a bit better developed if made for independent release and without the Marketplace/xBox requirements - but as they are - they are both decent representations. That said the engine startup is a bit buggy in the C-46 and it has other idiosyncrasies - I would like to be able to see a passenger interior AND be able to remove the cargo and have a different flight model reflect those changes. But for less than 10$ I will not complain

    Why DCS ? lately the stuttering in MSFS has gotten under my skin. MS flight sims have always been akin to playing whack a mole. The endless battle for better frame rates and less stuttering, sometimes caused by sim updates, sometimes by a 3rd party addon, sometimes by a new graphics driver, sometimes by server issues, or maybe its your IP, or an OS update - who knows what is causing the latest jam. It's like those safety signs you see in the warehouse stores - "we've gone x days without an accident" but with MSFS 'x' is always a single digit number. So I'm finally tired of it to the point that here's a DCS video. KEY NOTE - the other important reason to take a break from MSFS is the incomprehensible lack of a FLYBY VIEW

  • @nuversion8673
    @nuversion8673 Месяц назад

    I just bought this last night when I found out it was actually available. I've been waiting for the C-46 Commando on this sim and its finally here! I used it in FS9 and FSX for a lot of years and had a lot of fun making my own cargo missions. I spent a lot of time tweaking the sound files and creating textures and livery's for it but you could only do so much. Unfortunately FS2020 is not as easy to work with as far as modifying sound and aircraft config files. I have to rely on third party mods these days to do all that. I hope some talented people find ways to remedy some of the short comings of this wonderful airplane. I'm looking forward to making more cargo missions and bring back all those fun years. Very nice landing and great job taxiing this beautiful tail dragger! Nice video! Thanks for posting 🙂

    Do you use primarily wood glue to build the airframe or do us use CA glue?

    • @heywoodplanes6651
      @heywoodplanes6651 2 месяца назад

      I use CA in the medium viscosity for 90 percent of the structural components and the infilling. However - I use white glue applied with a 1/2" wide brush on the interior walls of the infilled fuselage and wings - as I get the larger areas infilled. This is to add durability and strength to the backside of the infill overall - to prevent 'push through' on any individual infill piece that might not have gotten a good CA bond along all four sides during initial installation. The only other time I might use a white glue or a Titebond II or other yellow woodworking glue is if I'm gluing the larger components together or larger surface area wood to wood components and need the slow bonding and curing time to make adjustments (wings to fuselage, or the vertical fin and stabilizer to fuselage - that kind of thing) Hope this answers your question. No - I've seen Islandsimpilots videos and like the idea of upgrading the Bing maps data but have concerns about how the photogrammetry will work with it. Also how future sim updates will be affected. And toward the end of my FSX experience I finally stopped chasing FPS and visual tweaks and mods. The effort became bigger than the simple fun of just running the sim and flying. That has carried over to my approach to MSFS. the KISS principle basically.

    When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, Guilows models were in all the hobby shops, but the stamping dies were old and worn out. We had to cut the pieces out with an Exacto knife. The edges were crushed from the dies not being sharp and they were a real nightmare to build. Does anyone else remember this?

      yes - the Guillow kits of that era are referred to as 'die crushed' instead of die cut. Most of the stamping equipment was upgraded I think in the mid 90's and now many of their kits are laser cut with more kits being transitioned over as money ant time allows. This kit #1001 was a die cut model purchased and started 3 years ago and the parts were well defined - no crushing.

    That's some incredible work, well done! I've never even thought about building one of these as a static model, you've given me ideas for something new to try.

      It opens up another world. More aircraft types and in a larger scale. Let me know how it goes!

      @@heywoodplanes6651 I picked up the Spirit of St. Louis from e-Bay today. I've always wanted to build a model of this aircraft after watching the Jimmie Stewart movie as a kid. Currently I'm in the middle of a large PT-Boat build but after I'm done I'll start on this kit. I'll have to start putting videos up of my builds, I have just a few poorly shot videos up now. I've just bought a new camera too so I'll start making better videos and shooting some progress of my PT-Boat build too. Thanks for the inspiration to try something different.

      @@MA-iv7ol terrific news - I am a big Jimmy Stewart fan and have watched that film more times than I can count. The Spirit kit from Guillow is a good one. My greatest hope for this channel is to inspire others as I have been inspired by the works of so many modelmakers. Good luck on all of your projects mate

    As they say, the Devil's in the details. I get a pretty good feeling on completing a model, whether plastic or balsa and try to put something extra into each project

      I agree with you. I was going to leave it as one piece even after making the rails for it - I didn't want to damage it in the process - but then I remembered that its the little chances you take in life that make living more...fun. Besides - Guillow sells all of their canopies as spare parts so I could have remade it if I stepped in something. Thank you for staying with the project and posting your support. Much appreciated

    Wow a lot of work for that kit. I built a Comet P-47 when i was a kid. It was my first powered free flight kit. I stuck a Cox 020 on it and a few drops of fuel. I launched it and it proceeded to make a 150-200 ft loop over my head, i had to duck when it came to the bottom, i was giddy and amazed. All i had done prior was a few rubber powered Comet kits. I was amazed how well it flew especially after i got the correct amount of rudder trim in it. Self taught just magazines to glean for guidance. Nothing better than the elliptical wing and the light shining thru the stick and tissue structure forever stuck in my head. Thanks for sharing your build.
