I hate how colorism is passed down. My cousin is a young GenZ and just had a baby. She’s light skinned herself and has a well-accepted hair texture. When we first met her baby girl, I was heartbroken to hear her talk about how her daughter was going to be light skinned (her hubby is dark skinned) and how she had a head full of hair. IMO, she seemed to say it for US more than it was that she cared about these things. And when I say “us”, I really mean the outside world who happened to be the family at the moment. 😢 I still hate that she has to acknowledge it and feel like her daughter’s features are a breath of fresh air bc she will be lighter skinned and already has a head full of hair. I don’t want my family looking for those things when I have kids. BTW, I don’t remember her having “tons” of hair as a baby or a kid but she turned out just fine. I see white toddlers running around with little wisps of hair and their parents don’t seem bothered. Black people believe it’s a doom to be birthed without being as hairy as possible. It never made sense to me. Idk, I remember how I was treated. The good (for my skin tone) and the bad (for my hair), and I’m keeping a firm grip around my children’s image. My parents didn’t understand how much reaffirming I needed after spending time with family outside of them and while at school. The outside world is mean and you have to refill your children’s cup and spirit twice as much by the time they reenter your home.. (and my parents didn’t let me go many places, but the little they did - I was torn down so much that by the time I was older I didn’t recognize when to alert my mom and dad of it bc I thought it was normal) Love on your kids, and break the myths!

Unfortunately as a black woman who grew up around ALOT of Indians, everything Ms Kora said IS VERY VERY TRUE. I've even seen beautiful dark Indians that were lighter than ME passed over for marriage because she was 'too dark'. It's sickening. I haven’t seen anyone else mention this but kid also kept a straight finger on his gun so to me it looks like he really didn’t want to hurt the man either. He knows he isn’t a killer deep down.
