Brandi Reads and Stitches

Добавлен 18 дек 2018
Welcome to Brandi Reads. I started this channel as just a book review channel for ARC's received through my brick and mortar bookstore. As life has grown and shifted and I have taken on new hobbies as well as still running the bookstore I am expanding my channel to reflect those changes as well. I will now be doing book reviews and hand embroidery and in as many cases as possible I will be combining the two and doing book reviews while stitching embroidery patterns based on book covers or elements of the books being reviewed. I hope you enjoy and as always, Thanks for watching!

Who Are the Great Women of Classic Literature? Let Me Tell You My Favorites!
This one is so cute! It’s coming along nicely. I keep watching for more.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I will be posting updates soon.
This is so pretty! I love how you took two things you enjoy doing and combined them to create something so unique.
@@BrandiAtchison thank you!😊
This is such a creative idea. I'm excited to see how this turns out!
@@BrandiAtchison thank you so much! Keep following for more videos and updates.
Do you show how to join the quilt blocks? These blocks are beautiful
@@LisaLisa-zl9vu thank you so much! I will show that once I get to that stage in the process. I will also be adding the backing fabric.
@@brandireads oh good! Much thanks
I really like the look that thread gives this square.
@@BrandiAtchison thanks! I thought so too!
This looks like so much fun! I hope he appreciates how much love and effort you have put into making this quilt for him.
Thank you! I hope he does too. I think he will have to get a bit older before he really understands that though.
So neat!
@@BrandiAtchison thank you! 😊
That's a hard one. I like them all. The brown does show up well.
@@BrandiAtchison thank you. Yes it does.
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
@@MSEmbroideryAari thank you! 😊
Sometimes you just need some retail therapy. It's extra therapy when you can get new threads and things you can turn into something beautiful.
Sorry everyone. Sound cut out for a few seconds at 11:58. I think that was when my headphones were telling me "Battery low, please charge".
I was very interested in your process, but had to stop the video as the background music was so distracting. Sorry, but really music is not necessary.
@@franwilson9324 thank you for the advice.
This is so neat!
Thank you!
This is so pretty! I am inspired to try my own attempt at slow stitching.
Thank you so much! I would love to see what you do.
I love these materials and the idea of this. I may have to follow your lead and make my grandbabies crazy quilts.
@@BrandiAtchison thank you so much!
I enjoyed your video. I discovered slow stitching earlier this year. I don' t know why it took me so long to know about it because I watch. RUclips a lot. I was crocheting a lot & watching those videos. Anyway, I have mostly been making purses & small pouches & needlebooks. I loved hearing the birds in your video. Do you have a pet bird?
@@auctiongirl48 thank you so much! I don’t have a bird like you are thinking. We have chickens, but we are surrounded by woods and lots of wildlife.
Nice
@@Naheed-o2m thank you 😊

Mary Shelley--queen of sci-fi, Daphne du Maurier--queen of gothic romance, Clarice Lipector--queen of literary fiction, Agatha Christie--queen of mystery and Margaret Atwood--queen of dystopians. When you're done with these you sound like a poet--if so you should read Maya Angelou and Louisa May Alcott too
good review!
Your definition of grace is questionable, as it was the handouts/governments programs made by Roosevelt post Great Depression which gave people, limited by circumstance, means to survive. The women and children in this this story were limited by social constructs about their place in society, colorism and racism, blind faith, and certain men’s unwillingness to change. It was literally and figuratively starving them from life. The community of kind people, people with the grace to understand the present conditions AND have the courage to make changes, learn new things (by reading books), helping one another PLUS the government programs are what helped them survive such harsh conditions.
Love this book and the author!
I’m reading this book now. Thank you for making me want to read it more! Beautiful review.
I loved this book I hope Dolly does more like this.
I agree. It was lots of fun.
I liked the book. However, her invention wasn't adopted because she was a woman as this reviewer suggests. It was not adopted because of cost, time, and size.
Thank you, Brandi. You are perfect for this job and I love this story! How do we change history to be our history, too!!!?
Wonderful Loved this book
Thank you for the information. However Cussy, is a fictional character and the book itself is fiction, based on historical facts. The author in her notes even gives the actual dates of when certain events actually took place as she altered them in the store to fit her timeline.
According to other sources the last blue person was Benjamin Stacy who was born in 1975. I think you need to check your facts. Cussy was not the last blue person.
hey Mr wilkipedia. What part of historical FICTION do you not understand. It's labeled fiction
Hi Brandi! Anne Perkins (YALE NEEDS WOMEN) gave me the tipp: The Only Woman in the room by Marie Benedickt. Look Twitter page Anne Perkins November 26
I'm surprised you've only mentioned Austen and the Brontë sisters. Have you not read many classic female authors? In either case I thought I would share some I enjoyed. Thought I would mention Ann Radcliffe just in case. She's done some great gothic novels. She wrote The mysteries of Udolpho, which Austen parodied in Northanger Abbey, if you haven't read it, I strongly recommend it. "Less" known is Aphra Behn, she's written a hefty amount of plays which I really enjoyed. I read only 1 novel by her that being Oroonoko, which talks about a slave who has a lot charm. Moving away from the west there is a Japanese classic author Murasaki Shikibu who wrote A tale of Genji. The work itself looks at a life of a prince and his dealings. What's more exciting is, it is known as the first novel ever written, sometime in 11th century if I recall correctly. Lastly I must mention Virginia Woolf, my all time favourite female writer. She's well known for Mrs Dalloway, which documents a life of a hostess. I like her use of stream of consciousness and found it easier than that Joyce wrote. Those are some classic female writers I enjoy. Obviously there's more, but I cherry picked a few. I must ask, are you not a fan of George Elliot? If so, how come? It would be interesting to hear about your favourite classic male writers as well. Hope you found something new through my recommendations. Cheers!
Blaž J thank you so much for the recommendations. I'll definitely check them out. I have read several others but picked my favorites for this video. I have not read the ones you mentioned but look forward to finding them. The one from 1100's especially. There are definitely way too many greats to mention them all or read them all and still keep up with current novels as well. 😬. That's my dilemma anyway. Thanks again for the comment and suggestions.
I loved Marie Benedict's book about Mileva Maric (Albert Einstein's first wife). Sooooo good! This new book of hers sounds like another good one.
It really is a great read. I have not read The Other Einstein, but all the reviews I've read it does sound great. I've added it to my TBR list.
I agree with your selections for female authors of classic literature. I love Jane Austen. My fave books by Austen is Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park. I also love Charlotte Bronte - particularly Jane Eyre and Villette. Another great classic is Ruth Hall by Fanny Fern (pen name - I'm not sure what the author's real name was).
Hi April Berry! Thanks so much for subscribing. I have not read Fanny Fern, but will definitely look her up. Thanks again! Have a great day!
So, you're saying I should add this to my TBR?
Leslie Scott absolutely!
I’ve got this one on my TBR. Planning on doing a TBR jar with this as one of the books included!
That sounds like a great idea! Keep me posted. I know you will love this book.
Sounds like an interesting read! Love the outtakes lol
Brad Watson thank you. Still hoping I get better at this. Lol
Brandi Reads this one was good! You’ll get more comfortable the more of them you do! Good start to your channel!
Thank you! Be on the lookout for the one coming next week.
I can't wait to read the book!
It is a great one!
