Augmenting Perceived Softness through Transient Vibration and Visuo-Haptic Illusion in VR
Просмотров 1 тыс.4 года назад
In this work, we investigate the effects of active transient vibration and visuo-haptic illusion to augment the perceived softness of haptic proxy objects. We introduce a system combining active transient vibration at the fingertip with visuo-haptic illusions. In our hand-held device, a voice coil actuator transmits active transient vibrations to the index fingertip, while a force sensor measur...
An untethered isoperimetric soft robot
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.4 года назад
A large-scale, isoperimetric, untethered, soft robot changes shape by manipulating constant-length inflated tubes using movable joints. shapeShift: A Mobile Tabletop Shape Display for Tangible and Haptic Interaction
Просмотров 21 тыс.7 лет назад
shapeShift is a compact, high-resolution (7 mm pitch), mobile tabletop shape display. We explore potential interaction techniques in both passive and active mobile scenarios. In the passive case, the user is able to freely move and spin the display as it renders elements. We introduce use cases for rendering lateral I/O elements, exploring volumetric datasets, and grasping and manipulating obje...
Grabity: A Wearable Haptic Interface for Simulating Weight and Grasping in Virtual Reality
Просмотров 9 тыс.7 лет назад
Ungrounded haptic devices for virtual reality (VR) applications lack the ability to convincingly render the sensations of a grasped virtual object's rigidity and weight. We present Grabity, a wearable haptic device designed to simulate kinesthetic pad opposition grip forces and weight for grasping virtual objects in VR. The device is mounted on the index finger and thumb and enables precision g...
A Soft, Controllable, High Force Density Linear Brake Utilizing Layer Jamming
Просмотров 5 тыс.7 лет назад
While much work has focused on the design of actuators for inputting energy into robotic systems, less work has been dedicated to devices that remove energy in a controlled manner, especially in the field of soft robotics. Such devices have the potential to significantly modulate the dynamics of a system with very low required input power. In this paper, we leverage the concept of layer jamming...

Where can I buy this but bigger?
Nice.
Hi, how can I contact you guys, I want to build this thing. Please help
nice
imagine a giant one rolling at you across a battlefield
This must feel so weird, moving your hand in a straight line but seeing it move in a curve
very interesting !!
Now, make this Warehouse scale and add AR to the mix and we have Holodecks
Using a Leap Motion with these gizmos was a great idea.
ah! i see you see the possibility of holodeck application in this too! nice!
can u collaborate with me to this technique, actually i need it in another field
Glad I was watching at 2x when the 6 minute mark rolled around. lmao
What are the use cases for this?
Hey that's cool
Haha lmao
You have hp 18 pc?
probably
Nice video
This is the future. Imagine instead of a few hundred elements there are 100k of them or more. Amazing!
The robots are so cute but the Doggooooo
Amazing!!

So... Where do I buy one? I want that in VRchat! :v
WOW from a giant 900 sensor table to this is truly amazing
What is the name of these sensors?
It has multiple 1. Touch sensors 2. Micro Antenna (Antennas are Considered sensors) 3. Positional Tracking sensor
The same technology (shape-shifting) could be also adapted to help deaf-blind people using a 'real time 2-way braille translator'. For instance 'texting' or communicating over the web with other people. Just a thought...

the dog is so cute
Why hasn't no one else liked this amazing technology?
Nice experiment... the only problem is that in current form factor it seems suitable only for certain kind of simulations
Awesome stuff guys..... I love seeing the progression of VR tech.
really cool stuff, i can only imagine it wouldnt be very durable and might break easily?
SAO is coming :O
great
cool
