Why You SHOULD Learn a New Language! If You're Trying to Decide If or When to Start WATCH THIS
I'm from the UK, and I'm learning German and recently got my A1 certificate, and I'm not stopping there. I'm going to get my A2 and continue to at least B2.
Duolingo's error rate in Spanish is nearly 30%. They do not use Royal Academy standards for grammar or syntax. They don't use modern models, either. It's **not** free. Free students are harassed into a paid service by a "hearts" system and incessant advertising. They try to break focus to keep you on the site longer. It's a scam, not an educational tool.
Duolingo is just awful. The error rate and dropout rates are outrageously high. It's an ad platform, not a learning tool.
I don’t understand why duolingo don’t have the romanized language . Like in Japanese and Chinese . I agree with her btw . I feel like quitting Korean on duolingo and learning it somewhere else because of their poor learning methods .
Queretaroo!!
Honestly idk why add so many languages if they won't offer quality on them. The app might be good for a few languages, but for what I've watched and tried so far, Korean is not one of them
What an useful video, thanks for the info! Greetings from Argentina
It's only helped me to read hangeul much faster, but in terms of grammars/words I already new a lot before and I think for learning new stuff is bad.
Youre missing a spanish/ mexican accent. And spanish in southwestern usa is mostly slang. Remember it took the spanish conquistadors ~600 years to land in south america and make their way up to southwestern usa and the language changes as they interacted with different cultures
And now I am switching to Pimsleur. I have tried Duolingo for a week completing 7 units, but still doesn't feel like I can speak Korean aside from Hello, Thank You and Goodbye. Most words I learned were random and I am not able to incorporate in my daily conversation.
Thank you! Examples time stamp 2:15 ✨Completely off-topic, but you look so naturally beautiful!
Do u use any online language learning sites? If you do, could you recommend one for Japanese or Spanish. I dont need to be able to write. I am looking for conversational profiency. 😊
How was your experience?
Oh you chose Yoichi single cask 10Y! Great choice! 👍
I studied Spanish for a long time, and I just started learning Japanese last summer.
I got a free 3-month trial of Super Duolingo. I wasn't sure where to start. So, now I know to start with the consonants. It appears the first few lessons are centered around the memorization of vowels, consonants, and the combinations of each. It's only been two days. Due to a tbi it's challenging to memorize things. I like Duolingo's memorization technique. I works with how my current brain processes. I do intend to supplement with a variety of Korean Hangul videos. I have age-related hearing loss and it's become hard for me to differentiate certain sounds in English...doubly so in Korean. The video you suggested is EXACTLY what I need. She's very CLEAR in how each letter sounds and the visual cues are a bonus. With her method of teaching, I not only HEAR how each letter should sound, I can also SEE how it should sound.
You can’t use it at all without paying for it but I’m really enjoying Japanese and my Spanish has really improved but Duolingo has a lot of work as an app.
As someone who has been trying to learn Korean in my free time from Duolingo I have to say this review is so spot on. Everything she said was 1000% correct. Also the robot voice for Korean is so terrible. Even if it were speaking English I wouldn't be able to understand that thing. It speaks unnaturally fast, everything sounds like robot mush, and half the sounds are wrong anyway.
Thank you Your speaking skill is very easy for understand love from 🇧🇩
Is there any new opportunity like these nowadays work for your stay
I want to travel to Japan but I don't have money
the reason why i search and click this video is the same reason explained in this video. doulingo korean is i think worst. there are better resources from apps, youtube, courses etc. but let's just give a doulingo a respect. some of us still do love it. for me, doulingo is nothing more than a quickstarter. that's what it's good for.
I don't wanna be taught grammar; at least not as my first intruduction to a language. I think duolingo is great at teaching in an organic way. Also what do you mean you couldn't pick up on what sounds the characters made and had to look it up elsewhere? There's a whole section for that on the main page. I think people just take advange of the fact that it is socially acceptable to shit on Duolingo.
I just started it a few days ago, got through the first unit. Had noticed the same problems you mentioned. All of your comments are spot on. But not only. I, an absolute beginner, noticed mistakes! One or two symbols/pronunciations were off. And then in unit 2's guidebook, an example reads 이개미 = the child's yoyo . I stopped using the app and started researching. I'm afraid of continuing and absorbing mistakes instead of learning. Pity, because, as you said, it's not so useful for learning, but it *is* a fun and light way to practice reading.
Your so beautiful🥰
Yes! This validates my experience and I'm glad it's not just me!! This was a great video and I will definitely be watching more :)
They use to have explanations and lessons for Korean grammar on the the computer version of Duolingo, but they got rid of it all when they updated to the new path layout. I used to love Duolingo, but the decisions they've made have decreased it's usefulness. Plus the more I learned outside of Duolingo the more mistakes I caught in their content. Now that they are moving to AI to construct new subject matter, I expect it will get even worse.
what do you use to study korean now?
You're beautiful
It's horrible, I'm 19 units in and learned a bunch of random animals that don't exist in KOrea but I still don't know the days of the week
That really must be frustrating. I am only 7 units in and I guess I am switching.
Excellent review, you said what had to be said for those of us who have been really frustrated and discouraged by Duo Korean
Duolingo Korean is the only Duolingo course I have given up on completely, at least for a break of a year... I still recommend their Hungarian, Welsh, Irish, Greek, Finnish, Arabic and even their not very accessible Hebrew offerings
Yeah
I just got back from a 7 day trip to Japan- just a tourist thing but I also visited two friends from there. Now I’m back in the US and I feel so disoriented and homesick or something… it’s like my heart is still there in Japan and I don’t know what to do with myself. I feel so confused because I feel like I don’t know where my home is anymore. I wish to feel home
This video is one year ago… The Duolingo I have now is different. You can read, listen , You do not need to write and give you hint how to write Korean structure sentences. I like it because I am taking online courses either native Koreans and it’s helpful.
So this is 10 months ago comment i want to ask u did u learn fluent atleast like can u talk normally korean ??? Cuz rn im also going on through duolingo korean
But for me it’s perfect for pronouncing words and sentences . You can go back and repeat and listen Duolingo saved new words you learned. It’s good if you taking online classes to understand Korean grammar .
You also used to be able to enter the comments and hope that a nice native speaker could explain it, but they removed the comments 😡
Promo SM 😃
Duolingo is better as a companion to Rosetta Stone, which is what they were originally modeled after. It uses nearly the same vocab and grammar in the same order. So it’s good way to compound what you learn from Rosetta. Otherwise I can’t imagine it being helpful. And holy sh is the pronounciation god awful
Thank you, I thought it was just me. Everything you said literally happened to me.
You really Beautiful 👌
I agree with the sounds. It seems like they didn't go back to re record bad recordings that are hard to hear
My dream destiantion is Japan, and im not sure about how you did this but is there anyway I cld join you next time? hehe
I will definitely use these in my language-learning process! Thanks for sharing! - - - "Learning a language is 'easy. I will learn this language. My goal is to have a lesson once or twice a week"😤😅
Hi! I'm currently learning Korean on Duolingo and I definitely agree with all of what you said (except maybe the lives system, I do think it helps tell people that when it gets difficult, it maybe is better to take a rest and stop binge-learning). The audios are very often of bad-quality. I also had to go watch a video to learn how to read and pronounce because Duolingo's audios would sometimes either cut halfway or just sound the same. I'm glad I found your review! It comforts me in the idea that I'd rather be off with a textbook than with the app
Well, the lives system is only a thing for the installed mobile app. The website not uses it, only for unit final tests and unit skips but there the lives are just mistake counters and always instatntly refills when you try it again.
When it comes to speaking Asian languages early on in using the app they don’t really tell you how the sentence structure is different with Japanese either
Do you specifically need a yellow card ?
I love this city, thanks for posting this! Love seeing all the cempasúchil!
Me who's been learning both for months :>
