Did you change the z axis assembly or it the original one?
Nope, it is the stock Z carriage, however I did install our 80mm spindle mount instead of using theirs.
The support KB mentions $340 (should be 0 or 5 depending on the version of the SLB), $374 = 192000, $375 = 50, $392 = 6, and $476 = 1
A better name for this would be "power draw bar" which is what Tormach calls the feature on their CNC mills.
is there any instructions or way to use the 1F buildbotics controller with the atc? hate to buy a new machine just to add an atc
how does the wood chips affect the atc? looks like that would be a major issue on keeping the z axis zero from tool change to tool change
does your spindles and controller automaticlly change rpm as the feed rate changes so the chip load is always the same duringa carve?
once you find the distance between 2 tool sockets it should be the same distance between the rest of the tool slots
Are the bits axisymmetrical in the part that is grabbed by the ATC? I mean, does the spindle always stop at the same angular position to be able to hold the bits?
ISO20 is a standard that defines the removable chuck. that cone shape ensures the tip of the bit is sitting in the exact same z height every time. That z-offset of each tool is stored within the controller for next time. The ISO20 cone is pulled tightly into the ATC motor to ensure it's in the same position. The motor also discharges air in various locations to keep dust from building up.
Can someone confirm why I’d want to trigger the auto-forward- in layman’s terms? I’m a newb 😅 Is it just so that we don’t have to manually hit start/stop on the VFD every time or am I missing something? Because yeah, that would be super convenient!
One of the awesome things about a spindle system is having it start, spin up to speed, and stop all automatically. These commands are already added to gcode design files (M3, M4, M5, and S) Problem is that many of these hobby level cnc machines do not have a means of sending those commands out to spindle systems like ours. That's ok as this video reveals that our VFD is smart enough to know when it's being asked to ramp up to speed by simply watching the PWM signal which is specifically controlled by the S command. For Shapeokos the PWM ranges from 0-5v which corresponds to 0-24000rpms. When the PWM signal is at 2.5v it's half the spindle speed which is 12000rpms.
Is the ATC system compatible with the UK electrical system of 240v?
It is yes. Our VFD is available in either 220v or 110v. You'd chose the 220v option as it can handle up to 250v input. The PE or pneumatics enclosure, has an auto-switching power supply... it can support input voltages up to 250v as well. We don't source plugs from around the world, but we do provide you with the proper cable for here in the US. Our recommendation for international customers is cut the US plug off the cable and attach the corresponding plug for your country.
At 18:58 you talk about the fine dust extractor fitting and hose clamp at the top. Can you tell me where I can find there on your shop for sale, please.
Hello Chriswoodworker... here's a few links for you. The first is the actual fein boot adapter: pwncnc.com/products/boot-adapter?variant=39662083342475 The second is a special adapter that'll let you plug that into our MagLock connector on the boot: pwncnc.com/products/maglock-converter I'm pointing these two items out at 19:56
can u also make this work on a foxalien or anolex? should work since its the same principle right?
Hi! What CAM software do you use when making your g code? Is there any video of how to set up a CAM software to use this setup easy every time? Thanks for the video! Really great information!
I, personally, use CarvoCo as my CAD software, but as far as the Masso goes, the CAM software is actually firmware built directly into the Masso G3 controller.
Great video. Will be purchasing the spindle kit shortly. Have a question... You mention in the video that SLB Firmware $16=Enabled, however, your CNC Controller Guide for SLB dated 11/4/2024 has $16=All Off. Can you please clarify if the Controller Guide Settings should be followed over the video? Thanks again!
Hello Cablsurfin, you are correct... the video does mention $16 enabled, we have since learned $16=all-off is the better choice. Our ability to edit the videos is extremely limited once it's published. I will update the description so it's more clear to follow our KB: support.pwncnc.com/kb/article/468-super-long-board/ Thank you for bringing up this mistake so we can get it corrected.
Hello how much ?
Upgrading from one of our Spindle systems is as low as $2800 for the 110v model or a complete ATC System starting at $3600. This is a true industrial plug-n-play automatic tool changing system. pwncnc.com/products/atc
How good is this at hogging aluminum? I have a langmuir mr1 that i want to add ATC to. I do exclusively aluminum parts.
Our ATC motors are all 4-pole 800Hz metalworking spindles with ceramic bearings. They're awesome at chewing through aluminum.

can i use tap water?
You can, however you'll have to change it frequently. The key is to prevent any growth in the fluid and tap-water is rip with things growing. Window washer fluid would get you to 12-18mo and be better as a cheap alternative that lasts longer. Distilled water would let you get to 3-9mo. Tap, i'd change that every few months at a minimum.
@ thanks
This is cool but kinda gets rid of the A in ATC, granted its a shaepoko limitation.
Completely agree. MTC is still viable for certain folks who have either disabilities or needing a faster way to change their bits. After installing this onto my S5P, i turned to developing the Conversion Kit. Replacing the machine's electronics and installing a masso touch controller which enables full ATC functionality.
I ordered the 110V 80mm air cooled spindle from PwnCNC. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered. Unfortunately, Canada Post is on strike, so I'm not sure when I'll get it! In any event, will these cables fit in the drag chain? I have an elite MASSO Journeyman. Also, if the cables do fit, will EMI be an issue with all those cables in the drag chain?
Can I control your spindle speed using UGS G-code sender that Millright tailored. I do have 4'th axis capability I haven't used yet. Just started to look at the software you suggested.
@@greatwhitewing yes, our vfd can be controlled via Modbus or PWM. Most controllers offer PWM which is the way I control it on my Mega-V1
How well will these work if I only have GFCI Outlets In My Garage?? I purchased an S 5 Pro 4x4 a little over a year ago & have been wanting to upgrade to a spindle, but on Carbide 3D website it says (theirs) don’t work well in GFCI Outlets!! ** And yes I only mean the 65mm VFD 110V ** Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Unfortunately, you will need a non GFCI outlet to power your VFD. We recommend a 5-20R 20amp 110v plug using 12-gauge wire or larger on a dedicated circuit.
I got this file from thigiverse and bought all the parts needed but The brush rail is waaaay to skinny there is no way a mcmaster carr brush is going in there..what happened to the file ? from the looks of the video you are using the same brush I used but I think there must be a scaling problem with the file or something. I was able to get magnets installed after reaming the holes a bit with a drill but but no luck with that brush rail..also it looks way too shallow.its a pity because I really like the looks of this dust shoe
We realize that everyone's 3D printers are somewhat different and recommend, if your print is coming out too small, to scale up the file by 1 - 2%.
@@PwnCNC yeah im using the bambu x-1c pretty good printer...no worries the dust boot turned out not to be suitable for other reasons as well.ty
@@PwnCNC may I ask what is with your proprietary hose connections? that seems really strange doesn't seem to attach well either ,seems like you would get a better friction fit with just regular round hoses?
I dont mean to be picky or judgmental i see you do good work and contribute to the CNC community ..just thought I may give some food for thought..
@@lpa74 there were physical limitations with the CNC machine they were originally designed for. The design carried forward into other boot designs due to the amount of work put into all of our designs. We did switch to round adapters with our MagLock collection. We even have a squared circle to MagLock adapter.
I must have missed a step somewhere. I plug the 6-pin connector into the slot labeled "PWN" on the VFD box, and where does the other end go?
Did you ever figure this out? I am in the same spot. I feel like I'm missing something obvious!
@oseanmc Yeah, it's never mentioned anywhere, but if you have a Masso controller there's a receptacle on the bottom back side that you plug it in.
@@builtbybittle Doh! Yep, it was obvious! I think I have been staring at a spaghetti mess of wire to long today. Thanks for the info.
@@oseanmc I was in the same boat, glad I could help out!
Hi Daniel,Your video is great except you don't say what size screws you are using especially if your using the spacer for the air cooled spindle on the collar.Need Help.
Can this be controlled in software with an arduino uno using GRBL?
Absolutely. Our VFD can accept a control signal via PWM which is a 0-5v or 0-10v signal output by nearly every CNC controller we've come across...as well as Modbus or RS485 control which a small percentage of controllers we've played with offer. I've personally run our VFD from the Arduino based Mill Right Mega-V1 controller as well as CNC4Newbies Arduino controller canned the Demon controller without issue.

What spindle you using? The OneFinity says not included, but finding an ATC one...?
We're using a PwnCNC Spindle System here (pwncnc.com/products/spindle). We also have ATC Systems available that work great with the Onefinity machine. Key is to order your Onefinity with the 80mm mount instead of their 65mm mount. You can always shim the 80 down to 65mm to temporarily run a Makita palm router if necessary. We've worked closely with Onefinity to ensure our Spindle and ATC Systems are plug-n-play capable.
Does this work with Genmitsu 6050 Pro?
Would this preclude mounting a laser control module on the back of Masso?
Nope, we worked closely with JTech to ensure there was an updated laser module mount available: jtechphotonics.com/?product=onefinity-elite-pwncnc-inlets-panel-driver-mount

Hi can I buy the spindle kit the you are demonstrating?
Absolutely... pwncnc.com/products/spindle You can also upgrade from that to our ATC setup... pwncnc.com/products/atc
Can I use the camera mount you got on there with my Shapoko 5 pro with a 65mm vfd spindle install?
Hi I’m in Australia and required 240v power unit and would air cool good enough for the hobbyist?
Spindles and VFD's are not making our small CNC journeys a whole lot easier. Even Sienci Labs admits the complications they present after many months of hands on research. Super if you're financially retired and/or a full time hobbiest but if you're blowing and going in a money making wood shop who has time to stop time and become a VFD g-code guru?
This is exactly the reason why you should buy from a company like us. We ARE the experts at our products. You don't need to know a single thing about the VFD to get started with our fully plug-n-play system. We continue to research and enhance the knowledge our products so you don't have to. In this video we've unlocked a few programming settings which adds automatic forward triggering functionality to the VFD. Need help implementing it in our Spindle System you already own? Reach out to us at support@pwncnc.com and we'll gladly help you including jumping on a call to walk you through it. All newly sold Spindle and ATC Systems will come with these VFD settings already configured.
Im trying to figure out how to hide the watercool lines
There are several ways... but greatly depends on the CNC machine you own. If it's a Onefinity Elite, we don't currently offer a larger cable chain replacement option, however there are a few on the market iirr.
Got my cable in and replaced this weekend. Works great! Previously my RPM was 10%+/- what gSender showed and now it's at most 10RPM +/- Nice job getting it worked out. I'm fine connecting inside the controller with the phoenix connector but if you wanted to go with the crimped on rj11?
Why are new bolts needed for the brackets?
The brackets are 5mm thick and we wanted the bolts to extend into the enclosure the same distance. The stock bolts are 20mm so the new bolts are 25mm.
Thank you so much! Video was dead on got my cable already swapped out and followed the process and it is working perfectly. Cable is on the way back to you! Amazing service, support, and innovative products for sure.
New to CNC but y’all are on my radar. What’s the workflow for multiple cut files from something like Vectric or Fusion 360? Can you load them into a cuelist within the masso controller with tool change commands in between?
I used the Vectric Suite to create this. There are no multiple cut files, it's a single file with multiple toolpaths saved into one. It's not the only way it could be done, but it's the only automated way for it to be done. If I saved each toolpath as an individual file, at the conclusion of the tool path, I would have to load the next one. All it would do is take more time to finish. -Chris
I like the french cleat.
Those are way less confusing than the little French cleat bracket!! 😂 That little bracket causes a lot of head scratches and support ticket questions!!
