I was watching this series last December (2023) while my boyfriend was dying of cancer. I was his caregiver and couldn't leave him. It was Christmas time and I couldn't celebrate it. It was just a blur. Often he'd go out of consciousness during the show (a part of dying). I'd cry and cry at the death I was watching and dying I was experiencing. The last episode was the worst for me. I was crying and crying and turned around my boyfriend wasn't even conscious enough to talk to. I felt ao alone. That was a poignant episode but it was too much for me. The message : everyone goes. By the way he passed away January 18th 2024. I still have grief attacks. The show did help me accept death and remind me that death is a part of life.
I remember one episode starting with someone leaving a building while there's thunder and rain outside, then opens an umbrella and gets struck by lightning.
I'm too lazy but I always thought it would be a great idea to splice out all the opening death scenes. Even after 5 season many were total surprises. You would watch a few seconds and think "I know whats going to happen here" and then someone else would die totally unexpectedly. After many years I'm binging the series for maybe the 3rd or 4th time. Of course I binge Dexter about once every year since its release. Anyhoo, thanks for compiling these. My favorites are the frying pan to the head and the woman walking outside for a better cell signal and being decapitated by a block of ice.
I always thought about the elevator death... is the most creatively sadic death on the show but there aren't many scenes of that type in the show, just fun deaths or creative butterfly effects
THIS SHOW WAS GREAT LOVED IT. I FEEL YOU CAN RELATE BECAUSE WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE . PEOPLE DIE ALL KINDS OF WAYS THE LASE EPISODE WAS GENIUS !!!!!!!!!!! LAST SORRY .
the one with the girls at the sleepover confused me for awhile, did she die cause of the way she fell over? or maybe she had asthma and was like laughing too hard? i remember seeing this one on TV and thought the wife was going to throw the phone and like start stabbing her husband or something. same way when that lady just randomly milled her husband cause he was too boring or something like that.
I think the most heartbreaking ones was the young legless veteran having his sister help him commit suicide. The death of the young man with terminal cancer that Nate comforted during it was also hard to watch. Of course the death of Nate was, too. To me,the grossest was the baker in the mixer and the elevator one shown here.
The terminal cancer death was surreal!! I remember after thinking, OMG what the f**k did I just witness! The acting was soo good in that scene. The poor guy was absolutely petrified of passing while struggling to breathe properly. Nate didn't know what to do other than just be present with him as he slowly and agonisingly faded. Then it was over.
@johnofthesouth5425 Well said. This death gave me the same emotions like that of some of the expected deaths. For ex,the horror film starlet's cocaine overdose was not a shock, but the rapid sudden violence of it was still horrifying to watch like the terminally ill patient Nate sat with. Then there was Nate's death itself, which was not expected nor seen happening...he was just gone.
I love the one of the couple in the hot tub- she gets out to shower and prompts him to come with her, but he insists on staying in there a little longer. the camera pans in closer on him while he closes his eyes, and it's tense! until you hear the woman slip and fall distantly in the house, and she ends up being the death for that episode. best subversion ever
❤ I bought the entire box set after my husbabd died new years day 2012 it really helped me get over his death..just thr realities of all the deaths their families plus all the cbaracters in the family of the funeral home . the last episode i cried for hours when they shkwed their lives and dearhs. i love the whole seried ..
Reminds me of how absurdly stupid this show was. Nothing but a poor man's soap opera. What's even more ridiculous is the comments praising this foolishness.
My favorite is in the 5th season when a man runs over himself with his own car. My grandmother did this and survived. She died later of cancer, still “wearing” the tire tread across her belly.
I always hated #5. It was just so stupid. There’s no way a bucket truck would be working over an open lane or would be that low. Plus, the limo driver would never drive under such an obstacle.
It's sad, but at least brief for the baby. It was the parents drowning in guilt & grief that got me, especially in a time & society where one can reasonably expect all of their children to survive into adulthood.
Boone from Justified at 5:15.
If anyone ever gets curious enough, you can cross-reference these deaths and see many of these scenarios have happened

It's joker and hail E!s tw2
Oh man I forgot about the divorcée, the limo, and the cherry picker.

Todays car with all the goodies...not for me !
Im definitely the type to laugh at a funeral
All time favorite show
I always loved how the opening was so similar to House MD's opening except, of course, for the deaths.😊
2:12 My absolute favourite..................haaaaaaaahahahahaha!

You forgot the man struck by lightning.

God, I love watching that!!!! Fuck
That show had the best openings ever. The last episode was a masterpiece.
I just realize all these opening kills remind me of Final Destination deaths. Except for the office shooting one.
Amazed you didn’t include the SIDS baby.
These are awful.
The rapture😆😆😆😆😆

I miss smart tv
My favorite series ever. I remember one where someone died from a falling block of frozen urine from a jet flying over.
I like the one with the jogger and the mountain lion.
The frying pan one should have been #1. It was hilarious.
None of you said the industrial dough maker? Which has some very real consequences in Claire's life.
Why is Clairs death in the series finale not on the list. THAT was the most poignant and moving death of all the deaths on the series.
Stillborn was the toughest.

A mass shooting before we had them every single day. A definite foreshadow of amerikkka.

5:40 is that BOONE, Raylan's greatest rival in Justified?!?
❤ I bought the entire box set after my husbabd died new years day 2012 it really helped me get over his death..just thr realities of all the deaths their families plus all the cbaracters in the family of the funeral home . the last episode i cried for hours when they shkwed their lives and dearhs. i love the whole seried ..
4:00 was hilarious 🤣
The guy that got killed in the giant mixer always stood with me
i believe that’s like the second death in the show yeah that one fucked me up too
It actually happened

Why are you crying, kid?
Phil Leotardo from the sopranos should have been one 😂😂😂😂😂
how did the dough mixer not make this list
or hoyt’s death ??? that one was insane
worst television of the early 2000's . Overhyped bunch of evil crap.
How was it evil??
I like when they started making you guess who Death was coming for in these opening scenes.

Six Feet Under had the best final episode of any series EVER🥰‼️
The crib death one haunted me for years.....with the baby looking at the baby mobile and it faded away as he passed.
I had to pause and collect myself cause I was sobbing for a good 15 mins after watching that opener
It's sad, but at least brief for the baby. It was the parents drowning in guilt & grief that got me, especially in a time & society where one can reasonably expect all of their children to survive into adulthood.
**THEY F%CKING KILLED SANTA** ! ! ! ! !
Number 6 Death is so stupid. She breaks her neck just by falling from her bed?? That's just so implausible.
She had a brain aneurysm. They describe it in the show.
Where's the captioning?
I use to hurry at work to get home in time to start on tv. Absolutely love this show.
The frying pan murder was my number one.
