The National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC) is the largest voluntary organisation in Ireland involved in game hunting and conservation. The Association has 24,000 members in 965 Clubs spread throughout the country. The Association co-ordinates the activities of its members and clubs through a regional structure comprising 28 regions. The NARGC also represents the interests of all its members at both a national and international level.
Since its establishment in 1968, The NARGC has been to the forefront in leading challenges through the Courts against misuse and abuses of Ireland’s environmental and shooting legislation. In all cases to date, the Association has been successful.
Currently the Association’s members contribute some €22 million to the Irish economy annually. In addition, NARGC members spend almost €1 million per annum at club level on non-shooting conservation projects.

The NARGC with the support of Bord Na Mona and NPWS obtained a section of used bog through the Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme. The aim was to begin a project that would reseed the bog with heather. The NARGC organised Geoff Eyre to visit Ireland and give us the benefit of his expertise on bog / moorland restoration. Geoff referred to in the UK as the Heather Doctor, is an engineer, Moor ...

The NARGC Grey Partridge project in Dublin has been a huge success. Having begun with eight breeding pairs, we now have close to two hundred birds which are available to set up breeding stations around the country. The project, which includes a captive breeding programme, is managed by Derek O Brien, who is the head gamekeeper with overall responsibility. As the Dublin project has progressed, i...

keep going lads
Super stuff…… hunted with black labs my whole life in Ireland. I did come across a bunch of partridge two years in a row near Kilmoon cross in Meath about 10 years ago. Was great to see them. Guessing somebody released them, hope they are still there. I live in USA now (still hunting 😊) everyone pays for their license and permits but 100 % of the license money is ring-fenced and only spent on outdoor activities. Its a great system as the boat launches are kept in great condition with car park, state release insane numbers of pheasants and other game birds, all water courses are stocked each year with salmon, bait fish, trout, predator fish etc. basically everything gets topped up. Then theres national hunting / fishing day, youth courses etc, public land to hunt / fishing if your not in a club or dont have access to private land. Streets ahead of Ireland were its literally all left to individuals or clubs to do all the heavy lifting. You can even call the rangers / police if you get harassed…. They call it hunter harassment, the hunter is hunting legally, the law has your back not the other way around, and they will turn up quickly if you call them. License also pays for upkeep of outdoor ranges for practice or sighting in rifles and areas to use clays for shotguns. Different world!
mr fox will have partridge on the menu ...........
I spent my teens and early 20's in a part of Wicklow where there were plenty of grey partridges. I mentioned this to a business associate during the '90s who was involved in conservation of game birds. He went to the area in Wicklow, and saw for himself, told me I had led him to 'the Holy Grail' !
Obair iontach. comhghairdeas le gach duine a bhí pairteach. Is iontach iad a fheiceail ar ais faoin tuath.👍
Great to see
Habitat is a major concern every little corner of a bog is cleared for grass every bog is drained for grass as much as clubs need farmers sadly there mostly to blame not all but a majority
Great to see this and a great video but please dont jump on the hunting community for blame here. I am a member of club in Leinster and 3 years ago we embarked on a self sustaining Pheasant breeding program, from breeding stock, to eggs, incubators, raring of day olds to 20 weeks and finally release into the wild. We have released approximately 800 birds each year which is many times more than the majority of clubs in Ireland. 45% of our releases are Hens and we are already seeing the benefit of wild breeding pairs and wild chicks, 3 years in. Hunting clubs care greatly for our natural environment and conservation. We help our faming community as best we can and are extremely greatful for the use of their land. It is fantastic to see Partridge on the ground again, a beautiful bird.
Well said ! ☘👍
These Stunning little birds are a delight to rear, it would be magical to see them in great numbers , that we used to see in the old days .keep up the great work guys 👍
I live in Ontario Canada we had them in my location 35 years ago but never see them now. I need to help restock them here!!
Good stuff, game birds across the world have been over hunted!!!
No they Have Not, Habitat has been taken Away
the decline was mainly loss of habitat when modern large scale farming practices were introduced from mid 80s.. They have been off the open seasons order since the nineties. if it was hunting, then should we now not be tripping over them in every field we go into.
@@then.a.r.g.c479 Spot on ! ☘
