I've been on Bookstagram for 8 years. The first 3 years I wasn't even aware it was called that. My perspective is that I stuck true to why I was there. Find out about books, find like-minded individuals, self-expression, and to have fun. Numbers don't really matter to me. I read whatever I want to read. Whatever genre, format, or authors. I do understand seeing the same 10-20 popular books is massively boring. I love taking time off from it. I took a 2 week vacation with family last summer and brought two books. I was completely away from the internet. It felt good. I felt so peaceful. In my 8 years, I'm just now at 1k wonderful followers and find smaller accounts are more tight knit. Therefore have more engagement. It's the same people. Occasionally, a new person comes along. I like that. Another potential friend. Someone who might enjoy talking about books.

Is it hard to get those first few sales??

Great content, and thank you for the video. Love all the differing opinions about PangoBooks that I’ve seen. I’ve been a seller since January 2024 and have made a bit over $3000 on sold books (289 books sold at the time of this comment)… much of what you’ve said is true, particularly about the platform fees and about posting the transparency of the quality of your books. But I’ve found that you have to build trust with customers and keep engaged with them. I run a sale all week (15% off, no minimum; $5 purchases $40 or above and an addition $5 orders $80 or above) and deeper discounts (30-40% no minimum) weekends. that aligns with a personal cause of mine - I’m a musician that works on weekends, so I run discounts on weekends for folks to take their savings to see live music. I express that in my bio. Whether they do it or not is another thing, but, at the very least, it becomes something for my customer base to expect from me and my shop. I also list new books just about every day. All of that keeps folks involved and engaged. I’m also not a generalized seller, but more of a specialized seller (mostly metaphysical, art, and historical nonfiction). Focusing on that particular subject matter has really helped me. I agree about missing the recent post search option. That to me makes the hashtags almost irrelevant. I've been on bookstagram a long time and it definitely can burn you out. After a long break I came back and am just trying to make connections. If the same 10 or so people comment every day and I comment back that makes me happy getting to know them.

omg I can totally relate. I am in the process of deciding if I am going to quit bookstagram. I've been doing it for two years, posting everyday and im so burnt out.

I can't express how much I relate to this. I've been in bookstagram for 5 years and I'm burned out. I'm a mood reader and I'll read new releases only if I feel too, otherwise, I don't care and the algorithm hates me for it. I also hate the toxic positivity and as the previous comment said, all the smut. Nothing wrong with them, but when it's practically the only thing that shows up along with famous creators over and over in my FYP. I'm a time travel romance writer and I love posting time travel romance reads, but when seems like no one cares... it's exhausting. I've taken a long break now, so I won't be shocked if it feels like I'm starting anew. Sadly, I don't vibe with tiktok. RUclips don't really care about me :(

Too much smut content. Nothing wrong with smut, but I just got bored of the amount of smut scenarios that instagram posts. Most of those books that are promoted on instagram, have smut.They contain no plot (other than smut),and that kind of bores me. There's no more showcasing good books that the reviewer genuinely liked..., you know, like actually walking to a bookstore, picking up a book by judging the cover or title, reading it and reviewing it honestly. Like you mentioned, I'm tired of seeing Sarah.J.Maas's books being mentioned over and over again (t=they’re good books but.....).That's why I've left. Now, instead of Bookstagram, I just buy a random book, or a book recommend by my friends, read it and then post an honest review on goodreads, where negative and positive remarks are appreciated.

How important do you think condition is in people's buying decisions? Are they willing to pay more for a book in excellent condition vs good?

Thanks for all the helpful information. When I sold on Poshmark, I would schedule a pickup with my post office on the USPS website and I could set the orders on my porch and the post office would pickup for free. I never had to leave my home to ship off my orders.

I do a discount but not free shipping , but keep a good price on them

Not sure it’s worth it been on there like two months and zero sales

It’s a great service and it’s a great company which I used to get rid of my duds that the other companies don’t take when I scan my books, one thing for sure if an item is not sold within minutes of somebody placing it in their cart, it’s not gonna sell… this has been proven and again I’ve been Pango for one year now. So far, I’ve sold about 75 books or lots and counting …. it is very convenient where the listing will stay on their perpetually until it sells, they take their 20% and that’s it. They handle the shipping that is the matter of contention, when people see how much the shipping is that’s why you see something put into the cart and then not sold I tell people in my bio please take into account the total value of the book with the shipping and that I do not make a penny on the shipping.

As a customer I can say this isn't worth it. They don't accept PayPal and a LOT of people, myself included, do not pay directly with our cards for fear of theft(from hackers/the site not vendors) and PayPal helps prevent that. They would get massively more foot traffic if they'd allow PayPal. Would love to use it and keep an eye on it with the hopes they change but until then it's a hard pass

It’s 20% across the board - that’s fine -- the shipping labels - that’s great - like I said , Pango is new and it can take a long time for a sale … last week I had 4 sales … sometimes it takes a while -

Is it worth it? Is not really a question, it’s completely free. It takes about a minute to list most books that have the barcode on the back. The problem is that the high shipping that they charge a lot of people get discouraged after they put it in their cart… I have about five cart notifications per day and may be about three sales a week. It’s nice that Pot takes care of all the shipping so I don’t have to figure out or charge any of that and overall it is worth it because I throw all of my value books that the companies do not buy back from Me into this so it cannot hurt
