    What about with stretch knit fabrics? I have to put the tape on the fabric or it won't stay. I will say that I had better results putting the heat tape on the fabric perpendicular to the edges vs parallel to the edges.

      Hi @aw3271! I've done this with stretch fabrics. Does the fabric curl on the sides before pressing? I've taped the fabric to the bottom paper to keep the edges from curling. Then did the method in the video. Hope this helps!

    • @SewandPrintwithJulia
      @SewandPrintwithJulia Месяц назад

      Hi @IUpaulshircliff! Yes. Ghosting happens when the transfer sheet shifts on the substrate when opening the heat press. This may not happen with all substrates but I find this tip works for most all substrates where pro-spray or tacking down with heat tape doesn't do the trick. Or if pro-spray is not recommended due to the residue that can be left behind and mess up deign, colors, or fabric especially on light weight fabrics like the satin I use in my videos. This tip prevents that.

    Just came across your channel. I too do sublimation and print and sew many of my items. Now that Conde has gone out of business, have you found a place to get the sublimation linen? I am sad Conde closed up.

    • @SewandPrintwithJulia
      @SewandPrintwithJulia 2 месяца назад

      Hi Diana! I was also very sad that Conde shut down! I knew of many of Conde's suppliers overseas and decided on carrying many of the blanks that they offered and one of them was the linen. I don't expect to be up and running until another few months. I import a lot of sublimation products for my business already and so this would be an extension to that providing blanks for others. I'll let everyone know when that happens but I expect to be up and running offering sublimation blanks fully in the late summer. Please let know if you were looking for anything specific other than the linen and I'll see if I can get it!

    I'm using the Dollar Store Frames with polyester fabric. How much for each side? The frame is 5x7

    • @SewandPrintwithJulia
      @SewandPrintwithJulia 2 месяца назад

      Hi! I'm not familiar with the Dollar Store frames. I would have to know the thickness of the frame itself and how wide the wood part of each side is. This helps me find out how much fabric I'll need to wrap it around so that it meets at least 3/4 of the way on the backside of each frame piece so you have enough room to staple the canvas to the frame. I would cut out at least 2-3" extra around the frame. (So, that would be 9" x 11" if allowing only 2" extra and 10" x 12" if 3" extra.) Lean on cutting the fabric on the larger. You can always cut to size after doing so and even after attaching the canvas with the staples.

    hello is varnish still needed for canvases like that? i am trying to stay away from varnish my body reacts really bad to the smell i just want the canvases to be protected from scratch ...

    • @SewandPrintwithJulia
      @SewandPrintwithJulia 4 месяца назад

      Hi @zeromission8838! I would say that is optional. I have never varnished any of my sublimation canvas prints. The sublimation inks are dyed into the poly canvas using a heat press so the color shouldn't fade or scratch as sublimation inks are not paints like oil based acrylic or watercolor. I would use varnish on an actual painting that I do with brushes because those took lots of time and I would want to protect them as much as possible or if I was looking to give it a certain glossy sheen but I consider these sublimation prints on canvases "disposable." If ever they get ruined, I can always replace the canvas with a new one with the same image by printing it again and then using a heat press to press the image onto new poly canvas. Hope this answers your question!

      @SewandPrintwithJulia 5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Can you explain what is happening on your towels? Are you getting ghost images on your design? Or are you perhaps getting faded colors? (Which would be another issue.) The towel should stay on the heat press while the transfer should be sticking to the top platen not touching the towels when opening.

    • @dyte9180
      @dyte9180 5 месяцев назад

      @@SewandPrintwithJulia ghosting is on the towel and there’s some fading. The towel is staying the heat pad and the print is on the heat plate. I taped the towel down on the heat pad and that stopped the ghosting but there’s still fading, Temp is 370 and pressed for 100 seconds. I’ve tried lower temp and less time, which doesn’t help, the print is faded if I do lower heat and less time.

I, like you, would want to print stickers. Ive been printing on regular old copy paper and the prints are not coming out nice. It makes complete sense that the paper quality would help. • @SewandPrintwithJulia
      @SewandPrintwithJulia 9 месяцев назад

      @@stellarious7905 I can recommend the Joyeza brand for sticker paper. I usually buy the matte because I laminate my stickers with a glossy laminate. Just a tip, if you are doing stickers, it is always good practice to laminate if you are using an inkjet printer. It'll protect the stickers if they get wet and will make the color last a very long time! I am working on a video on how I make my stickers and I hope to have that up this week some time! @SewandPrintwithJulia 9 месяцев назад

      @digidrawdude Hi! I use the Joyeza brand of vinyl sticker paper in the matte finish. It comes in glossy and matte but I buy the matte because I laminate my sticker sheets after they are printed in a gloss laminate and before I kiss cut them on my Cameo. I do this so that the print doesn't fade over time and it also makes the stickers more durable if exposed to water. The sticker paper I mentioned is already water resistant but any inkjet ink is not so I prefer to laminate my stickers. I'm in the process of doing a video that goes over how I make my stickers so stay tuned for that! :)

      @@SewandPrintwithJulia I’m definitely your fan. Began watching for the tour of your sewing room and was hooked. While I primarily do Children’s Heirloom Sewing, I also do machine embroidery and some HTV. Your videos hit all of my favs. I learned some new techniques and new ways to incorporate ideas. Thank you for suggesting the metal Bodkin. I don’t have one in my tool arsenal, I’ve used a chop stick and safety pen. After reading its description, I realize it will be very helpful when making petite piping for infant and toddler garments. Added one to my Amazon Cart. Looking forward to watching more videos!

      Hi, if you have a epson you can buy a sublimation paper roll and print your design with the length you want, you don’t need to cut half and you press one side and turn around and press de other side.

      @letycuebas3596 The prices will most likely start at $27/month plus a small flat rate shipping fee for early adopters of the subscription box. :)

    You are brilliant!!! This worked. I modified it a little by just taping the transfer paper directly to the dover sheet. It was just a little faster and easier. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome tip!!!
