Art By Leigh Murphy

At long last I finally decided to make a channel that would offer more insight about my art and the stories, inspirations, and techniques that bring it into being. Here I would like to discuss art techniques, art philosophy, and ways I think that art can be a part of helping understand some of the issues people are facing these days. Not just as asuperficial anodyne for unhappiness or boredom, but to actively use it to express inner dialog in a therapeutic, philosophical way.
I found a way to rejuvenate old beat up aluminum rv camper hardware
While this krylon “chrome” shiny metallic paint looks nothing like chrome, it looks pretty close to the other aluminum door parts I restored awhile ago. This door sill was too beat up to polish like the door but several coats of the spray paint really made a close match.

My solution for a waterproof, rot proof floor for my camper
Просмотров 21День назад
I’m not sure how clear I was about it but you can find this pvc board in thicker sizes, I wasn’t able to find a local source for it on 4’x8’ sheets so I decided to put more supports under it so it didn’t flex much. #diy #camper #upgrade #solution
Finally able to disassemble the rear bumper in order to clean and repair it

All the messy Un-fun stuff that has to be done seems to take far longer to do and suck up so much energy. Progress is slow but happening. #camper #diy #repairing
Always check the spare tire no matter how good it looks

I would prefer to go to a local business instead of Amazon but sometimes it doesn’t make sense to do that. Two new trailer wheels and tires on Amazon are about $130-ish where just finding a local tire shop that would bother with these weeny little tires is difficult. The two shops I asked, charged $50-60 apiece for putting tires on the rims even if I brought them the tires. I think that’s the “...
All the filth and ick is finally gone!
Просмотров 192 месяца назад
Well despite the temperatures in the mid nineties and the humidity near saturation point, some progress has been made and a big milestone of NO more original ick and filth left in or on the camper! I can blame the miserable heat for the slow progress, but more it's that I've never done anything like this before. I scare myself when I think about what I have do to (even if I know it without read...
Uncovering the base frame of the pop up camper
Просмотров 343 месяца назад
Hopefully this will be the last view of the original nasty filth that came with this rolling wreck. Fortunately the frame itself had less rust than I’d expected but there’s still a lot to do before putting in the new floor. ALL the bolts and screws are corroded enough to be replaced but they are also so far gone that it’s taking a lot of effort to pull them out, even from the sheet metal sides....
Redesign the way I stow the rebuilt pop ups camper door
Просмотров 183 месяца назад
What with how the rebuilt camper door is (probably) heavier than the original-I have never seen the original but it is likely not as heavy- I decided to redo the way it’s stowed for travel. Seems like a good idea to redo it since pretty much all the original stuff is so flimsy anyway. #diy #redesign #camper
A better view of the rebuilt pop up roof and planning a better way to stow the door

I just had to crank it up and put the camper door in place to boost confidence in seeing some progress and less yuck. #diy #popupcamper #rebuild #creative #fixerupper #customized
Progress! Pop up camper reinstalled successfully!
Просмотров 304 месяца назад
What a milestone considering all of this is nothing I’ve done before and had to learn it all every step of the way. It sure helps to be able to see it start to come together and more or less turn out the way it’s supposed to. #diy #popupcamper #creative #redesign
I knew I’d have the perfect tool to straighten out the holes and dents in the camper skin
Просмотров 4414 месяца назад
I love the feeling of that eureka moment when I find that I have just the right thing to fix a problem without having to go spend more money at the hardware store. “For cheap “ was $25 plus a 10% discount at an antique mall for the anvil. Score. This camper looked almost like the previous owner used it for a target backstop from all the holes in it.
Just how nasty and rotten is the pop up camper door?

This is the evaluation of the state of the outer door for the camper and once again the only surprise is how it managed to stay on all this time. #diy #camper #rebuild #restoration
In the artist’s garden, yes you CAN grow bunch grapes in Florida!
Просмотров 1274 месяца назад
These are my heritage Black Spanish grape vines almost ready to pick. The ones in the video are grown up rooted cuttings off the original vine I planted. That’s pretty good proof that this variety is definitely resistant to Pierces Disease. Very aggressive vines that need a lot of space and a strong trellis. So much for being told that only scuppernongs will grow here. #garden #gardening #growf...
How to flip over a pop up camper roof singlehanded. It ain’t pretty or safe but it works
Просмотров 1815 месяцев назад
Yep it’s not the best safest choice to get the job done but it worked. How’s the old saying? Necessity is the mother of invention ( that is if you survive it) I put too much work and time into this to risk it crashing over. It’s not that heavy but it’s big enough for it to be unmanageable at odd angles.
The end is near!- of the camper roof rebuild anyway…
Просмотров 435 месяцев назад
Of course I forgot to talk about how when I was first disassembling the roof, I was surprised that the corners were empty voids under the plastic caps. Combine that with how the screws were stuck into the aluminum skin and foam-basically nothing- and it seemed a risky weakness in the design of the structure. So, that’s why I used extra high strength adhesive on the new replacement caps and not ...

That looks JUST LIKE the track anvil I have. So much so that I had to go outside and look just to make sure it was still there😀(it was) Best of luck with your camper restoration.
hey thanks! I'll bet you'll be surprised at how expensive some of them are. Great things to have.
😊new sub, i am thrilled go hVe found uour channel, this is beautiful, im in the midst of building mine.thank u
We redid my buddys camper roof similar to this. We found it easier to rip all that Styrofoam off on the bottom. Then replaced it. Lowes and home depot sell sheets of Styrofoam insulation. We bought a couple sheets of that and used liquid nail to glue it on. If youre going to hammer out all those dents, that might be the way to go. Just use a putty knife and scrap all that old Styrofoam off. Its a big project but, just take your time and do it right. Youll be glad you did in the end.
Thanks for the input, turnout your suggestion of the putty knife worked better than using acetone to melt it off.
I should add that the rocks are there as an extra hand to hold it all up level for the video, not as a permanent part of the idea.
Perfecto trabajo🎉🎉 Saludos desde Argentina 😊
Beautiful workwomanship!!
Nice! I do this with these cheep kits too. Very nice!

I LOVE these time lapse videos! Mesmerizing!
I like your gumption :)
thanks, I'm gonna need it!
Very cool. How did your art travel box in birch turn out?
Thanks! So far it's holding up to being packed full of tubes of acrylic paint,
You tell em girl!!!
Nice
Beautiful set up.
Come to Islam and success
I was listening to this in the background for the binding info but when I finally looked at the screen I was taken by the art. WOW-so beautiful! I love art on black sketch paper-just makes everything pop.
Thank you!
Did you use any special glue for the binding?
Nothing special, just plain white glue - aka polyvinyl acetate - like Aleene's or Elmers or whatever's on sale. Thanks for asking!
How do you make it?
I love your videos, but it's so very hard to hear you. Please consider getting a mic so I can subscribe. Thank you
That is amazing
Really sweet! Love the bug - nice journal - well done nice kit !!!
Ah very clever! Never would have thought of the mat board, thanks for the tour, your art is Beautiful!
Almost exactly what I was looking for. It was the how to make this rather than a tour. Picked up some ideas though
Very nice work!
Thanks. Very helpful. Beautiful painting of orchids, too
Looks like you "ironed out" your problems and completed the basket.
Ambidextrous. Respect.
Its beautiful masyaallah.
Hats off to you that’s a lovely looking case 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

What is your website again
Very nice!
Ahhhh, I see j, heron ink.... What's your favorite fountain pen? Did you ever take part in incowrimo? You have done nice inks. I see noodles, diamine, irozuku or however it's spelled lol...
Thanks! It's hard to pick a favorite pen. For drawing, it's a modern Parker Duofold but for flexible lines nothing beats this old eyedropper, not even a dip pen.
@@artbyleighmurphy7699 I bet. If you ever feel like you would like to pass it on to future generations please let me know before any other. My favorite is a 1930s dollar pen wearever. My goodness such a sweet nib. I'll be passing it on to my children one day. I'm looking for a wet noodle flex. I don't understand why modern non makers can't get it through their heads that flex isn't about how wide the line gets but how how easily the mob flexes. Something only one whom has experienced a vintage soft spring nib would lust for. Nice ink collection btw.
That's awesome!!! Love the chair so much I couldn't even wait to watch the rest of the video before commenting lol. Great for pen pals.
Very nice set up you've created. Very nice
I get that people call it Damascus steel, but it isn't. We still don't know how Damascus steel was made. We've come close to replicating it but we aren't there yet.
Well done! There are a number of bladesmiths near you. blacksmithing.org/
Look at getting what’s called torque hinges. They can be tightened to a particular torque so the lid won’t move from where you adjust it. Omg the rest of this box is giving me great ideas for mine. It is perfect. The journals/moleskin books are sweet! Well done !!
I love how you re-purposed the old leather. I can't wait to show my daughter your books you have made. My cousins prayer paper art paitings are on exhibit in Tennessee right now.
Thanks! Hope the exhibit goes well.
I agree the leather pen and brush organizer is a great idea!
I'm quite positive this level of attention to detail is not something learned over time but a trait your born with. Really nicely done. 👌
It's hard in today's world when your art is displayed in "public" with individuals that can't or won't be able to appreciate the work or time it takes. In a gallery or an exhibit where people are there for the art, can understand. Art can take a lifetime to perfect, trial and error, supplies can be the least expensive item in regards to time and effort it takes to create the details. It's sad that ppl can degrade something they don't understand.
Looks like u mastered it! I've been interested in pine straw baskets in the past and never actually started the project. I'm jealous of your creativity! Also I believe that shell sketch u were working on when I met you! It's amazing!
This is brilliant! And an inspiration to analyze the world around us from a different perspective.... possibly the "true" perspective. De-cluttering our mind in itself is an art most have yet to master. I know I haven't.
Just being aware of such things can be the biggest step.
Omg where did you get your journal with the dino skeleton on it?!
Glad you like it! I built it. The journal itself is recycled toned paper from Cachet. Then I covered it with marbled paper and the dino's themselves are jewelry findings from Hobby Lobby. Since traditional book hardware is expensive and hard to find, I improvise with stuff like that.
I love the mood in this, you caught the moment well. I subscribed.
What kind of sketchbook do you use?
Thanks for asking, sorry for the late reply. This one is a Cachet recycled toned paper hardback sketchbook.
Inaudible.
I can hear it perfectly.
Nice little place perfect to camp👍🏼👍🏼
Gorgeous
Thank you for this. It would be useful to hold the camera in place for an extended period at the end then move closer to individual areas and hold to allow study of details. Very nice 💛
Good point. That might be the best solution for a bigger painting that takes days to finish.
