Huntingtower Castle
Hungtingtower Castle was built by the powerful Ruthven family as two separate towers - and originally named after them.
The Ruthvens also commissioned the superb painted decoration that still survives on its walls and ceilings.
In the end, though, they lost everything thanks to their involvement in kidnap plots against King James VI.
The castle is in the care of Historic Environment Scotland and well worth a visit if you are in the Perth area of Scotland.

In Conversation with Elaine Grieve Lord Lieutenant of Orkney - Part 1
I was speaking to an Ancestor of Betty Corrigall visiting from New Zealand today at Dunrobin Castle who had just visited Orkney where he and his wife were seeking his family history. He was telling me of Betty’s story to how she came to own “The Loneliest Grave in the World” on Hoy Mr & Mrs Corrigall if you read this … I agree with your sentiment… for all those who rejected and let Betty down, they are long forgotten but she lives on. RIP Betty Corrigall 🤍
That’s lovely. And yes, her memory still lives on.
Thank you
Well done Liz.very nice pictures ,beautiful scenery and so clear.Ron G
Thank you.
Wow. That was beautiful and you have a lovely voice to listen to. Thank you.

Liz,could you get any more on your plate, that’s a wacking lot eh ,I don’t think I could get through that plate full 😅 Good pictures .Ron
I did enjoy it.
Liz if you go to Whitby you might find Dracula. Ask Janthia she is going there, when she goes to Scarborough.ahah . Ron G.
Really interesting . Thanks Liz
It is indeed.
Love the tower - huntingtower castle is so epically beautiful. Thank you so very much for all the information, so interesting to listen too! Oh wow, Maidens Leap! :o incredible story. Really impressive to see the plasterwork, that blew me away seeing that - thank you so much Liz for educating us in Scottish history!
Thank you for your kind comments. It is a truly beautiful place to visit.
As soon as I saw the title of your video my first thought was of the 1978 TV series *The* *Gorbal* *Diehards*

Thanks June. It’s interesting to research all these things.
Thank you for posting this nice video of Arran. It is tempting us for a visit when we go to Scotland next month
If you are thinking of going over it would be wise to book your ferry soon if going from Ardrossan to Brodick. Alternatively, you can enjoy a lovely drive down the Kintyre peninsula and go from Cleonaig to Lochranza. There is no booking on this ferry. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you go to Arran. It’s a great place.

I have a scar in the bar of my nose that was acquired during a battle in a tunnel of St Andrews Castle. (This may may not have occurred in a drink fuelled student rammy)
Now that made me laugh Alastair. Can’t imagine you being drunk.
This was really interesting, loved listening to the history of St Andrews, what a beautiful place. Wow!! You wouldn't want to be caught in that bottle dungeon, i really think they are fascinating, gruesome way to die, but so interesting! Thank you so much for sharing and showing us around!
You’re welcome. It is a lovely place to visit. Don’t think I’d fancy the bottle dungeon either.
Watching this makes me think about poverty in the world, who gave gold and power to only one family?, is it fair?
Thanks for watching. Poverty is a huge issue for the world and there are many causes requiring many solutions.
Silvia, God says it isn't fair. He also says that the rich will mostly not be in heaven. That the rich "...have received their rewards" here on earth. Very sobering indeed.
Great video thank you for sharing.
Thank you Tracey. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Henry, the smith of the Wynd. Not Henry Wynd. A swordsmith and armourer descended from Grigor of the Alpin lineage. After the battle he joined Clan Chattan, later, more specifically, Clan Macpherson, where his offspring maintained the surname Smith within the clan. Henry Smith was my ancestor.
Thank you so much for the additional information and for correcting the name. It is always great to hear such personal connections to the videos. I really appreciate your feedback. Hopefully some of the other videos on the channel may be of some interest to you also.
It was built by my ancestors! My grandma, Marjorie Moncur, recently passed away at age 96. Fascinating video.
That is truly amazing. I love it when there is a personal connection for people. Thanks for sharing.
I am also a Moncur. I have a picture of my father and his brothers there. Also have some stones from the place. Maybe I will visit one day.
Hopefully you can visit and have your own picture taken there.
Thanks Liz, that was a good video.
It’s a really interesting visit if you are at a loose end Alastair.
WOW, Inchture village is very beautiful and Christmasy 🎄🎄🎄🥳

Lovely!❤
It certainly was Robert.
I grew up in the shadow of this castle and yes it is indeed one of the best in scotland.. No bias at all of course lol
A bit like myself Barry. Not quite in the shadow but as a Stirling lass I am a bit biased as well.

😂😂 absolutely. Thanks for watching and commenting. Feel free to subscribe if you haven’t already.
Hi liz, I have been fortunate to have visited stirling castle twice , all the way from tasmania . I think it is the most pivital castle in scotland as you would know, it is the gateway to the highlands with bannockburn just down the road not to mention stirling bridge.
It certainly is an amazing place and has been pivotal for centuries. The restorations have been soo well done and create a great atmosphere when visiting.
Very interesting but would have been better without the music..
I’m glad you found the video interesting. Never quite sure re the music. Some people like it and others don’t. I think I may have not quite got the balance right with this one. Thanks for your feedback. It’s appreciated.
Brilliant video Liz.
Thanks. I enjoyed putting this one together.
Injoy your video history Ron Kay
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Excellent - always interested in any information about Moncur family
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing.
Hi Liz How much is the ferry to Orkney?
It depends on the size and type of your vehicle. I usually travel by Pentland ferries from Gills Bay to St Margaret’s Hope. You can also travel by Stenna from Scrabster to Stromness. Check out their websites for exact prices. As it’s shorter you will probably find Pentland from Gills Bay the cheapest.
@@lizkayoutandabout Thank you
You’re welcome Graham. Enjoy.
Lovely scenery on the beautiful West coast. Hope all is well with you, Liz. Best wishes from Orkney!
Thank you Joy. All well here. The scenery is lovely on the west. Hope you are all singing back at the East Mainland.
Brilliant as usual Liz.
Thank you.
That brought back so many memories of skiing at The Lecht and Glenshee and also when we use to take the caravan up to Braemar. Loved watching it Liz
I was sure you would have been skiing up there.
Hi Liz Have they got hight barriers up Can I get my camper in I don't know if you remember me from Cruden Bay I was the one with the Red camper
Hi Graham. Of course I remember you. To enter the park up you must book online. It costs £15 per night maximum stay two nights. I have put the link in the video description. Once you have booked, the barrier recognises your number plate and lifts up.
👍
Nice one. From checking it out on Google maps, I didn’t think the public were allowed into the Rossie estate. Might have to take the dog there sometime.
Walkers are welcome as long as you respect the estate and follow the country code.
Thanks Liz .I surely will .I will do some at a time. Guess what.?i forgot the string ,but I am not in a hurry for it. Also good results from PRI. So I am chuffed AhAh Cheers Ron ..
