My gf has the v8 version of this car and we try to find tunnels just to hear the music that it makes 😂. We wish we had the v10 version because it’s sounds better yet the v8 is more balanced.

I love this model of the S class. 1973 in Malta the hire car broke down , they put us in the bosses S class w116 280se and drove us to their other depot to collect another rental car . The journey in this S class I will always remember. The feeling of strength and the turbine smooth engine. Great stuff

Der 280 SE hat die beste Literleistung und die kleinen V8 Modelle und auch der 6.9er haben nur eine 3gang Automatic (Ausnahme 350 SE mit Schaltgetriebe), beim 500 SE sah es mit 4 Gänge schon viel besser aus, allerdings schon mit viel Plastik statt Chrom. Wenn die W116 nur 8 Zylinder haben sollten, dann müßten ja die Strich8 oder W114 und W123 als Benziner auch min. 6 Zylinder haben. Ich persönlich schätze einen guten Reihensechszylinder genauso wie einen bulligen V8. Der W116 ist auf jeden Fall noch das Bild eines massiven Mercedes welcher auf der ganzen Welt ein Begriff ist !
Der 2.8 Einspritzer mit 4 Gang Automatik oder 5 Gang Schaltgetriebe ist in der SUMME die beste Variante.

Der M 110 Motor mit 185 PS war in den 70er Jahren stets ein zuverlässiges Triebwerk, bei moderaten Verbrauchswerten für W116, 107, /8. Bei diesem Sportmotor wird das Ventilspiel noch von Hand eingestellt ( alle10.000 km).
Ich mag besonders die schönen Velours Sitze.

Me too, I think mine was a 1976 and I remember the registration number, BUC343T, lovely car and I didn't want to sell it but couldn't afford the upkeep, very smooth drive, best car I've ever had too
Der 280er Doppelnockenwellenmotor war schon damals ein Säufer, im Schnitt 18 Liter auf 100 km, aber dafür laufruhig und bei entsprechender Pflege durchaus langlebig. Die meisten Exemplare sind dem Rost zum Opfer gefallen, mit dem 126er wurde es besser. Wenn 116er, dann sollte es schon ein Achtzylinder sein.
Fahre einen 350SE. Zwar der kleinste, dennoch ein Achtzylinder, der m.E. etwas besser zur S-Klasse passt als ein 6-Zylinder.
@@kapitaen1966 Allerdings. Im W116 sind die Doppelnockenweller als Vergaser, oder Einspritzer nur für Leute etwas, die unbedingt eben eine S-Klasse fahren wollten. Sowohl im W116, als auch im W126 sond die "kleinen" Achtzylinder 350 bzw 420 eindeutig die bessere Wahl.
@@sokrates3900 Obwohl die 350er Motoren von Anfang an nicht unumstritten waren, die Leistung zum 280SE bzw. 450SE sind marginal und er soll angeblich nicht ganz rund laufen, bin ich persönlich sehr zufrieden. Bei einem Oldtimer kommt es primär weniger auf Verbrauch und Höchstgeschwindigkeit an. Die ´450er liegen preislich viel höher ohne einen immensen Unterschied zu besitzen. Aber zur S-Klasse gehören acht Zylinder, meine auch auch. Sonst würde natürlich ein 6-Zylinder reichen, der Vergaser klingt gar nicht so übel.
@@kapitaen1966 Der 280er Vergaser mit 156 PS ist ein bisschen schwach auf der Brust und braucht penible Pflege bei der Vergasereinstellung. Besser ist da der 280er Einspritzer mit 185 PS, ausreichend Leistung und wenn man den Motor nicht andauernd forderte, auch recht langlebig. Gesoffen haben beide, 18-22 Liter auf 100 Kilometer, deswegen war man da mit den Achtzylindern besser bedient, zum einen im Verbrauch waren sie im Vergleich zu den Sechszylindern, kaum höher, zum andern waren sie durch den besseren Durchzug drehzahlschonender zu fahren. Ein Freund fährt als daily einen W126 als 500er mit mittlerweile fast 700.000 km auf der Uhr, geht nicht kaputt. Warum? Ganz simpel, der braucht Drehzahlen von max 3000 - 3500 U/min, das schüttelt der Achtzylinder locker aus dem Ärmel.
Mag wohl stimmen, aber der Sound ist etwas besser, als vom Einspritzer. Dennoch bevorzuge ich den Sound meines, wenn auch kleinsten 8 Zylinders. @@sokrates3900
