I got akathisia in the most messed up way possible, I was in the hospital and I was not feeling well and apparently they overdoes me on a medication so I was feeling werid and I ended up feeling suicidal so they ended up taking me to the mental health side of the hospital tell me why they injected me by force bezos 6mg then my sister came and they called them saying I was acting crazy no I wasn't , my mom demanded them to let me go they did they acted stupid and the the next day my body went full akathisia and withdrawal from them injecting me bezos and letting me go home they knew what they were doing , it was like if they left me cold turkey I spent 2 months in pain my family didn't know what I had I ended up researching found out it was akathisia I went to mental hospital they called me a liar and put me on more drugs basically am happy now drug free it was a long healing journey and if i can warn people to not trust hospitals they are pay there to just do what they have to do they don't care about you and the health care systems suck

That made me feel me so sad for you at the end 😢 x

I can sit still but when i do the inner tenision feeling goes into overdrive.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Do you ever have problems with speech during your episodes? When I get mine I can’t speak and stutter a lot.

I’m have akastisia now as we watch this video it is horrible I just want it to go away up pacing back and forth as I watch this

So my neurologists suspects my movement problem is due to brain damage near the motor cortex. But it started long before i had that damage. In talking to a neural feedback specialist he started asking me questions about the feeling and what medication im on. He said my SSRI could be responsible for it, causing akathisia. Its this terrible feeling that builds up if i dont move my limbs, and results in large twitches if i force myself to sit still. Its 'agitation' feeling is lessened with movement. The neuro doc gave me Keppra and that seems to help some (makes it slightly more tolerable). Happens mostly at night. Its so uncomfortable that is causes a certain level of pain along with great discomfort. Sometimes making it impossible to sleep. No dr. had mentioned this to me until the neural feedback dr did. Asking my counselor about it today at my apt. It started over a decade ago when i started the SSRI, and has since gotten worse and more frequent. The keppra does lessened it to a degree that im not going mad over it anymore. But would rather not have to take a medication to counteract a feeling caused by another medication. Its a truly maddening feeling. As i have an energy disorder this makes it all that much harder as the movements burn up what little energy i have. Does anyone know if there is an SSRI less likely to cause akathisia? The zoloft I take works well so im hesitant to change it, but if it means stopping these movements it will be worth it. Im frankly shocked that no other dr mentioned this to me as a possibility as Ive complained about this for many years. I think the neurologist is wrong about it being related to the brain damage as it begun nearly a decade before they saw any damage (about the same time i started the SSRI). Not a single dr mentioned this possibility until last week. Very glad the keppra helps a little at least.

I hope you are doing well are you still taking the medication I had to start mine I’d rather be bipolar then deal with it all day long but I am still dealing with akathisia but it’s getting better I do have windows and I was able to swim again for the first time in four years yesterday. The one that triggered the most akathisia for me was Latuda and Zyprexa but I had tried all of the anti-psychotics and the second generation and every damn one of them sucks easier just to control it with diet and exercise I pray you are healing

Do you realize you are almost assuredly making the akathisia chronic if you don’t discontinue the offending medication? You can get horrific inner quaking and work it into a monster. Akathisia is like tinnitus. You don’t continue taking anything that causes tinnitus or else you risk making it permanent. I have chronic akathisia, dystonia, and tongue thrusting/locking (TD), tinnitus, anhedonia, and 70+ other symptoms from bringing on a benzodiazepine trying to treat it.

I developed akathisia from Vraylar and was taking propranolol for it. It only helped to a degree and I started having major anxiety spells at work. I got a second opinion because the doc didn’t want to get me off of Vraylar, and the new one said that the side effects were outweighing the benefits. I’m off Vraylar now and I’m feeling soooooo much better. Of course, I haven’t experienced 14 med changes. I’m just glad to be off of that pill because it was messing me up

Prayers I deal with this every day I was miss diagnosed I was being bipolar when I had akathisia and they put me on all the Antipsychotics and it’s made it 1 million times worse. I have the inner akathisia do you have inner it makes you feel like your skeleton inside is shaking out of your body kind of Leica a glitch looks on the TV screen it’s a constant glitch in your body. Lots of medication can cause akathisia unfortunately I pray you get well warrior stay strong hugs

I’ve had chronic akathisia nearly 2 years and not even from an antipsychotic. I know people 4, 7, even 10 yrs off medications and still suffering. You discontinue the offending medications. You do NOT stay on a medication that gives you akathisia just like you do not stay on a medication that gives you tinnitus. The symptoms do not “die down”. At best, they will mask & aggravate the akathisia and allow it to smolder so that when you pull the antipsychotic away, it’s even worse. Maybe even turn it into the chronic monster that has ended 8 of my friends lives.

Wanted to ask about your akathesia, was wondering how its going? Are you still taking the aripiprazol?
