I was watching another person doing a skit of buying your first tuba and he watched this video in the background I found it!!😂
I watched this because I’m now a senior and I wanted to see how far I have come. I can get a pedal Ab on my tuba and can go up to a high D above the staff. To anybody starting out I wish y’all the best of luck. I’ve made most of my best friends throughout school by participating in band. I know it might be hard at times but band helps socially and it teaches you important skills like time management and discipline for school. Band kids are the best behaved kids in the school for a reason. Just keep swimming through the ocean of band and always remember to just have fun.
What is this mess with fingerings? You learn fingerings for Eb tuba, you change for Bb tuba and NEED TO LEARN AGAIN a different fingering? Who is the father of this mess? Why don't you just transpose a sheet music to a suitable key and learn ONE fingering FOR ALL brass instruments??? 0 = C, 13 = D, 12 = E, 1 = F etc... Same system with tone, semitone, 1.5 tone... WHY everybody does that nonsense? SERIOUSLY! Can somebody PROPERLY explain? Just look at the score! So many different keys for different instruments, NO PROBLEM with that! And think about kids how they struggle with this stupid system...
I'm in grade 8 concert band and I play euphonium and my band teacher recently stole a sousaphone from his old school and I am now learning it. I can tell you it is alot lower...
Hi, can you send me the ring tones for the song the last of the Mohicans???? Please
I really liked the side view trombone lesson do you have more 😁
Very cool. Can we get multiphonics next?
Wow❤❤❤
The tuba isn't very loud but it is the biggest brass instrument which it is incredible
If you fill it up with enough air it overpowers an entire ensemble
Thank you so much. Learned it in under 30 minutes.
Keep ur air steady
Stop ur speach. And read ur music. Net waist

Can we contact Allison today? This seems to be the only one of her vids with comments still enabled. My last chance. Seems to be no other avenues... I need a video on what to do after 'the first five notes' on the trumpet. Allison's vid was the only one I've seen that got me going well on the first five notes. It was the only one that clearly showed she was blowing down across the lower lip. Perhaps that was the big thing. I don't know. But then playing the notes along with her worked well, too. It looks like Allison stopped about 5 years ago. Hopefully this plaintive little message will get out there to someone who knows what's doing and hopefully we can get more help from Allison ?
I am totally blind, I have never really touched a tuba before, so can you try to explain to me how are you changed to those two notes again?
Actually c is 1and 3 or just 4
Who designed that stupid system? C = 0, you just transpose the sheet music in your computer and play standard fingering for ALL horns... So many keys in score for different instruments and NO PROBLEM... And then suddenly you have the same design for every horn, but different fingerings for everyone... What a stupid mess...
Thank you I’m a new tuba player
She is good
Valves 1n3 for a C, must be a Bb tuba?
The way that those notes look, they look different than when I played the tuba in high school.
My respect ✊
Thank you too much @Allison Jensen
I WAS DOING THIS LAST NIGHT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY GRANDPA WOKE UP AND STARTED YELLING: HELP, HELP THE TITANIC IS SINKING!!!!!
I think this is fine for beginning instruction. If you're just starting out on an instrument, you need to learn the basics on how you play the notes before you can develop your ear for what is sharp and flat. Once you develop your ear, you can adjust embouchure and tuning slides to develop your sound.
U were playing half notes not full but the f u played full
Allison, on the Sousaphone it's the same notes and the same fingering ?
Yes. Assuming you don't have an E flat Sousaphone.
I have to learn tuba in about 4 hours to play at a pep band game News flash- I played tuba plus 2 other instruments. Bass clarinet and bari sax
Those 3 instruments get the same part lol
@@AOSMAKAKMS Essentially. My BD sucked ass. He would tell me grab tuba I would (and I'm not the biggest person ever so the tuba is about as big as me) Then he would tell me no grab bass, ok, then it's like no grab bari. I have to do it again Tuesday 😵.
@@Person-lx1qu what’s the point, your grabbing the Woodwind and brass counterpart
@@AOSMAKAKMS I have no idea. They all basically have the same part for the mostly.
I am blind and I’ve never touched a tuba before, can you tell me exactly how you did what you did?
3/4 tuba forever
real men play 4/4 size
Why are most beginning tubists taught on the BBb when it seems like most professionals prefer C tubas?
Bb is more common than c, though Eb is the most common for brassband/marching.
BBb is easier to teach in a band class I wish I learned on a CC horn now that I am in high school I need to start thinking about switching
@@simen9155 Eb? Are you in the UK, Simen? It seems like the Eb is way more common in marching and bands in the UK, whereas here in the States, I never see anyone playing the Eb... it's far more common, at least from my perspective, to see BBb in anything less than Professional levels, and Cb from that point up.
@Aardvark892 I am in Norway. Eb is most used here because it's easy to switch from Euph in treble cleff to Eb.
Go to the low F first and third Fingering
Thank you it really helped
There are several suggestions I’d like to (respectfully, I hope) offer to improve the usefulness of this tutorial: show a closer views of your mouth and right hand - new players MUST learn what a good embouchure looks like from the front and the side; acquiring and maintaining good hand position is essential, particularly for faster passages of music; some of the spoken instructions are not very clear - perhaps use some kind of software to point at the note you’re playing; your F is quite badly out of tune, which may be a fault with the instrument, but a new player needs to hear the notes well in tune to be able to internalise the pitch. It’s very commendable to provide a tutorial for such an under-represented instrument (which I myself enjoy playing); please don’t take offence at my suggestions; they’re meant in a spirit of musicianship. Thank you.
My music teachers never looked that good😊

I don't understand. You're trying to make a tutorial without a good aperture, and you're out of tune. You can hear the waves and the unsteadiness. Other than that, it's a good video.
Beginners don’t need to be worried about tuning they need to focus on how to make good sounds and keep a steady airstream
its a tuba. its pretty hard to get a consistant note when you have to blow in it with a wider mouthpiece. tubas usually only sound consistant in ensembles. unless you're like an expert or something, its normal for tuba players to wobble the notes a little. plus, beginners shouldn't have to worry about playing a perfect consistant note anyways
I can hit these notes but it's a completely different valve combination. I think your tuba goes deeper than mine. I don't have that large tube that doubles up next to the highest large tube as you look at it. but it's a 3 valve and i thought it was a 3/4. Perhaps it's the next higher tuba up in the range.
Your tuba might just be tuned different she has a b flat tuba you might have a c flat tuba
@@aidanlinginfelter6496 you can’t get a c flat tuba, it’s a c tuba
@@alhill7026 shut up you are addicted to ASMR
My 3 valve doesn't sount at all like that open valve. :( what tuba do i have?
You must have a B flat Tuba with the valves on top are you new to the tuba cause I am I’m not new to band I played the Baritone then Euphonium now I’m a Tuba
do you happen to know the model?
Nice Tuba!
I have baritone
I played Baritone in 6th grade but I’m a Tuba in 8th grade are you gonna stay the Baritone
Maam, can you please make a video of soausaphone and tuba and their fingerings from lowest note to higher ? Thank you ♥️🙏🏼
sousa and concert tuba have the same fingerings (assuming the key from the concert horn is the same as the sousa's key). So if you have a Bb concert horn, your first 5 would go 0 13 12 1 0. With a Bb sousa it's the exact same thing, so it would go like 0 13 12 1 0. Hope this helps!
@@athenalol thats... wrong. There's different types of tubas, sousas, and contra bases. I play on a BBb tuba, which tends to be the standard.
@@realdjwoomyhm yes you're correct. In this case I was referring to only 3-4 valved horns in the same key. But yeah you're right.
@@realdjwoomy ty so much bro!
@@realdjwoomy I play a BBB tuba too in school band
Is the tuba and saousaphone have the same fingerings maam ?
They do
My fav instrument is saousaphone
Trumpet, tuba, sousaphone, everything in key Bb same valves
Luckily i didn’t get kicked out of euphonium

Thanks for this video :)
Instructions unclear, I have a trumpet
That’s why
your first 5 notes would be C D E F G (0, 13 12, 1, 0)
@@geuxishere and for trumpet music would be treble clef
Nice vibrato
What vibrato?
how do you hit a low b flat on a tuba for four measures b-cuz that is what i have to do ps i am new here
I'm a bit late, but basically you can't do anything special to do long tones on a Bb without circular breathing . You just have to make your lungs accustomed to breathing into the horn and how much air it takes. Hope this helps.
